Putting In Work 1 Kyrobanner
“Be ready to roll at 9.”

What vague instructions I had been given by the male who will seemingly bring me into the environment I need to exist in order to continue my purpose. The largest annoyance might have been the fact that there was no “where” involved in it. It would be an even greater annoyance to have to call him back and extract that information from him. On top of that, Tre seemed like a hard person to get in contact with. It seemed as if he had a thousand numbers and rarely answered the same one twice. As I stand and ponder these things, I emit a sigh into the cool night air. I stand on the sidewalk near the corner of a street with my hands placed within the side pockets of a large black coat that covers my form. The sound of air shifting and soft hums emit as vehicles sparely traverse the streets about me. My gaze is to the side as I stand on the sidewalk watching the nearly empty streets beneath the light of the city’s glow and partial moonlight.

Though he did not say where to meet him, I figured it was at the place where we often met up. I could feel the weight of the pistol as it was held in place on my waist by my belt. I had neither a holster for it nor ammo; I was simply given a pistol in order to play look out for an illegal operation. I should have bought bullets, but after quitting my job, I didn’t have the luxury of a lot of spending money. I suppose if it really came to it, I could bluff someone with the pistol and pretend its loaded, and if all else failed, then it could probably be used as a projectile; though I didn’t know how good my throwing arm was. A sharp feeling of anxiousness begins to fill in my stomach as my gaze shifts up. With the tilt of my head, my hair shifts down past my gaze that seeks the night sky with the large moon looming overhead large and ominously over the tall urban buildings that tower over myself as well.

My attention is captured by the sound of loud music as it comes thumping down an otherwise quiet street. There is a soft squeal of breaks as a four-door sedan pulls up to my side. The car is all black with large metallic rims on each wheel with a low profile to it. The back door to the sedan opens and smokes billows out of the opening heading into the night air. “Get in foo!” a deep voice emits much to my disagreement. With a short frown, no words are exchanged as I shift forwards and move into the car. As I get into the back seat, I notice the five other people in the car, two of which were in the back seat, actively smoking. A familiar voice comes as Tre turns around, while holding the steering wheel in his left hang, and grins, “what’s up Dango-san!” I frown. Dango-san refers to a group of children’s characters based off of what I think is supposed to be the ghosts of a bread puff kabob. They are light in color given the fact that they are ghosts. Aside from that, they are generally friendly and live together in what is referred to as the Dango family. “My name is Jyn,” I remind Tre, though I know that he knows. “…Nah!” one of the men in the back seat, furthest from me, answers; the one known as Lil Knock Knock, “you’re Dango-san, all right. You look like a ghost… or rather you’ll need to be one when we send your ass out to be a look out. When the business starts, we can’t have no interruptions, ya feel me? You gonna need to do some spookin’.” What did that even mean? Contrasting his name, Lil Knock Knock was nowhere near little. He was a large male with black dreadlocks who looked like he could hold his own in any fight. With a laugh, Tre casually turns back around and proceeds in the driving. “Ayo, pass that shit,” comes the words from the smallest of the group, the one known as Jr. He sits to my side, in the middle of the back seat, in a black hoodie and a black baseball cap, which they seem to refer to as a fitted. He reaches over to Lil Knock Knock who hands them whatever they are smoking and proceeds to inhale on it. I never really felt comfortable around them since Tre was the only one I knew before this situation started. I knew I would have to individually gain all of their trust, but they seemed comfortable enough around me to tease me casually. Continuing his talking to me, Lil Knock Knock informs, “why you always dressed like that? You look like you’re about to shoot up a bunch of people.” “Or expose himself at a bus stop,” Tre adds. Lil Knock Knock continues, “aye… we’re going to hook you up with a chick okay? You ever been with a black girl.” I clear my throat into my fist, caught off guard with the blunt question. The person in the passenger seat, known as Prettyboy, or the Prince, gives a soft laugh as he answers, “all right now... Get that boy hooked and he won’t be good for nothing anymore.” He was the same as them, but his hair was almost like mine; it was odd. My brows lowers as I murmur, “…that’s a double negative…” Lil Knock Knock continues, “see, what you got to realize, is… not to fear the booty.” Not really amused, I speak dryly, “fear the booty?” With a grin, he nods, “yeah. See, when it gets in front of you… it’ll be like BAM!” By this time, Jr. is amused as well as Tre who seemed to be cackling in the front. Knock Knock continues, “I mean… it’ll be like DAMN, SON!… Just be ready, it’s not going to be what you’re used to working with… but don’t run.” “Don’t be scurry,” Prettyboy adds, “…don’t be scurry.” I look to him incredulously, but Knock Knock continues, “you’ve got to grab it!” He illustrates as if an invisible booty was in front of him, “and smack it! Gone on ahead and smack it one time.” I shake my head, “I’m not smacking an invisible derriere…” “What’s that?” Jr. coughs, passing the smoke back to Lil Knock Knock, Prettyboy answers, “it means ass, simpleton.” “Fuck yoooooou…” Jr.s voice trails. Lil Knock Knock coaxes, “smack it one time! Smack it before I smack you.” I hesitate. “Shut the hell up,” Tre laughs, “we’re here… dumb ass, people… I tell you.” I was saved. Looking up through the windshield, I see that we are in a parking lot of an older looking building, but I could hear music coming from within. The front doors to the sedan open as well as the back door. Turning to the side, I open my door and step out. Jr. exits on my side. Stepping away from the car, I stand and wait for the group to assemble. “Stay close to us,” Lil Knock Knock advises as the car doors close. I give a silent nod and follow after the group led by Tre.

Oddly enough, there wasn’t security at the front door. After getting into the building, I realized that if there were security, half the people here probably wouldn’t be able to make it in. Loud urban yet sultry music welcomes us. As I walk in, a new atmosphere reveals itself to me from behind the backs of the four individuals that I had come with. The main room was dark, but lit by various strobe lights of differing colors that circled about and moved in random patterns. In one area of the club there were several circular stages set up, each with its own pole in the center and a scantily clad or fully nude woman dancing for the males seated before her. The floor was wooden in that area, with a carpeted area that seemed to be reserved for drinking and socializing a bit further back. To the opposite side of the room, there was large pool tables set up with various people watching or partaking in games. In the back, the bar was set. There seemed to be a hazy smoke lingering about the room along with a strong smell of alcohol and something else; I knew immediately that I would stick out in this crowd. “I want that!” I hear Tre’s voice call out, commenting about a particular woman, as we make our way fully into the club with Prettyboy to his side, sharing in his zeal and Lil Knock Knock lingering behind them. Jr. was to my side as he speaks casually, “I know you’re probably not used to places like this, but try to relax. If you’re stiff, someone might try to fuck with us, you dig?” I nod and assured him that I dug. His backhand rises up and pats me on my chest as an attention gaining, I would guess, with his gaze and nod signaling towards the bar as he offers, “let’s get you a drink.”

Time passes in the bar with nothing much for me to do than watch three of the people whom I had come with act silly and court the young ladies from the side lines as they danced on stage and exposed themselves for money. They seemed to be enjoying it, as did the women who were making a substantial amount of money off of Prettyboy and Tre alone. I held back, sitting at the nearest table to their rear along with Jr. who had begun a philosophical rant on politics to which I suppose I was listening as I held my drink in a composed manner and waited. It isn’t long before a large male, seemingly a bouncer, approaches the trio at the podium and leans over to speak to Tre who nods and stands up, tosses a few bills onto the young lady’s stage and then turns, walking towards Jr. and I with Prettyboy to his side and Knock Knock following. With a nod of his head, he simply informs, “let’s go.”

Putting In Work 1 Kyrobanner
Following the guerrilla type bouncer, we are escorted to the rear of the club. As I walk, with them, I turn for a moment, looking back into the club, when I notice someone vaguely familiar looking in our direction, touching his ear. When our gaze meets, he lowers his hand and looks away as if the eye contact was by mistake. I do not have time to attempt to put the face with my memories as I am escorted through a door. We enter a hallway after exiting the main room and precede several doors down until we come to a large red door. The bouncer type opens it. Tre turns around and looks to me, “okay, Switchblade. You keep this gentleman company and we’ll be right out. Try not to hurt him.” The bouncer looks to Tre who grins, then to me. I stand calmly without a response. Who the hell was Switchblade? I give a nod and the guys enter into the room with the door closing behind them, leaving the bouncer and myself. The bouncer sizes me up as I stand there with my hands in the pockets of my large black coat. I turn to look to him and we stay that way for a moment before we both silently look back forwards. Tre must have been bluffing on my account… did I look dangerous? Fighting wasn’t something I was great in and the bouncer looked like he could eat me. As I stand there in silence waiting for Tre and the others to return, my mind wanders onto the face of the male that I locked eyes with. After thinking about it, I remembered the male from the police precinct. He had been in the background of the office when I went to check on the status of my parent’s murder case, but why would a police officer spend his off time… My thoughts trail off as my eyes widen. He had been touching his ear; he might have been calling someone and if that were true, then this would be bad. My coat shifts as I casually walk away from the door to the end of the hall. “Where are you going?” the guerilla asks. “Shut up,” is my answer, and luckily are not responded to. I make it to the window at the end of the hall and start to look around the outside of the building. The night seemed calm enough in this area of Saicity. There wasn’t much happening. As I continue to look, something catches my eye, as I look closer to see a car parked in an alleyway. The doors open and two men in bulletproof vests start to creep towards the building. A frown graces my lips as I turn and make my way back towards the bouncer. “What is it?” he asks. “Cops,” I say calmly. The bouncer seems surprised as he quickly opens the door before I make it to there. There is a large circular table in the center of the room with two briefcases on it. “Hey!” Tre calls out as the other unknown male in the room stands up. “This guy said he saw some cops,” the bouncer explains. I look to Tre seriously and inform, “we’ve got to go, they have already placed someone in here. I saw him on our way in.” Tre pauses for a moment, “then say something soon!” He proceeds, then not wasting any time, he orders for Jr. and Prettyboy to close up and grab the briefcases. The male who I would assume to be the club owner, seems to have his own preparations to make, but he informs, “head to the end of the hall, there’s a fire escape there.” “Right,” comes the reply as the main group exits the room and heads out into the hall with me. “Let’s go,” Tre orders as we fill in behind him. There seemed to be some commotion in the club, or maybe our footsteps were noticed, but as soon as we passed the door from the main room, it burst open and the man from the precinct bursts in with his gun drawn. The surprise catches me off guard and I turn and pull my pistol on him at the same time. “What are you doing?” Jr. calls out as the others pause, but I frown, “go!” The cop looks to me with intensity and says, “put down your weapon, or I will shoot. You can’t get away from here.” I make no movements or comments as I hold him at bay with my empty weapon. Thoughts of the situation run through my head. Even if I got taken to jail, it wouldn’t be the end for me… I just needed to stay alive here, and the best-case scenario for me would be if Tre and the others got awa… It happens before I can even react to it. In the time it takes me to blink, Lil Knock Knock managed to grab the cops arm that held the gun and push it to the side. A shot was fired that was buried into the wall and Knock Knock’s fist was buried in the man’s face. He was out for the count. Knock Knock turns to me and grabs me by the coat, “let’s go Dango!” Still kind of surprised by what happened that quickly, I nod, put away the weapon, and follow behind him as we make our way to the fire escape. The metallic stairs make clunking noises under our feet and I can hear the sound of the police as they raid the club. Making it to the bottom, Knock Knock informs me, “we’re splitting up. Go home, we’ll hit you up later. Don’t worry; you’ll get your cut. Peace.” With that, his back is turned to me and he makes his way down the alleyway, “stay safe, foo.” With no clue where I was at, at the moment, I turn and begin walking off quickly. With any luck I would be able to find myself home without being mugged or murdered.

After a long night, I make it home with a “finally” and a sigh. I attempt not to think too much on the events that transpired, but hopefully the group’s trust in me would have risen. This was the path that I had chosen. I had quit my job to get into the crime world. It might kill me, but I felt that everything that I was doing was bringing me closer to the group responsible for the death of my parents. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to find out anything from the other side of the fence, so that’s the reason for all the trouble. My resolve is reset and I attempt to push off the anxiety of the day’s events from my mind. I make it into my bedroom with the alarm clock reading an illuminated 3:27 am on the night stand by the bed. My hands pull my coat from my shoulders and I make my way to my closet to undress for the night before heading to bed. I knew that I would sleep well once I got in the bed. Reaching the closer, I place my coat into it and pull off my shoes, socks and pants, placing them in the appropriate hamper. From there, I make my way over to my bed, pull the covers down and get into the bed. Shifting beneath the sheets, I adjust myself for a moment before easing up and giving a sigh, allowing my body to relax. 3005
