Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyWed Nov 24, 2010 4:09 am

"List the ways of the nine dragons." my master demands.

Standing before me he's a good two heads shorter than I am. My body is clad in a simple gi and pants. The belt tied around my black garb is white, though none of the other trainees have the same black garb. There are black belts among us but only those that have mastered a select number of styles are given their black gi.

"Yes master. Desert Wind, Devoted Spirit, Diamond Mind, Iron Heart, Setting Sun, Shadow Hand, Stone Dragon, Tiger Claw, and White Raven." I said, smiling as I waited patiently for him to speak again.

"Very good. And of these techniques what have you mastered so far?" he asked me.

"Master, I have mastered nothing, though I have worked hard to advance my knowledge of the Devoted Spirit, Diamond Mind, Iron Heart, and have begun on the style of Shadow Hand." I responded.

"Very good. An answer very few pupils would respond with, but you have much to learn if you believe that I will fall for it. Telling me what I want to hear will not get you anything. Now, hit me."

Not one to hesitate, My body shifts, quickly my balance moving to one heel as I spin backwards, my other leg snapping out. But by the time my foot is where his head was, he's moved. He'd backed up much faster than I could strike him! But he'd also been ready to attack, and I'd never expected to actually HIT him. My body moved quickly through the motions, my body constantly shifting through the styles I'd been working on.

But this was how the master trained people. He made them fight him and then struck at their vulnerable points after letting them think they were doing well.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyWed Nov 24, 2010 4:40 am

My body moved as quickly as I could, my eyes narrowing before he dropped into a sweep kick. I was completely unprepared for that. My eyes went wide when I realized what was going on but by then I was parallel with the ground. With a grunt I hit the ground, before I rolled away.

Coming to my feet again I switched up my combat style. My legs were constantly moving as my hands moved into position. I circled my master, quickly my eyes locked on him. But try as I might he wouldn't show me his back. He knew perfectly well that if I got behind him he'd never be able to turn to face me. That was how Ba Gua, or as we called it the Setting Sun, worked. But as he had taught me, I could switch styles as quickly as he could. The only problem was identifying them as quickly as he could!

Stepping forward, my body kicks off the ground. Twisting my form in the air, my leg comes around in a spinning axe kick. With my heel coming down where his head was I smirked. As he stepped back I watched him, my eyes narrowing as my vision went red. I watched him stare at me for an instant. When I hit the ground he started to move.

Stepping forward he jabbed out toward me quickly, but with the world moving slowly around me, my body moved back and to the side. I turned, the class gasping as I dodged my master's knife hand strike. It had been aimed at my throat, and it seemed he was ready to end the fight. As soon as he realized he missed, his hand turned, arcing around toward me, with his fingers still extended like a knife.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyWed Nov 24, 2010 5:17 am

I watched his hand move toward me in a side swiping attack. Leaning back quickly I balanced myself low to the ground before dropping completely. As I rolled backwards to my feet I smirked. His leg had attempted to knock my legs out from under me. And yet there I was, smirking the whole time, my vision red shifted.

The others seemed to be in awe of the fight, but the master, was angry, or so he seemed. He dropped his fighting stance watching me. I couldn't help but wonder what it was he wanted me to do, but he didn't appear to be in a fighting mood. Thinking of my mother I sigh, letting everything go as I lowered my arms, dropping my stance before I bowed to my master.

"Kneel Leon. You will wait. Everyone else is dismissed." he said.

I waited and knelt, waiting patiently for him to speak. My eyes close as I wait, my breathing slow and steady. I can hear him pacing in front of me, and I can't help but worry that he's ashamed of me for doing something. Was I not fighting fairly.

"When did you learn Leon? When did you learn of your technique?" he asked me.

My eyes opened and I was surprised he was kneeling in front of me. He was treating me as an equal, which meant he was very serious about this. Oh great, just what I needed.

"I discovered it by accident master. One of my classmates decided he wanted to push me around. I got mad and rather than get sloppy, the world slowed down." I explain, staring at the floor, unable to meet his gaze.

"It's been a long time since I felt an aura like that. It was almost demonic Leon. I don't want you using that, it's a dangerous technique. You could attract the wrong kind of attention. I know you, you're a good boy, but not everyone would be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt if they first met you in that state." he instructed.

"I see. You've been reading my blog?" I asked

"Yes. And I know that there are things out there that you're not ready to face. You have a long way to go to become strong enough to face the challenges of the world. But you can make it if you work at it."

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyWed Nov 24, 2010 5:25 am

"Are you forbidding me to use it?" I asked, looking up at him, finally meeting his eyes.

"Not by a long shot. I am simply telling you to be careful around others. You're free to use it against me, it makes things more interesting. I haven't had a fight like that in a while. It'll be fun. However, as your master and friend, I must warn you that the technique is dangerous. It consumes your soul as you use it. It hurt at first didn't it?" he asked me.

"No. It felt... almost natural. It wasn't until after I got back and began trying to learn to use it at will, that I found myself straining to keep it up." I explain.

"You are calling on dark forces my pupil. You show promise, and I'm happy to train you. But you must understand you are not as safe as you want. You've seen the things out there that others have not."

"That's true master, but by seeing those things does that not elevate me above others? Does it not make me wiser?"

"Not by a long shot. There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is simply understanding something. Where as wisdom is knowing what to do with that knowledge. How you react to it shows your wisdom. You aren't inciting riots, or making people think you're crazy beyond what you've put in your blog."

"Well then, why don't we continue sparing?"

His smile was all I needed. We rose and bowed before I again let the 'demonic' aura take over, my eyes glowing red as I stood there, in a fighting stance. He was smiling almost as if he approved of me using this to spar with him. It elevated me above the others further, physically, however I knew him too well to believe it put me on an even level with him.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyWed Nov 24, 2010 5:57 am

I moved in quickly, my fist driving out toward his face before I spun around, my left leg snapping out in a quick kick aimed for his face. He ducked under my leg and came back at me with a viper-like strike toward my throat, almost like he were trying to take me down from the beginning. But still he moved in slow motion.

My first instincts were to back up, but I had no doubt that he wanted me to do that. Instead I turned my body to the side, before dropping low. My leg stretches out in front of me before sweeping around toward him. But he was more than ready for it. He jumped, kicking off the ground as I came around to knock him off. But seeing it in slow motion I shifted my weight to my hand, my other leg kicking his own out from under him.

Yet still he was ready! He hit the ground on his back, rolling, his knees pulled to his chest! I didn't think that an old man could move like that! The old man was flexible, fast, and strong. No wonder chicks dug him. But I couldn't let up on him, so instead of backing off I moved forward with a thrust kick aimed for his chest.

But when I didn't make contact my eyes narrowed. His hand had caught my ankle and I felt my strength vanish when he turned, throwing me toward the punching bag across the room! I brought it down on top of myself when I hit it, grunting hard as I hit the ground. Getting up slowly I growled and glared up at him.

"DUDE, WHAT THE HELL!?" I demanded, pissed off at her.

"I don't recall setting rules." the old man said, simply.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyTue Dec 07, 2010 11:28 am

"TIGER CLIMBING MOUNTAIN!" my opponent shouted.

I waited, in my favorite stance. My right arm was raised up, with my fist at eye level, while my left arm was extended out on front of me. I watched them come toward me, kicking off the ground. The blackbelt around his waist signified his rank, and I couldn't help but grin. He was supposed to be superior to myself in the dojo, but as I watched him move I couldn't help but count the problems with him.

I watched him push off the ground, his body spinning in mid air. His leg snapped out toward me in a spinning aerial kick. Stepping forward my body ducked under his blow as it turned. My left hand came in, tucking at my waist as my right hand shot out, catching him in the inner thigh. He cried out as he came down hard, before I rose from my ducked position.

I turned to my master and bowed, my eyes closing as I mentally smiled.

"Interesting enough Leon." he said. "I'll have to send you up against someone more worthy. Shall I step in and spar with you?"

I rose and smiled at him bowing my head gently before I began to speak. "Master, I would never dare to go against you. However, if you want to spar I will not hesitate to do battle with you."

"That will be fun. But for now let's see how long it takes you to get tired." my bearded sensei said.

I watched the other group of blackbelts step forward, one of them coming toward me quickly. I slid back, my body narrowly slipping past his kick. I wasn't expecting an attack so quickly at least outside of my red shift. My eyes narrowed as I watched him coming toward me. Breathing slowly I waited, fighting defensively. Every time he struck out at me I would block or deflect as quickly as possible. I wasn't about to go down because of any ego stroking. But if I couldn't get faster or stronger on my own without the power of my lineage then I would never be able to really get stronger.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyTue Dec 07, 2010 2:02 pm

My body slid back quickly, my feet slipping along the padded floor. I breathed slowly as I went. I watched his fist come in and shifted my stance. I slid out of the Northern Shaolin stance and moved quickly into Ba Gua, my arms moving in a quick, tight circle to deflect his jab. It was more than effective, his arm being thrashed by my own before I rolled against him. My back slid along his as I came around, my body dropping in a quick sweep kick from the front. He grunted as I took his ankles out from under him, his body going into the air before I came up with a swift hook to his gut. I put everything I had behind this blow, throwing him to the ground before turning to face the other blackbelts that were waiting to take me on.

It was a regular 'Round Robin' pitting the winner of one fight against the next person in line. Time and again I was going to have to face off against the blackbelts until they couldn't fight anymore or until I got too tired to keep going. These guys were going to be a big pain in my ass if I wasn't careful. But I could still call on my other side, and then work them over. But I had to try. It was useless if I couldn't defend myself without what my father gave me.

Breathing faster now I moved, my body slipping back, as my opponent came toward me. This was going to be annoying if I got beat senseless by them. Frowning I watched my opponent, my body shifting again into another fighting stance. I waited as I watched my opponent move toward me. This was going to be much more difficult than I expected it to be, but I was going to have to just enjoy myself until it all came to an end. After all, I didn't have much of a choice if I wanted to master my training. But that would come, sooner or later, with or without the win. Master always said, "You could learn one lesson from victory, but one thousand from defeat."

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyWed Dec 08, 2010 1:10 pm

Master was watching as I moved quickly through the motions he'd taught me over the years. Despite the time that passed, it only felt like the other day when I got my first lesson, and for whatever reason I found myself flashing back to those days. I was such a nervous student, and try as I might I could never get over it. At least not until recently. Unlike before I had finally found my inner strength, and it had given me the confidence that I needed to fight to my potential. It wasn't my full potential but when it came to strikes and such it was hard to deny I was skilled.

I breathed slowly as I moved through the motions with my opponent, the two of us almost moving as if in a dance. Every time he moved my own moved, my eyes narrowing. He was holding back but I was going to have to hurry if I was going to get through him. But haste made waste, and if I wasn't careful I would never be able to get through his defenses. I watched him jab at me and my hand pushed his fist aside before I brought my own shot up, aiming to jab him in the throat.

He pushed my attack with ease before I brought my knee up in an attempt to strike him in the gut. But he'd seen this coming too and slid around my knee, before throwing me to the ground. Grunting I came up in a roll my leg coming in a quick reverse roundhouse kick. His hand came up and caught my wrist. Exactly what I wanted him to do. He pulled on my leg as if aiming to take out my ankle. But I rolled with it, my body coming up in a jump. My knee came down smashing against the side of his head as I got close.

The two of us hit the ground, rolling and as we came up we were both smirking. He wasn't going to hold back anymore, I could tell. This was going to be lots of fun.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptySun Dec 12, 2010 8:20 pm

The two of us moved slowly, our bodies circling one another. My arms were raised defensively, my eyes narrowing as I watched the black belt circle round me. His stance shifted and his legs moved with more force, almost like he was kicking with every movement. The two of us moved almost as if in a dance, his style very difficult to fight. Especially when he was much better at it than I was. He was on a level above my own and I wasn't going to be very happy if he managed to get behind me.

Ba Gua was a style designed to dodge, and deflect. It was even said that if a master were to get behind you and put his hand on your back, you would never be able to turn to face him. Which meant that the fight was his and you were screwed. Though I had to admit this was likely one of those situations. So as he moved his legs like the heavy treads of a tire, I turned in place, watching him. My eyes never left my opponent. The rest of the world faded away from me. The entire universe consisted of the two of us and the mat we were on.

I moved quickly, my my body rising as I turned, in a spinning heel drop. My leg came down, along with the heel of my foot, but he'd brought his arms up. Both were used to block, giving me an advantage. At least for a moment. I had only one leg, and no foundation, nothing to dig into as he pushed me off of him.

His arms came away, throwing me back and to the ground. With a grunt and roll I hit the ground before forcing myself to come up. But my body was getting tired, and my muscles were aching, screaming for me to stop my fight and to just give up so I could rest just a little bit. True, everyone had their breaking points, but this wasn't mine. I was not going to give up, and I was not going to just give in to the begging my muscles were giving me.

Way of the Nine Dragons Empty
PostSubject: Re: Way of the Nine Dragons   Way of the Nine Dragons EmptyMon Dec 13, 2010 10:19 pm

Rising to my full height my arms dropped to my arms and I breathed slowly before sliding my foot back slowly. I raised my arms as I breathed, waiting as I watched him. My body was aching and I was more than exhausted. My body was in pain, and at the same time I was trying hard to keep my cool. Everything was crashing around me, the adrenaline from my body leaving. It was getting harder to keep my cool as weariness slowly set in.

I slowly moved around, circling off to my target's left, but my knee shook before I came to a stop and bowed to him. Bowing to him I began to withdraw from the mat. The other members of the class were giggling, except for the black belts. They knew the tactics that I employed, and they also knew that our master would not shun me for knowing my limits. Nor would he make fun of me.

I bowed to my master and slowly moved to kneel in place as he stood over me. I kept my head bowed as he patted my shoulder moving toward the students that had mocked me. He slowly paced before them and looked at the blackbelts I'd beaten in combat.

"You all mock him. But he defeated more than you could. And when his body hit the limits he bowed out. There is no dishonor in acknowledging a superior opponent. There is no reason you should be mocking him. Would any of you care to spar with him as soon as his energy is back?" the master asked, moving around them.

I found myself feeling prideful and had to mentally chide myself. Pride lead to sloppy fighting. And that would be a good thing. I knew better than to be prideful of my skills. At least sinfully. Pride was perfectly normal and natural, but it was when you were overly prideful that your skills suffered. And my master's acknowledging of my skills was more than a reason to feel the pride as a student, one should when praised by a student.
