The girl's curiosity had gotten the best of her.
This feeling, she felt that she could use it. It was undoubtedly some sort of sixth sense. To possess it, it almost made her feel insane. Though, she was able to deal with how jittery it made her, now. It was that feeling that you knew something was there, that there was something 'hidden'. Whilst she could not detect hostile intent from it, it has long since made her a lot more alert. If she polished this ability, she could imagine the strength it would brandish in bad situations.
It was a difficult one to hone, though. The thing was she had to find some sort of area to go to, in order to localize things that were hidden. Her car being repaired in a garage, it would be difficult to get back to the Bastion to check out the area where all of those people died. It was plausible to assume some of them had turned into ghosts. Referencing those men that were battling against the spirit, of course.
Mei decided to stop by a local cemetery. She had to figure out if that sixth sense would enable her to pick up on things such as spirits, without her having to actually seek them out. Sure, she would have to go find them after the sense activates, but it wouldn't be as much as a problem as knowing they were not there.
Buzz. There it was again! That same feeling. Concentrating on it, she attempts to prolong it more. As she continued to walk through the depths of the cemetery, it began to get more and more potent. To calm her nerves a bit, she strikes a match. It wasn't used for lighting, it was used for lighting a cigarette she promptly positioned in her mouth. Vanilla flavoured cigarettes that she bought off of some bum. Pathetic. Though, she would conflict with her subconscious mind to argue that she wasn't in this pathetic state.
There it was again. It was certainly an infrequent sense, but it had to be practiced. These types of things were hard to search for, especially when her 'sixth sense' wasn't all that reliable at the moment. Mei takes a drag from the cigarette before noticing something. It was!
Something humanoid. Normally, she wouldn't have even bothered approaching, but for some reason today she felt sympathetic towards people who have lost ones. She wasn't the only one in the world.
"Hey." Extending a hand, she taps the guy on the shoulder. Reaction with his leather jacket makes a distinct slapping noise. As though touching a hot stove, she withdraws her hand quickly. "Need a cigarette?" She asks him.
In response, he simply shakes his head. He was the type of guy you'd see in a biker gang. His build was beefy, but it wasn't exactly huge. He wore sunglasses, just as she did. He did look like a smoker, but there seemed to be something wrong with him.
"Paying respects?" This was bad. She'd probably lost all possible etiquette she could have used back in the hospital when she was so easily brushed to the side. This would make communication fairly difficult. That and, he looked impaired when pertaining to humble conversation.
"Who's asking?" He turns around, facing her. He had an intimidating face, an elongated scar over his left eye.
"Don't get me wrong here, I'm not your friend. I just know some people who died in a fire. Thought you be able to connect." Mei says, reassuringly.
He looks back towards the grave. "This is where my son rests. He was killed in some sort of bombing last week." His words become solemn. Mei appears to be shocked. Could it really be! Afterall, it wasn't like those people didn't have any family whatsoever. That was inconceivable.
"Why am I telling you this? Leave me the fuck alone, girl!" He thunders, though doesn't turn his attention towards her. Mei seems to ignore him at first, because she gets that sixth sense feeling again. This time, it was much, much more strong of a feeling. Then, she sees it. There was something that mimicked the apparel of a translucent leech spirit right on his back!
Grabbing it, she pulls it off. She came to the realization that spirits like these would cause misfortune to people, and they didn't have a clue because they were not spiritually aware.
"Fine. As if you're worth my time." Mei fishes, holstering the spirit in her hand, unbeknownst to him. He doesn't bat an eye towards her. He seemed to have lightened up since she'd removed that spirit thing from his back.
The girl makes her way towards a lonely alley, dropping the thing onto the ground. Lacking any sense of mercy, she withdraws her pocket from underneath the cloth sheath on her side. With a swift stabbing motion, her blade becomes drunk with spiritual blood. It was dead, and she felt this time maybe for good. It wouldn't be able to cause anyone else harm. On the beneficial side, she feels that she'd getting better with that unstable sense.

Mei continues to stroll down the street. If anything was learned today, it was that spirits seem to evanesce and coalesce into something strange before departing from this plane. What was it like to die again? The youth couldn't be sure; it hadn't even happened to her once. Not to mention, there seemed to be a broad diversity of different spirits that roamed the world. Since the city's destruction, and even its repair, there's been more infestation of these creatures.
Her thoughts are intervened by her sixth sense. Good, it was a bit more common now. Sometimes there have been times where things had been hidden, but she didn't pick up on it. It was alarmingly strong this time, which causes her to whip her attention to her rear. That man from before, who was mourning the death of his son, was right behind her.
"Hey." He greets immediately. He seems a bit confused as to how she'd known he was there so quickly.
"Wow. Do you sneak up on people often?"
"Sort of. Anyway, just wanted to say, I dunno what you did back there, but shit, my back doesn't even hurt anymore. Are you some sort of miracle healer?" He questions.
Mei seems to be confused. When she got rid of the thing plaguing his back, did that relieve him of the pain it was causing on that district of the body? Not emotional?
"Whatever. Just wanted to say thanks. Here," He tosses her a pack of cigarettes. "You can keep them as a reward." Oh, good. As she looked at these ones, she notices they're the default brand, and not some sort of flavoured fluff. He begins to walk in the other direction, leaving her isolated on the sidewalk, completely and utterly baffled.
Mei decides to light one of the new cigarettes up. They were fresh from the store, the plastic wrapper still intact. Taking a drag, she exhales. The lack of company is hazardous to her, hence the drastic amount of chain smoking she'd been doing as of recent.
Continuing to make her way down the sidewalk, she figures she should go catch up with one of her new acquaintances or contacts. It would be necessary to stabilize her mind after what just happened.
