| Brendan always loved school but if there was one thing particular he liked about school it was the science lab. You could find him there every chance he got. In the science lab Armant sat at one of the lab stations doing the last of his calculus homework while the teacher gave instructions to the rest of the class. He always did his homework from other classes. Most people would miss stuff but he was amazing at multitasking. Besides he already knew how to do todays lab. He had done it a hundred times on his own during lunch break. He was always mixing chemicals, ever curious of the results. More than once he had the science lab evacuated due to toxic fumes. He was just smile and scratch the back of his head. A sincere apology and a promise to be more careful next time and he would find himself right back in the lab. The other guys in his grade looked at him funny and called him a freak because of his obsession with science. That or it was the tail and ears. The girls on the other hand all found him adorable. It might have bee the fact that was a little kid still or the ears and tail. Either way most teachers had a hard time telling him no and he was one of the brightest kids in the school so they could usually trust him. Todays calc homework was intergrals. They were really easy and he usually found himself answering all the teachers questions before everyone else. -262 | |

| Lately though he found people got annoyed by this so he stopped answering so much. He was busy graphing the last problems solution out when the teacher began the lab. Brendan let out a bit of a sigh and closed his calc book. As much as he liked learning he hated taking home homework. He tucked his clac book back in his backpack and zipped it up. Brendan set the pack down in his the chair of his desk and stood up. He grabbed the igniter and turned on the gas for the bunson burner. He squeezed the igniter a few times causing a couple sparks. One of them catches and the bunson burner sets fire. Brendan adjusts the gas to make the flame blue. The teacher had some chemicals at her table to mix for the lab but he had filled out the labsheet during lunch using his memory from the time long ago when he had experimented on his own with those same chemicals. So he decided he would use this time to experiment with some polymers he had been toying with. He had broke one down with some hydrochloric acid and mixed it with the powdered form of another making a muddy sludge. His goal today was to find some form of hardener. Brendan slipped a container from his backpack onto the counter and set up his science notebook so the teacher couldnt see what he was doing. Looking around the room he noticed one the girls were were looking at him. -255 | |

| "Actually... Yes" Brendan says with a cute smile. "Do I smell lilac?" He says and leans forward to sniff the air around the teacher. "I do... you always try so hard to be pretty. I find you very appealing you shouldn't try so hard." As he says this he scratches behind one of his ears and it twitches a bit. "Anyways... Ma'am I was wondering if by chance you had any super glue I could borrow. My favorite pen broke when I knocked it from my table." He adds his sad little puppy eyed look for good measure. The teacher lets out a sigh and slides out her top desk drawer. She rummages through its contents for a minute and pulls out a tube of super glue. Still red in the cheeks she hands him the glue and tells him he must be careful with it and to return it right away. As he makes it back to the station he sets the glue down and makes a few faces while repeating "Be careful with it" in a couple different voices. "I might look like a little kid... but im smarter than half the other students... Why do no one treat me that way." He lets out a sigh and decides to get back to work. He checks the third petridish to make sure it was still viscous enough. Satisfied he squeezes a decent amount of the glue into it and sets the glue aside. Again he stirs the mixture up with another tongue depresser.

| Sliding the third and final dish aside he admires his work. Not bad. Looking around the room he sees everyone else is getting close to finishing the actual lab. Well most everyone else. There was always the few that screwed up halfway through and had to start over. That was the main reason Brendan refused to have a lab partner. He only trusted himself when it came to his grade or more importantly his science experiments. Brendan decides its been long enough and checks the first mixture. As he slides it back over he sees it slop around a little. "Damn." he says and pours its contents down the sink. He turns on the faucet to rinse down the evidence. As he shuts of the sink and looks up his eyes meet the "No Dumping Chemicals Down the Sink" sign. "PShh" He says. "Nothing here will react dangerously" He rinses out the petridish and places it aside. He checks the second dish and to his delight finds that it is indeed solid. taking teh petridish he tips it upside down and taps it on the counter. A round solid disk slips onto the countertop. He rinses that petridish and places it with the other. Taking the disc in hand he judges its weight. Tapping the edge on the countertop he tests its durability. It seemed durable enough. "The pewter worked rather nice" he concludes. He turns it over in his hand. "So the weight and hardness of plastic but the durability of pewter... interesting"

| Setting it aside he pulls the third and final petridish over and examines it. It seemed solid but to be sure he touches the top with his finger. Relieved he cheers inwardly for a second one hardened. He turn the dish over and tries to tap it out like the last dish but its stays stuck inside. "Hmm so the glue kepts its properties" He bites at the inside of his cheek as he thinks off a way to get it out. Looking around the room he makes sure no one is looking. He makes it look like he is writing something in his notebook and uses his elbow to slide the dish off the counter. It hits the floor and shatters. Everyone upon hearing the noise turns to him. He acts startled like everyone else and looks down at the dish and then back up to the teach. He smiles a real wide smile "Oops..." he says scratching the back of his head. The Teacher gives him this annoyed look and he pins his ears back. "Im sorry I didn't think it was that close to the edge Ill clean it up I promise." He imediately reaches down and pockets the third dishes disc before anyone can realize he was doing something he wasnt supposed to. Picking up the bigger pieces he walks over to the closet throws them in the glass bucket and grabs a broom and dust pan. As he makes his way to his station he slips the disc onto the table next to his other one.

| Brendan places the dustpan on the floor and sweep the broken glass into a nice neat pile. Behind him at the desk the teacher makes a comment along the lines of "Thats why I said everyone needs to pay attention to the fine details. Thats all part of being careful. Those science supplies are not cheap. Besides someone could get hurt. Do you want that on your conscience?" Brendan pretty much had that memorized as often as he got caught blowing stuff up or filling the room with toxic fumes. Luckily though he just had to flash his smile and say a small apology and his charm would get him mostly out of trouble. He aligns the dustpan with the pile of broken glass and begins sweeping it into the dustpan. After sweeping all he can see into the pan he slides the pan aside and sweeps one more time. He sweeps the few pieces he did miss the first time into the dust pan. Brendan makes his way to the closet where he dumps the pan into the glass bucket. Inside were a bunch of broke beakers and vials. Most of it was probably him, actually probably all of it was him. He hangs the broom and dust pan up in the closet and makes his way back to his station. He apologizes to the teacher one more time for good measure and when she goes back to checking homework, he goes back to examining the contents of the third disc.

| He smirks and turns on the sink. He runs the drooping disc under the water to make sure its cool. Testing it with his fingers he finds it luke warm which he seems content with. Turning around he drops it into the waste basket behind him for the janitors to take care of. Around the room almost all the other kids were done packing up and were waiting for the bell. "Damn. I wanted to mix some pewter in the beaker with the rest of the substance. I guess I'll do that at home on the stove when mom takes her bath. Then maybe Ill take it out to the park and runs some rigorus tests on it." He take its off the bunson burner sets it down in the sink. From the lab equipment area he snags a bigger vial and a cork stopper. He poors his liquid into the vail and places the cork stopper in the end. He runs the vial under some cold water before slipping it into his back pack. Brendan rinses out the beaker and returns it to its rightful spot. As he dismantles the bunson burner the bell rings and everyone floods out of the classroom. He slides the bunson burner in the cupboard below the countertop. He lets out a sigh and throws his backpack over his shoulder and on his way out the door he sets the petridishes back where he grabbed them from. He was almost out the door when the teacher asks for the super glue.
