Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 12:19 am

Everything was dark. The rodent opened her eyes slowly, her whiskers twitching as she attempted to get some sense of what had transpired while she was unconscious. There had been a pocket... pockets so deep they seem tied to infinity. Her senses couldn't detect where the pit ended and the cloth began, such a scary place she'd been thrown into after being caught by a fox demon. A vile, stinking onikonjou who reeked of alcohol and smoke. She shuddered at the thought. She was wrong to decide to come down to Earth without the proper training. She was wrong to accept this as part of her rehab. She was wrong to do all of this. The heavenly councils would punish her, unless she could do some good in this realm. Now, she couldn't get any bigger than a very small mouse, a very small white mouse with golden eyes that blinked about, attempting to get some sense of her surroundings. No doubt fresh terrors awaited, but she knew this was all in Bleaus's good plan.

PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 12:42 am

"Yet another arsenary incident has struck this section of the commons, officials still refusing to release any comments or information of these trends that have hit our streets here in Sai City. The couple of this home.."
Shou watched as the humans worked and bustled around the destroyed scene of what had once been a home. He had gotten a little carried away once more but this time he had stuck around from a safe distance to judge the human's reaction time. Five minutes. That's when the firetruck had arrived, far too late, and the police vehicles following in tow. Yellow tape was used to keep the onlooking neighbors at bay and now the media had showed to report the case. Judging from the newslady's words, this wasn't the first time that they had come to broadcast news of his works around town.
Shou snickered, coming to stand from his crouch from a house that was only a few spaces down on that same street. He very much doubted any could see him. Even if one had been spiritually aware enough to catch sight of spirits, they'd have to glance in his specific direction and with the commotion that was going on down there, it wasn't likely to happen.
Moving his way to the rear of the rooftop, he stepped off the building and continued his pace in mid-air, his control of fire bringing platforms to catch each of his steps. Well, he'd definitely had a good fill of fun this night all ready.. with no Grunty, or Yon, or even a Lance, he was beginning to resort to those inner urges of chaos as means of his entertainment.

Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 12:53 am

This place... it smelled awful! Holding her tiny paw over her tiny nose, she began to climb up out of the enclosure she was in, using one paw and her feet. This pocket seemed different from the last, she thought, whisking her whiskers over the material she climbed. This pocket didn't seem so deep either, she almost felt crowded before she popped out into the rapidly moving world. She couldn't see much farther than her whiskertips in this form, and only the sudden light of the fire confirmed that she was indeed out of her enclosure, which seemed to be some sort of a pocket.
Looking down, she saw a fuzzy glow and from the smell discerned that it was fire. Looking up, she saw a waving, red blur. Another few sniffs told her she was in the company of one of her enemies.
With a loud shriek, that ended up being a mere squeak, she ducked back into the pocket, quivering in fear.

Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 1:03 am

While pacing through the skies, Shou heard a light 'squeak' from what sounded like beneath him. His crimson eyes drifted downwards to the ground beneath, though the sidewalk was some distance.. the noise had sounded much closer than that. Thats when he noted the strange vibration that he felt against his leg within his pocket. Strange, as it didn't feel as if there were any new contents within it, though this movement surely was new. The oni would reach into his pocket, his fingers reaching out and grabbing ahold of whatever mobile thing was in there.
The first clue was the fur he felt. Shou came to a stop in his walking as he grabbed ahold of this creature that had hid within his clothing, pulling it out and in front of him. "A mouse..?" The demon muttered to himself, wondering just how the hell something like that managed to get on him.

Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 1:13 am

The mouse continued to shiver, hoping against hope that at some point the demon would decide to put down his coat, as unlikely a scenario as that seemed. She almost jumped out of her skin when she felt the hand descend on her small form and raise her helplessly from the relative safety of the darkness. Her small hands reached out to sink her manicured claws into the fabric, and she ended up emptying the contents of the pocket completely before she came face to face with what in her mind was a monster. With her bad eyesight it wasn't a hard conclusion to reach, as red as he was and as big as he was and as much as he smelled of hellfire. She found his eyes especially scary. She'd never seen someone with red eyes.
But since this was an oni she was dealing with, she automatically assumed his purpose was to eat, kill, or eatkill her, and for that reason she felt she should gather all of her hardly tangible courage so as to strike out and make an escape. Turning as far as her head would allow, she attempted to take a shy bite at the other's finger.

The oni had planned to simply toss the thing aside, wondering how it had gotten in his possession in the first place. It sure made a mess of things, as a couple of joints into the platforms of fire beneath him to burn up. He cursed at their sudden loss due to the rodent within his grasp. Before he could even get as far as flinging the thing as far away as he could, he felt the small teeth of the thing bite into his finger. "Ah! Get the hell away from me, dirty rat!" Shou shouted, flinging his hand back and forth as he tried to force the thing's tooth hold on him off.

Odd... she didn't know oni could talk, what with their innately evil natures, speech should be above them. Nonetheless, her shy bite turned into a fierce one as she clung for dear life. There lay below her both the danger of the fire and the danger of the ground below, both of which proved a considerable hazard now that her powers, including that of flight, were gone. Unfun of an experience being jerked around by one's teeth were, being burnt up or splattered was certainly less fun, and by concentrating on that affirmation she kept her grip, even as her body oscillated through the air, making her nauseous. Fortunately for her, she couldn't vomit in this form either, but she wanted nothing more than the darkness and safety of... better yet, she hated the darkness. She hated this filthy demon she clung to for dear life. She hated the similar filthy demon who'd originally snatched her off of the filthy street. Nothing could be better than a nap in the clouds right now.
But her jaws were still locked.

His attempt wasn't doing him any good, it seemed, and Shou came to halt his hands in its frantic movements to fling this creature off. To think that a little thing like this could cause so much trouble, and that amount of pain! Of course his fingers would be more sensitive than other areas and this thing was biting down for an even stronger clamp now. "Tch.. infernal flames, mold and gather!" A fyreball suddenly erupted in that same hand, the rat in the midst of it.

Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 10:55 am

The movement stopped, and the mouse all but sighed with relief, her jaws slackening somewhat and her amber eyes opening. Oddly enough, the wicked one seemed to be speaking again as temperature of the finger increased rapidly, so rapidly that her reflexes forced her to release him as one would release a hot stove.
Time seemed to slow down the faster she fell, as to her small size the distance seemed a long drop. Images flashed in her head, vague memories of a past life mixed with her own recent one. She saw an army of devils, lined up below on a stone cliff, bowing. She saw a human with a katana, shrouded in a radiant light, lowly, slowly chanting doom while his eyes and body glowed so white. She saw her house in Novartis, her friends having cake and ice cream with her on a sunny day in the sky. She saw ten thousand decorated skulls and rotting heads hung from a massive black gazebo ceiling, housing bats and infernal birds. She saw the smiling faces of all the kami she'd met after her rebirth, her mentors, her peers. She recalled to mind Bleus's fatherly, kingly face.
But it wasn't too late. Her bright eyes snapped open in search of solutions and she flailed her little arms out, managing to grab the hem of the oni's shirt. The fire roared, closer in proximity than before, and now, looking down, she could actually make out its writhing, angry colors and feel the heat of the flames lapping like so many red, hungry tongues.
Curling up into the fetal position, she drew her rear as far away from the glowing platform as possible and, her rodent composure breaking, allowed it to dawn on her what an unfortunate situation she was in. Another breath through the nose told her this devil was some kind of cat. He obviously controlled the fire she was trying so hard to escape. They were so far above the ground there was nowhere to run. Clinging to his raiment she couldn't immediately spot anywhere to hide. She was hungry and tired and scared and alone and had to go to the bathroom, this demon probably didn't care. All of these struggles only postponed the inevitable. He would kill her, maybe eat her, and she'd never get the chance to atone for whatever sins and horrors she'd committed in her past life.
Sniffling briefly, the noise much like a prolonged squeak, she threw back her head and started wailing and sobbing little mouse tears, far too frightened and miserable by this point to request a quick death.

PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 8:30 pm

His crimson orbs dully followed the movement of the little mouse's jump from his finger to the hem of his shirt. He sighed lightly, annoyed by how elusive this creature was becoming and how much effort it was taking just to get rid of the pest. Shou didn't want to bother with it anymore, but it was still attached to him, making little squeals that irritated him. Deciding that it was a mere earth animal and not a spirit, he felt no remorse in his next actions, "Infernal flames, engulf and surround me." His body would then erupt in the fire as it took his whole form in the flame.

Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 8:50 pm

The high pitched sobbing continued right through the devil's chant, until suddenly the world flashed very bright. The crying little mouse found her sobs turned quickly into shrieks of alarm. The entity beneath her perch had heated up to the point where she could no longer stay there safely or comfortably. Kicking away from the burning demon with sufficient force to take herself out of the trajectory of the flaming platform, she once again found herself free falling.
Out of absolute terror, she shrieked out a prayer. "Tear open the heavens!" she cried, almost instinctively. She'd certainly never had the need to chant before that she could remember. It felt more powerful than normal speech... more potent at least.
Suddenly, it seemed as if the air space she fell through was cracking, the split in the air running down faster than she was. Within the space of a second, an orb of some unnamed crystal and vapor burst through in a flash of light and caught her. The sky promptly repaired itself and it seemed she had achieved safety for the time being.
Laying on the round object, gasping for air and sobbing at intervals, she lay there, the places the heat had gotten her burned and stinging. "Kyrie Eleison" the little mouse cried out, once she was able to catch her breath again. A glowing light manifest over her burnt parts that repaired the smoldering flesh, allowing her to stand unsteadily up on the orb. The small healing incantation hadn't been enough to take away all of the damage, and she honestly wasn't sure how she was supposed to control this orb thing, other than it seemed empathetic in some way, but for now she was no longer in pain.
Blinking, concerned about the demon so far as he was another living soul, she turned around and looked towards him, her whiskers twitching as she tried to discern whether or not the attack damaged the user. Oni were prone to doing such silly self-damaging things.

The technique had served him well cause the mouse had jumped right off him almost instantly. The chant caught his attention though, coming to see that this was in fact a spirit, what would have been a once rational human-being, and not just some mindless rodent. It possessed some measure of interesting power, noting the burn marks and the singed fur repairing itself under a soft glow after the mouse had used its spell.
His feet came down to touch against a new platform of fire that formed beneath his step, his body still aflame as he stood just before the rodent spirit as it turned around to regard him once more. "Boruha Takashou.." The lion oni stated, his lips spreading out in a grin. "And what do I call the little mousey?" A fight was never the same without knowing the identity of one's opponent. Considering how pitiful the thing was, though.. a battle with a mouse might not have been any fun at all.

The mouse scratched behind her ear with a foot, then twirled her whiskers in one paw as she spoke. She couldn't make out his facial expression, but his voice held no aggression that she could discern. No longer hysterical, now that the oni didn't seem to be trying to kill her immediately, her voice was slow and gentle. "My name is Atilla. I come down here to help souls find their way to paradise, souls that will otherwise wander lost in these worlds. It seems yours has already chosen the darkness, am I right, Onikonjou?"
He spoke the truth, her size was rather small, and she lacked means to protect herself against this red blob in front of her. Closing her eyes and sighing, she wished she could change into a more accommodating form. In this one, all she could really see was that his shirt was unclean... quite unclean... when was the last time he'd washed it? Worse yet, knowing he was a demon made the stains seem all that more disgusting. Being able to see into the ultraviolet range had its drawbacks...
Shaking her head, she tried not to speculate. Such a thing would be impolite, even though this was a devil she was dealing with.

It proved a little odd that he would stop and talk to this little thing, unused to having to look so down onto a creature. Atilla was the creature's name and its purpose on Earth seemed ridiculous. From what he could tell of the human race, a grand majority of them were doomed to the fires of hell, anyways. Then again, he had spent all his time in the Lower Commons where crime was at an unrivaled high within the city. "The darkness.." Shou mumbled lightly, chuckling at her assumption. True, he couldn't help that certain actions as a human had decided him this way, but he was a demon very much interested in the light. That interest only came from the worst intentions, though.
"You're right. I am what I am. So you must be a goodly spirit. This'll be the first I've seen one."

The mouse seemed a little bit surprised, "You're so articulate..." she remarked vaguely, expressing her surprise at his continued ability to use the standard language despite his species. "I must admit, I have not seen many of my kind down here, mostly because of hostile humans and hostile onikonjou like yourself. That was quite a nasty burn you gave me there, but as you are ultimately a soul created by Bleaus, I must forgive you."
Her moral code dictated that she had to be polite to the other, but suspended contact beyond what was absolutely necessary would be bad. After all, he was obviously corrupt and corruption spreads. "From what I can tell, you are like a human, Takashou. How did one of your kind go about getting that form?"
All of the illustrations of oni she'd seen in the past were either hideous beasts or ogres. His skin color, or what she could make of it, made him seem like a normal man with perhaps a monstrous hair color. Such a red could hardly be natural.

A red brow arched at that statement as she remarked on his being hostile and the burns that he had given the spirit. "Well, your teeth are surprisingly sharp for being such a little critter." The bite hadn't been anything more than a nuisance though, but he figured he had handled a pest as any other would. For one that seemed to look down on his kind, she sure was interested, continuing with another question. Shou's legs bent at the knee, bringing himself down a level to look at the mouse a little more closely.
"From what I know, it's something all higher order demons are capable of." His hand reached out, fingers pinching at the tail of the thing and lifting it off of the orb it floated on, holding it out in front of him for closer inspection. "Are you saying you yourself can't get out of being a rat? Heh.. that's a shame. Especially in this form, I'm surprised you're managing to stay alive. Humans usually squeel and stomp at the sight of such things."

Hellfire Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyMon Sep 28, 2009 9:07 pm

Shuddering, the little rodent frowned, having been lifted from her ball and once again out of her comfort zone. Her fear of the devil had left her now that she found she could levitate herself, but it was still a very pesky thing to be raised by one's tail. In her book, it held significance as an intimate part. Firstly it was an extension of the skeleton, and being held by it meant she could do little to resist. Second of all, it was an extension of her rear, and thus was related to it in terms of how socially acceptable she would find him grabbing her by it.
A frown crossed her little rodent countenance as she stared defiantly into his red eyes. Such a long time it had been since she unlocked her human form in heaven. How exactly had she done it in the past?
The rodent didn't answer the demon, she simply closed her large eyes when he was done talking and clasped her paws together as in a prayer. As she chanted, she held her necklace, which was a rosary with a seashell in the center, and began counting them off with the syllables of her words. "Prima quasi leaena et alas habebat aquilae aspiciebam donec evulsae sunt alae eius et sublata est de terra et super pedes quasi homo stetit et cor eius datum est ei."*
As the incantation continued, a golden light began to emit from the creature's fur, the same golden as the orb she'd once sat on, but she couldn't remember the rest of the incantation, thus she simply hung there and glowed for a number of seconds, trying to maintain her concentration while going back in her mind over the many incantations she'd uttered and attempting to recall the last lines of the one to unlock her hume form.

*The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

"Eh..?" As the rodent's hand went to the necklace, Shou noticed he hadn't recognized the thing around her neck earlier. He poked lightly at the seashell that she clung to, but it didn't seem to interupt the words that flowed from the rat's mouth, a language he wasn't familiar with. Was it performing some sort of chant? The thing's body began to glow and he suddenly felt as if the mouse might have thought he was threatening it when he had lifted it up in front of him.
Beginning to think that maybe the chant might have been a threat to himself, Shou tossed the shining thing to the side, uninterested in getting hit by a holy spell.

PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyMon Sep 28, 2009 9:55 pm

Now no longer upside down, she felt able to think more clearly. Yes... the next part also had something to do with a heart. She reached the shell at the end of the first part and continued on. " pravum est cor omnium et inscrutabile quis cognoscet illud?"*
The small mouse began to grow larger in size, something like a rat. "Et dabo eis cor ut sciant me quia ego sum Dominus Bleaus, et erunt mihi in populum et ego ero eis in Deum quia revertentur ad me in toto corde suo..."**
Her eyes opened, she no longer needed to concentrate, the rest flowed out of her as easily as it had when she was looking directly at the words. It only now seemed to completely dawn on her that she was out of the other's hands and free floating. Her muzzle began to shorten, her voice became as a natural woman's. The short fur atop her head grew long and blonde, the upper layer coming loose from her head and forming a hood, as the fur about her shoulders became a fuzzy shawl that extended into a Dahlia Purple cloak down her back. Her feet paws transformed themselves into shoes with feet inside of them, the tough nails becoming the soles and boot tips. Her ears retreated into her head, and her eyes went from golden and large to very light brown and human, and her fur as well as her tail disappeared into her body. All in all, the transformation took a full minute as she'd never done this before in this atmosphere.
"mihi autem adpropinquare"*** she said, looking at the demon and really seeing him for the first time and speaking as directly as if he understood her. " Deo bonum est posui in Domino Deo spem meam ut narrem omnes adnuntiationes tuas.**** Good enough for you?"

*But the heart is deceitful above all things, who can know it?
**I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the lord Bleaus; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.
***My flesh and my heart may fail,
****But God is the strength of my heart and my eternal inheritance.

Well, he certainly wasn't expecting this sort of reaction from the woman's extended and long chant. When he had tossed her, it seemed she had begun the transformation in free-flight through the air, recognizing the features of a human woman coming out of the mouse. Before, he wasn't aware if this had been a male or a female, the name too unknown to him to place on a gender, while the mouse would naturally have a squeaky voice.
Standing up from his lowered position, Shou looked to the spirit's human form, figuring that had been answer enough to his question whether or not she could break free of that animal form.
"It could be better." Shou smirked, always preffering a larger bust size, more revealing clothes, and a shapely form that would have pleased the eyes of one with his imagination. "It works, though. This is a lot better than talking to a rat."

PostSubject: Re: Hellfire   Hellfire EmptyMon Sep 28, 2009 10:38 pm

The woman floated in the air, the light around her melting away and materializing into another orb that she sat on to study the male. He did indeed look completely human, other than his rather ogreish hair... she couldn't help but compare it to the fiery platform he stood on, that seemed much smaller now... his lovely light skin... his attractive frame... but what held her attention most were those smoldering eyes. They were red, a completely unearthly shade, but they were so nice despite that, almost iridescent, and she stared despite herself, stared until she felt they would scorch her soul.
And that was when she realized this would be a problem. A tingly feeling had built up under her belly and she quickly looked away, a blush coloring her cheeks that she tried to hide with her hair or her hood in one quick glance to the ground on the left. How could a devil be so attractive? She'd hardly known lust since her life started, but as soon as she acquired two legs it seemed she was struggling with it, from a perfect stranger no less and someone who was obviously trouble. Crossing her ankles and mumbling another prayer under her breath, she tried very hard to get her thoughts under control. "Et ne inducas nos in temptationem sed libera nos a malo..."*

*And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one...

Hellfire Empty

After he had spoken to the newly acquired human form of the woman, she seemed to take a great deal of time with eye contact. One of his crimson brows then rose when she broke away from it, glancing towards the ground on her left, though he couldn't have imagined what was interesting over there. Then again.. had that been a blush on her cheeks?
"No way." Shou murmurred beneath his breath, the corner of his lip upturning in a smirk, though he held some disbelief. Was the angel really attracted to him? She couldn't have made it any more obvious, noting the crossing of the ankles, only a gesture performed by the shy school girl types with a heavy crush.
The oni probably would have laughed out loud, though when she finally spoke it had been in that unknown language once more, confusing him as to what it might have been that she said. "Hey. I don't know those words. But you can talk normally, can't you?" Shou questioned, while taking some steps forward towards the woman, the air in which his foot would leave would be cleared of the flame only to have enough disc form beneath his next step.

Perhaps it was curiosity that froze her in place, perhaps a sort of fear of the unknown, perhaps an attraction, perhaps a combination of all of the above. Coming closer to her he could make out more details about her features. A simple judgement, she wasn't bad looking at all. He supposed cute. She had even come to call him 'Takashou-sama', though she was a kami and he an oni. It all tied in well together with her personality, though, and when she had stated not to come too close, his steps didn't cease in bringing him nearer. "Define too close. If you're worried about getting burned, don't." Shou would come to a stop then, standing what may have been five feet from the mouse kami. He figured he didn't want to scare her too badly, since an animal of that reputation was jumpy, alert, and usually scampered away when threatened. The lion wasn't one to relent, but Shou possessed an amount of wisdom in learning to handle others. "I'm not interested in fighting you. I've just never seen a kami before is all." It was a pity that his first encounter with an angel wouldn't have been a battle, though, for he was surely eager of that day. This one wouldn't have been fun at all to fight, she didn't seem the type that would devote herself to the play of it.
"Besides.. I'm interested. You really think you can save the human race? Don't you know we're making this our playground?"

Truth be told, she failed to determine how close too close was. The fact that he existed, lived, breathed, continued looking at her with those eyes already burned onto her memory made her highly uncomfortable. He seemed a fresh test of her resolve, specially spit up from hell to have her fail at her purpose. He approached closer and, in a way attempting to avoid that gaze that she wanted so badly to meet, lowered her head so that her hood covered her eyes. His statement, however, seeming a challenge, questioning something she'd left her cozy spot in heaven and even in this short span of time faced all manner of danger to accomplish, roused her from her shyness. She looked directly at the other, in her chanting monotone once again. "If I save one soul from a life of misery and sin, if I can keep one person from the mouth of onitoshi, it will be worth one thousand years in this sinful plane and two thousand demons... like... yourself..."
This time she couldn't look away as easily. A great urge came over her to reach out and touch him, he wasn't that far away... nontheless, she resisted, simply sitting there on her ball and staring, half in fright, half in wonder.

That response brought about a snicker from the oni, especially now that the spirit finally found it fit to look to him once more. He couldn't have known that his crimson orbs beared such an effect on the woman, yet meeting with her own eyes was only considered as progress. "How noble!" The demon exclaimed, though what he truly wanted was to crush the goodness within the woman. It amused and sickened him both, but he found a way to make a play of it all, seeking to broaden this kami's views of the world and its beyonds. "Misery, though? Do I look so miserable? I'm almost offended.."
The smirk on his face faded away, his brow furrowing to cast a glare in her direction. "You think you're doing some justice.. but right now, with what you're saying, you're setting yourself up as an obstacle to what I have in mind. My flames will bring hell itself onto this city.. all of your efforts will be for nothing. Save the precious few that you can, by all means. None of that will matter."
His crimson orbs glanced away from her, this time his own gaze downcasted towards the ground. He took the neccessary steps that would bring him just before the woman. From this distance she would surely feel the warmth his body radiated and when he spoke, his tone lowered. "The only shame is that you would deprive yourself the pleasures of sin.." His eyes flicked back upwards to her and the smirk reformed. "Heh. Whatever. Each to their own, eh? Whatever makes you feel good. Thats enough motto to live by to make you all right in my book. Just never do anything stupid to put you in obstruction to my path, and I won't do anything to stop yours."

Her gaze still stayed on him, she silently watched him go about his speech... assertive... masculine. Nonetheless, his words had a rousing effect on her. Perhaps it was the image he presented of the city alight while devils like himself pranced about, torturing the good people and robbing them of the little bit of hope they have remaining. Perhaps it was rage at the fact that he noticed she was struggling with these feelings below her gut, primal, instinctive, hearkening back to her old days of chaos and plunder, of taking all she could and giving nothing back, of spreading suffering and misery for nothing more or less than her own pleasure. She could feel the heat radiating from his body, almost welcoming, and it made her shiver with loathing, as one might at the touch of a worm. His voice was so alluring when he lowered it like that...
But resolve burned in her dark gold eyes. She stood up, facing what in her mind was the manifestation of the evils of the world and pointing her finger, preaching with the power of any man behind an alter raining fiery perdition, despite the blush recoloring her face. "Devil, this world doesn't belong to you. You see all those people down there? Those people you plan to burn? I'm here to help those people. Do you really think they're just going to roll over and let you win? No, those people have an inner light. Those people have something to protect. Even those that have lost that light and have fallen into despair are seeking that light, and I'm here to offer them hope. What do you offer them? What lust ever came without unwanted diseases and children? What greed without destruction? You were once a man, weren't you? What did you die for?"
As she stood there and stared, the other's eyes averted, a bead of sweat rolled down her face, falling off her eyebrow and disappearing into her cloak. It was terribly hot...

The oni thought he had been nice enough to get a better reaction than that. As she went on about the humans, Shou felt his rage beginning to return once more as hard as he had worked to supress it. Out of what? Pity? Because of how weak this kami came off to be, because he had figured its mission was overall worthless and nothing to be concerned about? It only struck nerves, continuously throughout its speech of resolve, the same courage that seemed to burn within the woman's eyes. His rage suddenly subsided at the final question and he was more surprised than anything, recalling the death of his mortal life. He had died protecting a human.
The oni stood in silence for a moment as his thoughts played out that memory and he didn't seem to notice the effect the heat he gave off had on her by this point. Instead, he decided he couldn't offer a response to the woman, turning away from her suddenly. No longer looking at the spirit finally gave him what he needed to speak what few words he did, "Fine. Do your best." The oni would mutter, before beginning to step across the skies.

So it seemed she'd won round 1, and that was the important part. Her teachers always said you couldn't be shy about your intentions with oni after all, and it was apparently good advice. The other oni now spoke quietly, retreating, taking his loathsome heat with him. A broad smile of victory played across the woman's face as she sunk wearily to her ball. And don't ever come back, she thought smugly, not being prideful enough in her win to give voice to what arose in her heart at the sight of the demon's retreating back.
Panting gently, she figured she'd need some rest. That ordeal seemed terribly harrowing, dangerous even. It had her adrenaline pumping. Standing for righteousness on this plane was hard work!

It was a pity to part away from his first encounter with a kami so quickly. But, then again, there was no common ground that could be found among the two of them. They were very different spirits with opposing goals. The oni then considered the woman he had just met and chuckled lightly. That bit of fieriness that she had showed he had liked, but overall she seemed rather weak-willed. There wouldn't be any need to concern himself as the kami had thrusted herself into a world where she wouldn't have even been able to save herself. The fact that she had even come out of this encounter alive was only due to Shou's strong control over those chaotic impulses within. He was sure whatever oni it was that she encountered next wouldn't have shared that same compassion that he had. Dropping from the skies, he landed among one of the Lower Commons' sidewalks, one that would take him someplace else. After all, this encounter had only fueled his desire to spread his destruction among this realm.
