RP| In the Danger Room

Heavy bags are placed beneath my eyes as I stand at the window of my office, not particularly looking at anything, but more so simply gazing out of the window. It wasn’t as if I had a beautiful view of the city, being as my window faced an adjacent building, thus blocking off any notion of a spectacular view, but I was more concerned with the blank gazing portion with the illusion that there was actually something to see outside of my window. Internally, I enter the realm of my thoughts as I rethink my decisions on the day that the demons attacked the barrier. In the following day, there had not been a counter attack and the demon had yet to wake up as well. I felt the blood of the lives of the people who died staining my hands as it was my request not to immediately take down the demon.
It was evening time and most of the people who worked in the building had gone for the day. The men and women who did patrols were on the streets and life had continued in the wake of yet another devastating attack. Not actually alone, Izumi’s presence was in the room with me, though I had grown silent for quite some time. A stir comes as the door is opened without the intruder first knocking. My body twists as I look to the door, to see a familiar blonde in a labcoat and glasses enter into the office as if it were hers. “Angela,” I greet one of the directors of our R&D divisions. Approaching my desk, she looks at Izumi first before looking up at me near the window stating briefly, “come down to the lab, I want to show you something… “
A frown graces my lips as the grounds had never actually been good between Angela and I, in our working relationship. She felt almost like the ex girlfriend I never had and there was a tense awkwardness in our interactions. With a nod, I sigh, figuring it better not to question what it was, or stress a conversation for clarity. Looking to Izumi, I comment, “will you accompany me?”

Accepting that Izumi would be coming with me, I look back to Angela who seemed a bit disturbed that I would ask my secretary to come with me. With a simple, “hmm” to accompany what would probably be an internal observation, she turns around with a forced nonchalant air and spoke shortly, “this way.” I follow, not really interested in our current destination as we are led through the Division building, down the elevator and to the R&D labs within the facility. The scene changes from office to laboratory as we enter sterile white halls illuminated by long rectangular lights overhead. Reaching a door, Angela scans her access and the door opens with a hiss allowing us to enter into one of her development rooms. As we walk in, she breaks the silence speaking, “we’ve been analyzing the data received from the two demons who attacked the Metro…” She leads the way through a room with various computer set ups, tables and instruments, to another room that was around the size of a basketball court filled with nothing. There were white walls and a high ceiling that probably negated the possibility of there bering rooms at least three stories above us, but beside the walls and ceiling, that was it. “…we’ve managed to use Realm and artificial intelligence to artificially create digital clones of the two demons based on their posture and mannerisms, tone of voice, and observed abilities.” She stops into the interior of the blank room. Pausing, I look to her and question, “what is this for?” She presses her glasses along her nose and smiles, “counter intelligence of course, but in your case, I want to show you just how powerful the foe is you encountered. You can call it training if you can.” There is a pause in her voice and a growing smile as she seems to be fascinated with herself as she continues, “what would have happened if you came across one of the demons on your patrol? Without backup, what could you do?” I frown at the implications of her question. She walks past me towards the door, “it’s simple to find out. Just stand right there.” Looking towards Izumi, she comments, “but you’re ‘secretary’ should probably come with me. The simulation is very real and she wouldn’t want to break a nail.”

It would seem as if this training experiment would go on without me being given the chance to even agree to it. I frown at the remarks of the scientist then look to Izumi as she plays coy and offers to sit the sidelines alongside Angela. I wasn’t particularly excited by the prospect of fighting those two monsters, but my pride wasn’t about to have me cower down in the face of what was obviously a challenge from Angela. I am silent as I gain Angela’s final gaze. She turns to Izumi, who had played her part of the helpless secretary well and chuckles, “yesterday, you say. You’ll have to give me the name of your manicurist.” Her back is turned to me as she leads the way outside with Izumi into the other room where most of the technical equipment was located. After exiting the room I am left in, the door is closed leaving me in a white space, feeling almost as if I were in an abyss.
Outside the experimental room, Angela explains, in a forced friendly tone as she walks to a console against the wall separating the rooms, “we did actually find out a lot of interesting things by observing the energy patterns of the three demons.” Her words would be odd, as there were only two demons specified in most of the reports. Target A was the Thunder demon and Target B was the Fire demon. She taps a few buttons on the console and a large flat screen illuminates with the visual of the experiment room, with me in the center, as well as charts and graphs showing my current heartbeat and various vitals.

“Hmm?...” Angela murmurs while making various inputs into the console before her. “Oh yes,” she continues, “technically Sergeant Asei would assume that he only encountered two demons that day. Technically there were many, but only three of interest. What we have found out in our research of the energy signals of Target A and B, was that there was another unidentified target there with its own spiritual energy that seemed to augment the abilities of Target B. This, of course, is only a hypothesis as the readings were weak from the van which Target B came into proximity with after his increase in ability. I believe that the secondary Target must possess two entities within itself to allow it to increase its power as it did. Of course, our information on the secondary target is very little given the fact we were only able to record information on him for the moments just before his final attack. Still, if there were a way we could use various energy signals in a like manner, we could increase the battle capabilities of our agents. Of course we’re years away from even being able to attempt that.” Of course in all of this talking, the question of my safety was left out. Speaking into the console, Angela transitions to, “I will begin the simulation now.”
Standing in the middle of white nothingness, I look around not seeing much. Looking ‘forward’ as I hear Angela’s voice, I am told that the simulation would begin. There was really no reaction needed from me. I simply stood there and waited for something to happen. Suddenly digital lines began to build around me and before I knew it, I was in what appeared to be the lower commons, in a dark alleyway with the moon lingering in the night sky above. Looking about my body, I notice my change into tactical attire with my various weaponry on me. Realm always surprised me for its realism, but it seemed as if the Division was able to take it to the next level; it was even chilly out side.

Not hearing a reply from Izumi, Angela asks, “worried about, Sergeant Asei?” in a sideways questions about the simulation in order to attempt to gain some type of insight on the relationship between Izumi and myself. She presses a few more buttons on the console then stands back and lowers her hands into the pockets of her lab coat, to observe the screen while holding a side conversation.
I knew the gist of the simulation. It would be my assumption that I would encounter either one or both of the demons here and be forced to take it down. That would be the “winning” scenario for me. The losing scenario would be if I were to die. Hopefully all of the safety precautions were in place to keep me from physical harm while in this virtual realm, but I could never be sure, knowing Angela. Not wanting to remain in one place, I take steps out of the alleyway and into the streets in front of me. It seemed as if the area was empty. I figured that it probably took a certain amount of processing energy to animate fake people, but besides that I assumed it was empty for the battle that would be coming. I hear a voice behind me speak, “insect” as I turn and notice a shadowy figure floating in the air. Though it was but a mere shadow, there was a strong sense of arrogance in its energy signature. From his position, it was easy to assume that he was looking down on me. I knew that the beef and broccoli of the simulation would now begin. I crouch defensively with my hand on my gun as I look towards the demon silently. “Go ahead,” he taunts as he beckons me to shoot him. He casually flips his hair with his left hand and looks down with a smile. The moon’s light starts to illuminate him better and I am able to make out something in his right hand… it appeared to be… a wine glass?

RP| In the Danger Room

“Mmhmm…” Angela observes as she looks to Izumi for a moment before turning her attention back to the screen. “So just how did you and Sergeant Asei meet one another. I’m assuming you were hired through a temp agency of some kind?”
The thought that “this was idiotic” runs through my head as I wonder just how accurate this clone of the demon was. Either way, I did not care enough to prolong things. My arm pulls my pistol from my holster and quickly aiming, a shot is fired to the chest of the demon in the sky. Almost on reaction, the demon’s body shifts to the side to give me a moving target and we move in opposing directions as he circles around and I fire two more shots. There is a spark from his position and the ground very near me is struck by a bolt of lightning, sending dust, rocks and debris up, striking against my body. Having narrowly evaded the blast, I assume to take cover, reaching the other end of the street, placing a car between us. Running to the far side of the car, my body lowers and my back comes against it as I hear, “you almost made me drop my drink.” I frown with a “tsk,” as I roll from off of the car, standing and firing three more shots to the demon that flies backwards in a zig zagging motion. Though he seemed to be moving casually, I could tell that his speed was considerably greater than my own. Looking around, I suddenly notice glimmering sparkles rise around me. “Oh shit,” runs through my mind as I push away from the car and make a break for it down a narrow alleyway. Light builds behind me and there is a huge explosion. The shock wave knocks me off of my feet and sends me flying through the narrow alley and my body slides a bit until a garbage bin stops it with a loud and resounding metallic twain. Having left a dent in the thing, my body sprawls a bit as dust and paper drift past me, moved by the wind of the attack. I cough slightly as I stand with no good visual of the demon.

RP| In the Danger Room

“I see…” comes the understanding of Angela with the explanation given. She lifts a hand to press her glasses onto her face before it lowers back to her side pocket and she resumes watching the visual on the monitor. “So you fell into his lap basically and he decided to keep you…” her tone is a bit curt with the summary, “how convenient.”

Getting to my feet with my gun still clutched in my right hand, I look from near the opposite side of the alleyway I was in, towards the dark smoke billowing in the wake of the destructive attack dealt in the streets. My body shifts to the side to stay close to the wall to attempt to stay hidden in the shadow of the alley. I was hoping to get a glimpse of the demon standing still so that I could get off a good shot. “You know what’s really unfortunate about you humans?...” I hear a question posed from behind me at an elevated position. As I turn around, a thin line of energy squeals through the air and strike, and then wrap about, my arm just as I am pointing my gun up. I give an uncharacteristic scream of pain as it feels as if I stuck my hand into a socket. My teeth grit as I attempt to compose myself through heavy breaths, and in looking past the barrel of my gun, I am able to see the Thunder demon sitting at the edge of the building with one leg crossed over the other, stirring his drink in his right hand, with his left hand withdrawing to his lap. He takes a casual sip and continues his statements, “you lack any real power.” A my displeasure is apparent on my face through gritted teeth as I attempt to squeeze the trigger to shoot at him, but I found that my arm had been paralyzed by the binding rope of electricity. Unable to move my arm, I quickly lift my other arm to wrench the gun from the grip of my other and attempt shooting at the demon with my left arm. By the time I look up to aim the pistol, he is gone again. I feel a pressure as if something was wrong when the demon rushes from behind me and slams his foot into my back, sending me flying forwards and ejecting me out of the alleyway, rolling into the center of the next street over.

RP| In the Danger Room

Angela presses her glasses to her face before folding her arms at the waist answering, “not really.” On the screen before her and Izumi, my stamina remains high but my health drops somewhere just above the half way indicated after taking the force of the last hit. Angela’s eyes glance to the vitals, but her expression seems cold as she seems not bothered by it. “I guess it cannot be helped,” she assumes vaguely, not really explaining what she means by it. She transitions into her next statement, saying, “the Captain seems to thick highly of Sergeant Asei, even though there’s nothing special about him. His physical marks are well below most of our more exemplary agents and I have my doubts about his ability to lead a team. He’s just no good at all. When he first came into the Division, he couldn’t even see spirits. I frankly don’t see how he made Sergeant as quickly as he did.”

The gun falls from my hand, landing in the alleyway. My body rolls lateral for a moment after the hit before I get up to one knee. My arm aches, but it seems as if I could move it now. My bangs shift as I look up and become alert. A body slides through the dusty alleyway and a hand reaches out for me. My arms cross in front of me, but instead of a punch, it is a grab as I feel the demon’s hands around my throat. I can feel the force of my body moving backwards and eventually a wall stops my motion. Bits of the wall break under the force of the demon’s strength and my body and I am held in place. My view of the demon is a bit fuzzy as he holds me there, but my fight or flight kicks in and my body moves on its own powered by the adrenaline of the situation. My right hand latches onto the demon’s hand pressing between his thumb and index finger while twisting the hand off of me. My body shifts to the demon’s side as I press my hip against him, pulling him over my body to take him down in a hip toss. To my dismay, the demon’s body doesn’t hit the ground, rather, it floats away from me and he easily back flips to his feet. He glides forth and thrusts his first out towards me. My arms rise up and guard my upper body and head. Another punch comes up high, that I guard against, causing my body to sway to the side a bit. He gets a punch in with the other arm, just at my kidneys, which breaks my guard, but I lift it up again, as another punch comes in high. I open an offense as I take a swing at him, which is easily avoided given I wasn’t much of a fighter outside grappling. He comes back and jabs a quick punch to the side of my face, then another punch to my mid section, ending with a blocked kick that still sends me stumbling back. I fall back into a crouch, where I my right hand comes to my ankle, where my P90 is equipped. Lifting it up, I shoot three shots quickly, with one striking the shoulder of the demon. In response, he lifts his hand and thrusts a bolt of lightning at my chest. My body convulses as the sparks encase my form before I fall to my knees, then onto my chest. The fact that I was still conscious meant that the demon was purposely pulling his punches. My breath is heavy as I feel the pain in my body from the shocking experience. I am able to see orbs of light float up, reflecting off of my pupils as they surround a large area around me. This so far would bring a smirk to Angela’s face.

RP| In the Danger Room

A ‘tsk’ emits Angela’s lips as the curt response comes from Izumi. It seemed like an indirect insult, but it was hidden well in politeness. “Ass kissing,” Angela would baselessly accuse under her breath, but not in a manner where it was completely audible. Clearing her throat, the scientist adjusts her composure to instead continue enjoying the ass kicking given out to the Division 12 officer. Izumi’s words cause no immediate reaction about the Sergeant’s safety. “He’ll be fine. It should be over soon enough. It shouldn’t kill him,” she assures in a non convincing voice. She continues, “maybe he should learn to make better choices…” She sighs, “but you have a point, I guess. I hope he’s learned something in this.”

I recognize the attack after looking upon it. On my belly, I look up in front of me where the demon was standing casually looking at his should wound. He did not seem to acknowledge the pain a normal bullet wound would cause, yet he found it curious and annoying. “So, you shot me,” the demon comments not very impressed, “for that, I’m afraid I’m going to have to kill you. I was so hoping that I wouldn’t get this shirt dirty today.” The demon looks back towards me from his shoulder and smirks. “Good bye, nameless officer.” The orbs around me continued to linger. I could tell it was the same attack I had seen before. I knew it had the power to destroy almost half a city block and there was no Division 12 van here to save me. Cursing under my breath, beat and hurt, I growl in defeat, “Angela, cut it off…”

With almost a giggle, Angela shakes her head and taps a button on the module in front of her. An encryption error comes onto the screen. She gains a look of surprise as her amusement instantly changes. “Oh no…” she murmurs, “I left the encryption key on my desk… I will need that to stop the simulation…” She looks up at Izumi and seems somewhat worried, not offering any further explanation, “I’ll be right back!” Looking to the screen, she seems frightened as she yells, “Jyn, get away from the attack, I’ll need 3 minutes to shut it down!” With that, she runs towards the door of the lab warning, “don’t touch anything on the module, you could me…” Her voice trails off as she gets further away if not stopped.
The demon looks around as the voice comes out, obviously reacting to it since it effected the environment. “Cut it off?” the demon speaks curiously. “Oh?... I wonder what that means. So, you think you can live? That’s very amusing.” Hearing the bad news, I attempt to move, but my body is slow to react. A thin line of energy cuts through the air and wraps about my frame, shocking it and paralyzing my body. I cry out in pain as the demon wonders, “where are you crawling off to, insect?”

RP| In the Danger Room

Angela’s form exits the room in a hurry and the door closes behind her. My vitals would be blinking in red on the main screen of the console with a warning given. A soft beeping noise would accompany the blinking light with a female voice stating ‘warning. Trainee’s life is in danger.’ The encryption error would not go away and stayed on the screen, locking the console from any input until the key card could deactivate it.
A few moments pass and Angela does not return. Her steps would be moving briskly as she jog-ran through the halls of the Division’s building, making it to the elevator. Pressing the button on the elevator, she saw that it was at least 4 floors away. Flustered, she elects to take the stairs to the side of the elevator. She opens the door to the side of the elevators and enters into the stairwell, running downward.
Within the confines of the simulation room, I get the bad news as I grit my teeth as the paralyzing binding rope of electricity sears against my body. The question from the demon was posed towards me in a disrespectful manner. I didn’t like interacting with the real demon, therefore I was not about to go into a conversation with its fake clone. The binding rope is ripped from my body and returns to the demon that slowly rises into the air, probably to avoid being caught in the blast of his technique. Angela’s words confused me; I didn’t know what was going on or why it would take three minutes to shut down a computer program. “Angela?” I call back loudly before breaking into coughs, “it didn’t seem as if anyone where even there anymore. Despairingly I yell, “Izumi!..” The demon’s amused face could hardly be seen in the moonlight as he smiles lifting his hand.

Angela would continue down the stairs, attempting to run carefully until she reached the next floor down. Her hand would come to the door and open it quickly while rushing through, her lapcoat swaying slightly in the air of her movements. There was fear on her face for the worst if she were too late in stopping the simulation. Making it to another room down the hall, he opens it and rushes into it.

Inside the simulation, I hear several shots fired before I look to the side and notice Izumi dressed like… a male Division 12 agent. I had seen more odd things before, but her current equipment and costume was not what I expected to see when I thought of her. The demon is stricken twice by the shots and falls out of the air. The magic attack fades away as the electricity stops lingering in the air. With a sickening thud, the Thunder demon hits the ground and is still for the time being. Attempting to hold in my groans, I lift myself up partially asking, “what happened…? Why didn’t Angela turn it off?”

RP| In the Danger Room

Izumi seems to get right to business as she goes into helping me up while explaining what happened with the simulation. “An encryption error…” I murmur lightly. It would suck for me if my life ended over such a thing. I allow her to assist me as I continue to listen to the explanation. I stand to my feet and I answer, “I’m not sure. I’ll try to. I might be able to pull that off.” Though sheer willpower and pride, I manage to stand on my own. If it hadn’t been for that, I might not have been able to. My steps are unsteady as I ask, “isn’t there an exit we can leave the room in?” I did not have the concept of knowing that the exit literally ‘vanishes’ from this side of the simulation once a user enters into it.

During this time, there is no movement from the demon’s body, but there is a light murmuring that is barely audible. By the time it could be heard, there is a strike of lightning from the dark skies above to the ground that strikes just before the demon. The bright light flickers as it hits the ground and then vanishes as quickly as it came. When it goes away and my eyes adjust back to the pale moonlight, I am able to see that the demon’s body is no longer there. It was around that time that I hoped only one demon was loaded into the simulation.

A frown comes to my face; I knew that the thing obviously wasn’t dead. It still had enough energy to do flashy exits meaning that there was a change balls of glittering lights could surround us at any time. Still, I thought that Izumi had shot it. With my shot earlier added to the damage dealt by my secretary I knew that the demon had to be hurting. I wondered just how accurate the three-minute estimate was and if Angela would be back soon with the key to shutting this thing down. Izumi’s voice comes to my ears as she stresses that we needed to move from this location. “Okay,” I answer moving with her the best I could. Being momentarily paralyzed messed with my balance a bit, but I was able to, limping, make my way following her. “Maybe there’s a building or something we can take cover in,” I offer. Above us, the skies began to crackle with lightning and thunder. The clouds were swirling dangerously above and the Thunder demon was still out there somewhere. Up to this point, there was no indication that the Fire demon was around, which was the only good break so far.

“Got it,” breathes a sigh of relief as Angela finally finds the key card in her desk. She holds it, clutching to her chest as she begins to run back towards the Realm Experiment Room. More than three minutes were passing and her main hope seemed to be getting there before it was too late. She makes it through the hallway with the elevators in sight. Upon reaching them, she presses the button and luckily an elevator is on her floor. Entering into it, she quickly presses the button for the doors to close and for it to begin moving up.
I follow Izumi accepting the help of her assistance. The bad thing about being a human was that being hurt, hurt, a lot. There were people who worked with me who could catch their breath and seemingly revitalize quickly after taking damage; to a point where it was almost unhuman; but unfortunately, I had not been gifted with such powers. Instead of getting better, I was actually getting sick in my stomach and my head was spinning a bit. I felt a strong inclination to lie down and go to sleep for a bit, until I felt better, but I kept myself wearily on my feet, dragging behind Izumi.
I knew that during this time, the demon was probably resting or building up its energy. Hell, it may even be healing itself for all I could know. He makes his presence known as a slender bolt of lightning strikes the front of us. A soft and arrogant laugh of amusement echoes around our surroundings before the comment is made to us, “how rude of you to shoot someone without announcing your presence. You human’s have no decency at all.”

RP| In the Danger Room

The bolt strikes down, causing me to, to avert my gaze, and in this I find that my eyes have to shift back to the darkness. By the time I am composed, Izumi seems to have found a means of hiding. I look up to see the boarded up door and her preparing to bash through it. I felt it was almost as expected of my secretary to be able to bash through doors and remain sexy at the same time. I watch as she makes her first collision with the boarded up door and a small sweat drop comes down the side of my face as she bounces off of it. Internally I think, “that wasn’t sexy at all…” Either way, I knew the second time would be the charm. When she bounced off of it once more, I figured it would be proper of me to offer assistance, even though said assistance probably wouldn’t help much. Finally she falls through the door. For a moment I want to ask, “are you okay?” but the urgency of the situation is sobering enough that I simply proceed quickly behind her. Eventually after the idea comes up to find a room, I ask, “are you okay?” probably in an ironic manner since I was far from okay. Looking around the room, I build my strength to continue moving to escape our stalking fate.
Outside the building, a long shadow generated by a body blocking out the pale light of the moon moves slowly towards the entrance created by Izumi.

With a nod, I follow behind Izumi as she leads the way to the stairs. I grunt a bit and stumble in my steps, but I regain my composure. I make it to the base of the stairway with her, using the wall to steady myself. I didn’t know where we were heading, but I figured Izumi felt that “up” was a safe direction to go. Around the time we make it to the stairs, the shadow stops and remains motionless. In my brief glance back at the door, I was unaware of how far away the shadow actually was from the door or whether the demon could sense our location or not, but I knew it was a good decision on Izumi’s part to ignore the demon and not respond to its earlier taunt. He very well could be wary about coming into the entrance, thinking it to be a trap of some kind. After a short moment, it would seem as if the demon was in that state of mind as a bolt of lightning rushes into the ground floor and spreads out, sparking an explosion in all directions and pretty much clearing out a wide area near the door. Afterwards, the demon’s body cautiously enters and looks around to find an empty ground floor.

Around this time, Angela had made it back to the floor with the Realm Experimental Room and was rapidly approaching the room with a look of worry on her face knowing the amount of time she had been gone was longer than expected.

RP| In the Danger Room“A little,” I lie as I follow after her. It wasn’t the truth, but it was to put her at ease. The truth of the matter was that running at this pace and the constant adrenaline running from being chased would continue to drain me, as I hadn’t actually gotten a chance to rest. My body ached and each minute I was walking, standing or running made things worst. This catches up with me as I collapse after reaching the next floor. I attempt to get up, but my body refuses. It hadn’t helped me that each one of the demon’s hits was like singular incidents of being hit by a car. Luckily, my nerves had composed a bit after the various shocking experiences, but my body was getting closer and closer to shutting down. I stayed on the floor for a moment to catch my breath and rest. My body continued to coax me to lie down, even if just for a little while. If I could just close my eyes for a little while, I knew that I would be fine. Not really thinking rationally, I wave Izumi ahead and say, “go, I’m just going to rest for a small moment. I’ll… I’ve got to lay down…” At that point, I was not thinking about the demon downstairs that was in the process of zapping hiding places to make sure the first floor was indeed clear of us.

After a moment, the zapping downstairs stops, as the demon is able to understand that we were no longer on the first floor. It is quiet for a moment before footsteps begin. I could feel Izumi moving me, but it seemed like she was getting further and further away. I feel my body hoisted up and wanted to protest against such a thing. Even when basically helpless, a man still had his pride. Unfortunately I was in no shape to protest against the aide she was giving me. There are steps on the stair way and they start moving quicker to our position. It seemed as if the demon was right behind us and at one point, it almost felt as if the demon caught up, though the would not have made it to the same floor as us just yet. Even though he was not on our floor, balls of light started to fill the hall of the level we were on, the level above it and the level below it. The voice of the demon comes out as he says, “you’re making this way too difficult. This will simplify things. See you.” A bright and blinding light fills the air.
When the light fades we would be in a blank white room. In the next room over, Angela would be leaned over the console, looking at the screen to see us unharmed by the final attack. Her breath is a bit heavy as she murmurs, “thank god” glad that she was able to make it in time.

The door into the room slides open and Angela runs out of it with a high pitched “Jyn!” The distance was a lot shorter now since the terrain was no longer manipulated by realm. Coming into the center of the room, she runs, making her way towards Izumi and I with a worried expression asking, “Jyn… are you okay?”

RP| In the Danger Room

Around the time of the final attack and the bright lights, I had passed out. I was already beaten and tired and wanted to sleep anyways; this way, if the attack had gone off and I was sleep, hopefully I wouldn’t feel it. Luckily we are both spared, but I am left unconscious. I do not feel Angela as she rushes to my side after Izumi releases me. Leaning over, she pulls me up, cradling my unconscious form. One hand reaches into her lab coat and pulls out a small portable light, which she uses to shine into my eyes while holding it open with her opposing and cradling hand to check my pupils. She checks my heartbeat, placing her head to my chest and my breath as well. After realizing that I was alive, she seems relieved and holds me close going so far as to kissing the side of my face. In all of this, she makes no reference to Izumi’s existence at that time. Angela composes herself and basically orders Izumi, “help me get him up and to the next room. There’s a med closet where he can rest and I can check him out more thoroughly.”
