PostSubject: A Griff-nya?   Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:44 am

Back here again, this time around morning. Safer that way. It had occurred just before the departure to the past, and a time after a series of malicious events. She scowls. The terrain felt gross. The ground was like walking in quicksand because she kept on sinking. It felt mucky and squished and splashed whenever she took a step. It was good that she wasn't wearing socks; just a trashy pair of black, rubber boots with no soles. No wonder that the expanse was so mushy. Remnants of snow were everywhere like a torn up white blanket scantily covering the forest like clothing would a whore. The texture was like walking in slop intended for seniors who had gums in placement of their teeth.

Being adventurous had brought her here. Mosquito was probably rummaging in her bag but she couldn't tell if he was home or slumbering or not. Probably if she departed for a place like this. If anything, she was very prudent for spiritual signatures nowadays while passing through here. It was anyone's question why her outfit looked more like pink pajamas, besides the boots, which were extremely out of place. They did not look like they were hers, either. The large boots adjusted to her foot size as good as water mixed with oil. Sometimes when she was on an adhesive surface it'd make the noise basketball players make when skidding their shoes on the gymnasium floor. Her ears stood erect and her tail remained still, no emotion yet bold enough to reveal her mood.

She says:

“Snow comes and then is washed away, where have I seen this before...”

The shrill, startling clangs of overturned pots had rang throughout the restaurant ostensibly within its entirety, nigh instantaneously turning the heads of many unnerved by the abruptly spawned disturbance. Too swift could a rapid, thundering collection of steps be heard. Doubtlessly, they belonged to the humanoid demon holding a steadfast grip over his managership. The cause? Qualude, gathering himself as he sat pitifully upon the restaurant’s floor. Having yet to fully arrive, the hog-of-a demon already cast a grungy flurry of words in his direction.

“The fuck are you doing?!” he barked as he eyed the scene as the hapless whole it was. A response escaped Qualude birthed of frustration, though crafted not as words, but a dismissive grunt. This accompanied his travels back atop a sturdy pair of feet, green-skinned and equipped with nigh talons once again. A marriage between arrogance and superiority oozed from every crevice so much alike everything else partaking in this miserable existence. Too good was he to treat the small-statured goblin as an equal. What a fool one would be to even suggest notions like ‘equality’ existed.

“I just slipped, is all,” Qualude grumbled, though the ends of his excuse were rudely trampled upon.

“Yeah! ‘Cause you ain’t tall enough to reach anything anymore. But y’ know what? You were yesterday! The fuck did you do? And y’ can’t fly no more. I ain’t got no use for something like you. Get on outta here!” A slew of questions, rhetorical and uninviting proper response with the hasted tongue they were crafted with. Beneath the prying eyes of his encompassing coworkers and the unrivalled belittlement he had been bestowed with, all he could do is clench his teeth before turned abruptly and in a cliché manner, throw his hat onto the floor.

“Fine! I’m too good for the place anyway!” Qualude exclaimed before storming off.

Oh, he was in the bag alright. Not surprisingly, Mosquito could be found relaxing in its benighted confines. Sleeping? Perhaps not, but hardly was his attention pooled within the murky terrain Mei treaded. Her words descended atop him, stirred him not. Though, he would reply, signifying both his presence and his state of being.

“All things come ‘n go, even that pretty white stuff you humans call snow.” It added little and was actually rather dispiriting. Even so, Mosquito had a thing for reminding people of the less finer points of life.

Ice cracks helplessly underneath Mei's feet. Its revenge is she almost slips, but she quickly regains footing. For some reason she finds humour in the comment. There wasn't too much depression due to the snow's lack of itself. She became more fond of summer when she realized how packed full of protein some of those plump bugs could be.

Mei replies:

“Except for me, now that you're around.”

She hears some rustling in the bushes. Suddenly her eyes become like an owl looking curiously into the night. Momentarily she slips behind a tree's coverage. Her ears twitch slightly in response to the apparently distinct noise. Her movements suddenly become sly like a cautious panther.

She asks:

“Do you hear that? Sounds like rustling to me. It could be an animal. It's out of my sensing range if it isn't.”

She peeks over the branch that was hiding her face like a timid child playing hide and go seek. She is a statue as she remains uncharacteristically still and warily watches possible interaction in the near future.

Qualude’s movements were ergodic, pacing seemingly unending. He had arrived home not twenty seconds ago. Perhaps he had realized the purposelessness of his pacing for abruptly, he ceased with what seemed to be the intent of calming himself. Descending into a relatively tranquil moment of stillness, he entered into a domain of brooding, contemplation. “What I would give…” he goblin-esque creature began within a voice hushed, but a low murmur, “to be able to gind those fools into the ground!” The exclamation did little to help his mood, prolonging the duration his eyes traversed the vacant patch of floor ahead. His attention shifted towards what appeared to be a small piece of quartz idling atop the nearby table. Walking towards it, he took hold of it while allowing his gaze to broodingly precipitate over it.

“Kyoko…” The name was said with a contemplative flavour. His hand balled into a fist, concealing the crystal fragment within the fleshy confines of his barricading fingers. Thoughts shifted as a smirk amused at his inward conversation emerged. His hand opened and with it, Qualude was quick to cast a handful of words towards it. “If I’m not supposed to be flippin’ burgers, then you do your job and point me in the right direction.” Nothing. “Well, I guess we’re going up then.”

- - -

“Woah, what’s goin’ on out there?” he inquired, findind his body briefly airborne somewhere amidst the bag’s bedimmed contents. It appeared to be nothing, so Mosquito chuckled briefly at her response. He supposed that was true, though did not offer a reply other than the brief chortle. Not long was it until the rustling of foliage caught both their ears. Mei was the first to comment, permitting himself to climb into view to offer his thoughts.

“Yeah, I heard somethin’.” Mosquito stated, though just as he did, a creature of ostensibly mythical origins revealed itself as it moved forward, apparently oblivious to their presence. Was it? Very doubtful. A hybrid of lion and eagle, wings then spread with the sounding of a forceful unfurling. “An’ there it is.” His eye moved up to Mei’s. “An’ it’s powerful. Yay.”

Mei notably tenses. Her eyes lock firmly onto the eagle hybrid – with the stare of an eagle! Her primal instincts conclude that the avian nature makes it very susceptible to her prey. Her tongue laps both her lips and her left canine as she peculiarly stares as though she were famished.

She says:

“Well, why don't you look at that tweedy bird...”

Drool hangs from her bottom lip like an icicle from a roof. The beast is allowed to continue on by; anything classified as strong by Mosquito was probably dangerous to battle. Miraculously she ate before she came here which was recent. The events are conveniently turned because she hadn't leaped overjoyed into the beckoning jaws of the griffin's beak.

She shakes her head, breaking free from her darkened mind.

“You know, wasn't somebody looking for this thing? I forget their name.”

She begins to walk as she departs from the tree. It looks as though she is beginning to lick her wrist repeatedly but was in fact going into a brief grooming session despite her nonexistent fur. Her other hand, of course, was idling nonchalantly on the hilt of her revolver, which was sticking out of her cloth sheath like a sore thumb.

“Heh. Only you could start a fight with a line like that,” Mosquito said, clearly not particularly worried about the creature ensnared within a moment of unfounded pause.

“Sure was. It’s blood. That’s the guy I was talkin’ to. Needs it to complete a charm of some kind. If we can take that thing, we have a chance at gaining power and power is always good.” A focus razor-sharp shot towards them, notifying any of the two looking upon it that it was not only aware of their presence, it wanted such removed. The sideward glance ripe with enmity was followed by a swift upward leap. The speed it had done so left its figure indistinguishable within an obscuring blur. Its travels overhead would produce the thunderous splintering of wood before a collection of branches would descend from directed above the pair. What horrific strength the creature possessed, having little trouble in tearing the forest apart for the purpose of initiating what it doubtlessly hoped would be the hostile two’s swift demise.

“So a you scratch my back, I scratch yours sorta deal, mm?”

Comments Mei. Her revolver's trigger cocks as she pulls it back into proper placement. Then she stumbles rearwards; the beast had moved with such an abrupt velocity it made even the untouched ground seem like ice. It was her feline grace that maintained her footing. The creature moved at a velocity surpassing her own and therefore she couldn't read its movements.

Mei exclaims:

“Shit!”

Strange, runic markings on her skin begin to glow vibrantly. It isn't blinding and they seem to settle into simply patterned tattoos within moments. Tribal markings adorn the area below her eyes to compliment her primal look. Her perception of time suddenly slows down as she looks at the branches jettisoned towards them. She pulls the gun out of her holster like she was cracking a whip, and fires several rounds towards the approaching woodem armaments that intended on harming them. With her augmented damage the once durable arms would shatter into harmless but annoying sharpnel. She winces; it felt like her face was peppered by a swarm of gnats. Her lips curl into an amused smile.

She complains:

“Doesn't look like I'll be getting my rifle out, nya. Oh well.”

Suddenly she swings her gun in a horizontal arc like she was slashing a sword. Her finger squeezes the trigger at the same time. The bullet launches, but evades the trunk of the tree between them and the beast by inches. The ammunition had literally curved its trajectory and was now looking to clip the creature's wing. Though she wouldn't mind if the round was caught by a more vital area.

“As always,” Mosquito replied. So long ago it had appeared to be that the yokai was scrambling to piece together a potent enough proposition for the young woman to spare him. Interest shifted from finding a means of escape for what, exactly, was there to escape to? The various adventures the two embarked upon were enticing enough to simply go with the flow. Evidence was the situation they were in at that very moment. Though, enticement had quickly transitioned to a lingering fear of his wellbeing with the sight of the creature before them nigh claimed by the very winds themselves. His eyes lacked the legerity required to bare witness to its movements in their entirety. Both of their heads rose with the cries of the overhead, torn bark. Already, however, had Mei rose her energy-soaked firearm to meet the challenge. All Mosquito could do was raise a bestial arm in an effort to shield himself from the flurry of wooden shrapnel.

Soon did she let lose a bullet saturated with adeptness uncomprehensible, its bedding being Mei’s surging energies alone. It arched at an impossible angle and moved with a speed even their prey could not match. Little concern it would have been if not imbued with the virile force birthed from the perfect marriage of spirit and human that was a Hitorinji. Its wing was nearly torn from its physique, though only a portion was turned into a short-lived shower of blood-laced feathers, skin, and bone. A screech was the result before it utilized its final moments in the air to launch a trio of spherical constructs of forceful wind at the pair. Its aim was off, doing little but disrupting the ground surrounding them with washing waves of bone-rattling tremors. It landed on its feet even so, though was required to spend a moment gathering itself.

Gravity was merciless as the rodent bore a grievous stare towards its own. The griffin’s intact wing was drawn in as it readied itself to tear its attackers asunder with its hungering talons and beak athirst for glorious retribution. Though, Mosquito did nothing but continue his steadfast stare as he seemingly simmered with a crimson mist disgorging from his miniscule structure. It was soon to encompass Mei as well, leaving both within its sanguinary embrace. “Yer on, Mei. My strength’s yours,” he stated. The spell’s completion was just in time. Ground torn beneath unbridled feral fury, their assumed demon foe tore towards them, though made sure to dart between and behind trees the forest so graciously provided.

“Hell yeah!”

She takes a step back and grins widely when her bullet punches with the impact of a rushing truck. Her eyes watch carefully as the beast would begin to prepare its next assault. Normally she would not have left opportunity for recovery but today was peculiarly different. The creature had missed its mark. Her arms become flesh bucklers as she attempts to ward away angry debris away from her face.

Smirking she responds:

“That's more like it!”

Mei deposits her gun back into its holster. Her boots squeak like mice as she adjusts her position. It suddenly became like Lucifer had spilled a bucket of blood on her – all of her runic markings suddenly became a deep crimson. Her hair and clothing billows like curtains when they are claimed by sudden winds. The mist had saturated her tattoo-like markings and changed the pigmentation of her golden, feline eye, scarlet.

The moment it charges towards her she suddenly becomes a blur. Her form looks like a linear painting of blinding whites, soft pinks and eye cutting crimsons. She uses her dexterous hand to hand combat to strike the mythical beast in its face with a boulder of a haymaker. While the bone snapping momentum rippled through its face she would become quadrupedal once again to nearly vanish to the nearby tree.

With a cat's agility she pushes herself off with her feet. Apparently sometime while airborne she withdrew her gun. While she moves through the air like an eager torpedo she activates her eye of the mark. This decelerates her view of time and she compromises by letting loose three shots from her revolver. The bullets, bulls, would attempt to gore the bowels straight out of the monster with the strength of burly missiles. The rounds would go through anything in their path regardless if the trajectory was off.

She lands on the ground, skidding to a stop. Her feet leave scars on the ground like heavy tire tracks as she eyes her result.

Hardly were its movements swift enough to avoid the assault deployed by Mei. Mosquito had retreated, taking refuge within her handbag as remaining fastened to its edge required strength he no longer held. What degree of surprise such a visage could reflect was difficult to determine, but certainly did the creature’s eyes catch aflame with it as the human revealed the unrivalled speed she now possessed. What could it do against such speed and precision? Time itself yielded , lagged to Mei’s benefit as she placed the griffin within the sights of the tank-of-a firearm before letting loose a trio of shots. Fractured thunder, eruptions of flame and smoke putting volcanoes to shame; three bullets tore the air asunder, ravaged the towering umber standing between her and the rampaging beast. Regardless of what awaited it, it would not hinder it. That was what the chimera hoped for, but for it, there was no hope. It crashed against the ground, spilling a flux of plasma and earthen quiver.

“Y’ get it?” Mosquito inquired after catching wind of the cries of anguish from both it and the lacerated ground.

The beast's head struggles to crane its attention towards her as she approaches steadily. It croaks a small whine before its head falls limp on the ground once again. Mei watches as its blood caked ribs still manage to rise and fall like waves. Her eyes elongate like an irritated wolf. Her guns click synthetically when she reloads. A few more rounds are placed into the firearm's cylinder. The metal chamber rotates smoothly. Several more shots are taken, making the beast's face look like someone smashed open a jar of strawberry jam all over the ground.

“Yep.”

No longer would the creature draw breath. Her augmented strength enables her to haul the beast over her shoulder. Its size causes fatigue to breath rudely in her face. She scowls bitterly underneath her breath as perspiration crawls down her spine. The being's blood makes her look like she was massacred by an onslaught of crimson paintballs. It looked extremely peculiar, especially on her pink pajamas that were styled with little white bunny rabbits.

Her steps leave imprints in the ground as she walks. Somewhere up in the distance she could see a shack of sorts.

She said:

“I wonder if he's still around. Would suck if he died. Then I wouldn’t be able to get my present.”

The deed was done. “There. That wasn’t so bad,” Mosquito commented as the mythical beast, little more than a mythical corpse, was hauled over her shoulder. Her strength would allow her to do so with relative ease, though required Mosquito to continue to maintain the spell. It had yet to become taxing and doubtless would not for at least long enough for them to make their peculiar delivery.

Mei’s question would soon be answered as they approached a shack. A figure was standing beside it, seemingly unaware of the presences closing in for his back was turned to the two. When close enough, Mosquito would catch his attention with a shout.

“Hey! We brought you that griffin! Right here!” Mosquito exclaimed, though the individual initial response appeared to be simply the slight elevation of his head. His sight fell frontwards, exactly the opposite direction from where Mei and Mosquito had approached from.

“Just leave it there. I’ll be over in a minute,” said the man, voice rather listless, grave, and nigh painfully blunt.

Mei yawns tiredly as she walks over to a random area adjacent. From there she plops the beast down like a giant beanbag. The headless creature lands with a bone cracking thud due to its large weight. More blood continues to leak from the creature like unstable watermains.

Then she sits down next to it. Accidentally she placed her hand down into the puddle of blood that quickly encompassed the griffin's corpse. Elevating her hand she puts the damp fabric of her pajamas into her mouth. She begins to suck the blood out of her sleeve while her irises look around thoughtfully.

She says:

“It's not so bad. I wonder if it'll give me any abilities.”

Her lips broaden into a wide smirk as she eyes the figure somewhere up ahead. Mei suddenly doubles over a little and writhes. Her hands cradle her lower torso like a baby as her hair cascades south. Despite her apparent stomach pains she still has a contorted smile on her visage.

“Whoa, that's some potent shit. . .”

What lingering mists there once were had evanesced after the infernal cadaver wad set down. “Phew…” Mosquito began as he sank back into the depths of the handbag. “Restin’ here. Don’t bug me unnecessarily.” With that, he made himself as comfortable as he could, physique lanced within a coat of red sparkles. There was little else to do besides wait for the apprentice to finish what he was doing.

“You shouldn’t consume that,” he mentioned as he kneeled before the downed creature. His own fingers came into contact with the puddle before drawn upwards and upon a pair of seemingly enigmatic objects. The blood was absorbed after a still moment, producing a subtle glow before dissipating. He presented one to Mei, then dropped another into her purse.

“Hey..! Oh, this it?” Mosquito replied with a voice slightly muffled by the leather walls currently encompassing him. What light trickled in was enough to highlight the small metallic slab of a charm. It appeared to be something one would clip onto a chained bracelet or something similar.

“Yes. The Reedo Charm. It should increase your proficiencies with each of your skills of choice.” With that, he moved back towards the shack and busied himself with something else.

“Hm. Spiffy,” was Mosquito’s response. Climbing from the bag, he lazily slumped over its side as he fondled the miniature version of the charm Mei had received. “Guess that’s it. Not much else t’ do here. We goin’?”

“Mm?”

Mei looks at the object dropped idly into her purse. It had an interesting feel to it from its presence alone. Her attention looms stagnantly like desert heat over her bag as she visually probed the oracular object as its purpose was explained. She taps her lip briefly as he ends the conversation and retreats back into the confines of his shack.

She replies:

“Not quite yet. I wonder if he has anything else for us to do.”

She takes several steps forward. “Hey guy! You make pretty things. Do you have any more tasks for us that may warrant more shinies?”

There wasn't any more additions to her query. Mei would simply stand there and wait semi-patiently for a response from the apprentice. The air was cold, though. It bites at her with the viciousness of a hungry crocodile. Her legs waver like rubber and her canines chatter like vigorous castanets as she begins to feel like an oversized popsicle. She frowns a little.

Though maybe the guy had some sort of task that would allow her to augment the abilities of this little charm.

“Uh…” Mosquito stuttered as feeling’s of reluctance born of a dispiriting discomfort with the idea of beleaguering the man further. He paused, however, seemingly stuck with a paralysing recollection. He turned, directing his stagnant, rather apathetic gaze towards the two. Mosquito looked on in silence, awaiting his response with baited breath.

“Yes, there is. There’s something that need’s attention, but time’s fleeting. My pet Fluffy’s being harassed by some trolls a ways northwest from here. Do me that favour and I’ll do you two another.”

"You don't say..."

Mei's feline ears twitch and her tail sways around. For some reason she feels sympathetic when she hears the name of the pet. The pseudonym was something usually used to name a cat or a kitten. "Nya, I'll dispatch the trolls Mr. Vader, don't you worry!" She chirps peculiarly as she turns around. Momentarily she shifts her position to raise her hand in a small wave if the apprentice lurked outside of the house. If no avail she would continue to skip along route of apparent mirth.

The ground was like a ribbon of brown. The snow seemed to be not as common as they drew deeper into the forests. The chill, however, does not leave her. She sneezes and wipes away a thin cylinder of snot that hangs from her nose like a man on a noose. "Where's fur when you need it..."

Footsteps blatantly imply the presence of another. Though twigs and foliage is broken like a skateboarding wipeout as she treks through the more bushy areas of the forest. Eventually she would emerge and strays into an auburn path. She looks around curiously. With all of the strength she could muster she would haul the bike from out of the bushes. The little bell would sing its ring like a bird as she squeezes the appropriate mechanism to do so. She gets onto the seat as she began to bike down the long, cold path.

She sees a figure up ahead. Wordlessly she would begin to approach her. Sora is overall oracular with her behavior, but with the glimmer in her eye it was like she seen something familiar, or like a brief gleam of recognition.

It appeared he had yet to get the reference. Visage tinged with puzzlement, he watched the two as they gradually crept out of view. A manikin lost within musing winds, he looked on. Humble footsteps, modest shuffles grew in audibility. His austere, tranquil stare appeared fixated, even with the arrival of a mildly familiar presence. Perhaps three, three and a half feet did this creature amount to. Green-hued and long eared, it adorned an umber vest lined with a gold trim and a pair of bedimmed, denim jeans tattered at their ends, which ceased between the knee and ankle. A leather belt lay idle, his only other piece of clothing; but more than sufficient it was if his purpose was to appear ‘decent’ within the now more ‘civilized’ Hell. A stone, an ovoid crystalline structure laid within the eye of an upturned palm, alive with a reserved, pale glow. His own eyes, crimson paints embellishing the irises, lit upon their dissipating forms.

“Qualude,” the man said, having allowed an eye of his own to descend atop the spirit. “I see the Fate Finder is working.”

“Y-Yeah…” Qualude began. “I was just coming to see you about this thing, but it’s responding to something now. It never did that before, so I thought it was busted.” Though no response was made, none appeared necessary. Even so, a speckling of amusement tinged his face momentarily.

“Trolls?” Mosquito inquired as the two pressed forward. “Now we’re fightin’ trolls? You sure about this? Last time it was just against one thing, but now we’ll be takin’ on more than one! Hope this all be worth it.” The last portion was little more than a grumble.

“I wouldn't sweat it.” Mei responds as she continues to walk. Some frozen ground cracks sharply when pressured by her feet. “Since when have trolls been smart, anyway?” She shrugs arrogantly and maintains a cat-esque smile upon her lips as she continues to traverse. She falls silent and looks forward; she'd thought she seen something up in the distance. The wind howls like a wolf and wraps a chill around her spine. This motivates her to move quicker for herself to warm up in these drastic temperatures. Her hands plunge into her pockets as she continues forward. The figure up ahead is both monstrous but there appeared to be a feminine figure accompanying it.
“Hey, that looks a lot like another one of those chicks I went to school with.” Mei says boldly as she accelerates her pace.

The brunette up ahead is quietly standing next to the beast. From a brown bag plastered with advertisements of whatever fast food joint she got it from she withdraws a little white bag. Her eyes are abnormally empty like pool table sockets. She took out a chicken nugget from the little bag and tosses it towards the chimera. It picks it out of the air with its large mouth and swallows the inorganic meat block whole. It nudges her further to provoke more food. She simply tosses the entire bag and it engulfs the entirety of it. She extends her hand and pets the hybrid creature on top of its head. A wayward glance is tossed towards Mosquito and Mei. Her expression remains the same and it's difficult to distinguish her thoughts.

He was at a loss for words. Mei hardly seemed bothered, pressing forward with her usual unshakeable air of confidence. Oh well. He allowed the thought to escape him entirely, intoxicated by the idea of finding a comfortable position in her handbag once again. It brought nigh glee. Perhaps being carried about while hiding out of sight brought a childish exhilaration with it, or maybe the yokai was so lazy, he found doing so with perfection enticing. Rummaging was heard as he shifted about while Mei pattered him with words of recognition. “Someone you know? Oh, that’s wonderful. You’ll have t’ tell me about her.” It was not sarcasm that tinged the words, but just a hint of dismissal. It appeared he was not entirely content with coming out, but would rather remain in the wondrous laying position he had finally settled into. Oblivious he was to this girl and the chimera adjacent to her.

Mei narrows her eyes a little to survey the girl and the monster more. “Oh wait, it's not just her there. She's got a friend; at least its mane looks kind of fluffy.” She says dryly as she frowns in disappointment. “I think that might be the pet he was talking about. I can't see why trolls would even bother to harass something as... entertaining as that.” Her voice is marked with the rough condescension of a bored princess as she continues onward. Eventually they would come across the beast and the woman. Only about a fifteen foot distance separated them at this point. “Hey! Fancy seeing you here.” She would address. Though, would they be intervened?

Sora resumes her attention towards the voice. There is only apathy apparent on her face as she turns her attention back towards the griffin. Her gestures appear to be enigmatic albeit simultaneously cold like the passing winter wind. After a fat pause she took out something from the basket idling over the edge of her bike's handlebars. Her hand withdraws a block of sticky note and upon the current front slip would be neatly written kanji. It wrote: 'Mei?' Since it was bold and took up the entire note it wasn't too difficult to see even from that range. At all times the girl's eyes stiletto whatever she's looking at. Her query appears to be her only sympathy.

She was not alone. “Mm.” Mosquito replied while stretching one bestial leg, allowing his tail to snake about for only but a moment before it settled upon the bag’s conforming floor. The final portion of her observation, however, birthed enough interest to urge him from the bag. A mumble, more of a grunt passed, though he made no movement. It was after Mei had delivered her greeting did they begin to climb over the bag’s side. He looked upon the scene with an air of reluctance, as if woken within the midst of the night to bare witness to an anxious toddler and the doodle he had drawn up.

“THAT’S Fluffy?” Mosquito questioned, taken aback by the titanic difference in appearance between what he had imagined and what was actually there. The toddle had, apparently, drawn a whopper of a doodle. Shifting his gaze slightly sideways pit his focus upon a girl holding a pad of paper to the pair. He blinked, not entirely sure what to make of the situation.

While nodding she would begin to speak. “It's me, mm.” She seemed to find the delay it took the female to do that a little bit particular. Overall she seems to be familiar with the sticky note based conversation. Mei's ears would twitch to assure that she picked up on a noise. It was something everyone could probably detect. It was but a sore thumb that stuck out. Regardless of whether or not their eyes pried the sound she would consciously alert her senses to do their job. She couldn't pick up anything spiritual but her sixth sense nudges her to be wary about hidden units. “I think we've got company guys. Something hidden is near. And you know what Mosquito, I can't say that's what I was expecting. I'm a bit disappointed.” It was impossible to tell what was there but she had a guess. “So what are you even doing here, chick?” Mei questions as she surveys their vicinity.

Sora does not seem to be exceptionally prudent about the situation. Her hand would continue to stroke the end of the creature's muzzle as she looks widely towards Mei and Mosquito. Whilst Mei seemed cautious she herself just stood there in front of the possible target like she was hired to be bait for a lion. Her brow elevates in slight... possible confusion. She crumples up the auburn bag and tosses it somewhere off into the bushes. It sounded like it hit something that was more resilient than a feeble bush, but she seems to pay no mind to it. She flips the block of sticky note to another slip. It read: 'Searching.' It was very vague and didn't seem to be for the purpose of satiating curiosity. Though strangely all of these things seemed to be written before this encounter. It was as though her responses were automated and limited to vague answers to be anywhere near a sufficient response.

His gaze had yet to waver. The scene’s oddity provoke the rodent into inspecting both with a sense much more eccentric. While the chimera sparked little in terms of surprise, it was a different story for the one with an apparent affinity for sticky notes. Blatantly obvious was her abnormality, drawing his jaw subtly agape as his awareness continued to disgorge and submerse the mute’s physique, ever-still awash within an unshakable equanimity. He said nothing and would not, perhaps could not remove his stare from the girl until Mei mentioned that they were not alone.

“Huh? Uh…no, we’re not,” Mosquito replied, though Mei’s acquaintance already engendered a plan to draw whatever was hidden out into the open. The bag she had tossed certainly did hit something, though nothing immediate happened. Though, soon after emerged a gremlin of a creature, dancing about as a trio of others joined him. “Sooo…” Mosquito started. “Is this what he meant by trolls?” Flames flickered into being, tracing the contours of their failing arms before they encircled them all with a towering, swirling wall of flame.

A large sweat drop adheres to the back of Mei's head when the creatures make their appearance. She looks around and seems to be confused by the situation. Her smile is humouring and her brow is elevated as she looks slowly towards Mosquito. Nevertheless she puts her hand onto the handle of her revolver once again.

“I guess so.”

Then a sudden emergence of flame bleeds from the source. Snow begins to melt around them and the ground burns as the circle of towering flame is drawn around them. It looks as though the sunset was captured within flickering, serpentine tongues. Mei braces herself and scowls at the sudden heat; even though it was a little relieving temporarily because it was so hot.

“Holy shit! I can't see. Oh wait, yes I can.”

She immediately corrects herself. She sees the aura of one of the trolls from behind the conflagration. Mei aims her revolver with both hands at one of the monsters. She unleashes two rounds because she was unsure of where on the body it would hit. After those initial shots she took a deep breath and tattoos began to radiate on her body again. Her artifact was now activated.

“Sora, hide behind Fluffy or whatever.”

After her orders she would pop a few more rounds into the revolver before licking her lips. She looked happy to engage combat once again.

When the ground around them is cooked up she merely squints a little. Sparks from the wild fire dance around her and sting her skin but she doesn't flinch. There is no grumble, no whine, and there definitely is no verbal communication. When she was told to take coverage behind the beast she didn't even bat an eye towards the placement of the suggestion. She turns around and peculiarly begins to face the vehement flames.

Her hand begins to glow. A smooth blend of white and purple light circles her hand in several spheres. Sora's eyes close briefly as she focuses. What was glowing on her hand seemed to be a tattoo of sorts; it was shaped as a scorpion. Its pincers rested on the back of her hand and the rest of it coiled up her arm. This only happened when she initiated the spell.

Opening up her hand a card would elevate and float from her palm. She crushes it in her grasp and the bits of the card fly like glass – and sound like it to. Her eyes seem to glow.

“Seraphim.”

They would be able to see a silhouette near one of the walls of the fire. It was a feminine figure that drew some sort of long armament from its side. It appeared to be a dignified female with eyes that glowed a red as deep as that of the fire. The katana formed from leaves and solidified to the point where it was like metal. She takes a large swipe at the face of one of the trolls before dashing rearwards. She is dangerously silent as she appears to await something.

“Trek wisdom's occult plane.”

A nigh transparent mist surrounds both her and the familiar. Suddenly it would be augmented greatly. Her words are whispered in a hush, barely audible. The only thing that was said firmly was the summon's pseudonym. It was like there was something preventing her voice's volume to escalate any higher. Winds whip around violently as Seraphim adopts a traditional stance, holding the katana with both hands.

Two shots rang out like unpitying thunder and to no surprise, that unfortunate creature found itself torn asunder before what remained plummeted towards the ground. Its kind came to an abrupt halt, each glance pooling on top of their fallen comrade. Warnings were cast towards Mei’s apparent friend, though no suggestion was taken. A shame for now, each would cast away their foolhardiness and jocose flavour. Though, already had another fallen to the blade of a spirit? Mosquito looked towards it, the mists enveloping it familiar. His stare leapt to its assumed conjurer just as the remaining two creatures summoned what power they could, letting it loose in the form of a torrent of cauterizing flame. She had spoke, though ostensibly with difficulty. Regardless, the streams of ravaging fire thirsted for convergence upon the new arrival.

Mei looks extremely surprised. Her mouth is drawn agape to demonstrate this as she gawks towards Sora. Her expression slowly settles into a grin as she looks back towards some of the remaining signatures. She runs her lanky finger underneath her noise briefly before gripping the revolver with both hands once again.

“I getcha. Alright then, let's have some fun and play with the kiddies.”

She does as she does last time. The aura of the creature radiates and she targets it by these means. She squeezes the trigger to unleash several more vicious shots towards one of the trolls. The flames obscure her aim a little; her eyes were not capable of visually piercing things that blind the eye. She was only able to operate in a lack of light, not an abundance in it. The shots would not be immaculately aimed but would hit like elephants on steroids if they were to hit. The situation would crane in their direction if she was able to deter at least one of them from aiding with the collaborative inferno.

The summon is currently as silent as her master. Her brow twitches when the creatures began to channel a large attack. As a spirit limited to specific abilities she didn't have any senses to aid her with this but her sight. It seemed to prove fruitful as black wings sprout from her back as fast as fertilized weeds. Her enhanced speed allows her to move at an incredible rate of speed. With but one beat of her wings she ascends high into the air to elude the flickering collaborative ribbon of virulent flame. She could be seen by those inside of the wall's of flame with her current height. Her head tilts to the side when she sees one of the troll's presumably picked off.

“Behold my demonic technique, you pieces of shit.”

Some remaining flames would embrace her but she makes a broad, vertical swipe with her sword. From her forearm and jettisoned through her sword in a large arc would be a crescent moon shaped blade of lightning. If one of the troll's, one of the additions to the technique's power, were taken out by Mei, the wave of electricity would eat through and overpower the fire. The chaotic branches of electricity would explode and fade as quickly as they came. The blaze would backfire when it is pushed back and increases the power of the surge of power, leaving nothing but cauterized, charred ground and bare skeletons within its wake. Her wings flap steadily as she eyes the hopeful result.

Mosquito was left to look upon their smouldering surroundings as an unsettling quiet washed throughout the area. All appeared ensnared within a lull timeless, unending. Seemingly, the silence proceeding the storm was broken by the rat demon’s commentary. “…Holy shit. What just happened.” The question was rhetorical, obviously; though even with a basic understanding of what had ensued, there was difficultly in accepting the sudden appearance of a merry flock of trolls dancing amidst their whimsically summoned flames before being wiped out by a girl they, or at least he, had just met.

The winds conjured from the impact blew out the flames around them. Since their spell was no longer being conjured after their death no power satiated them. A black circle is all that remains in place of the wall of fire. Mei seems to be stunned; after all, after she'd taken a few shots all she could decipher but moments after is essentially an electrical bomb going off. Some heat and sparks ignite the trees around them. Looking around, she clears her throat.

“Okay then.”

Slowly she deposits the revolver into its holster. She eyes the demon that was stationary in the air before looking towards Sora. Then she 'shifts her gaze' towards Fluffy. Fluffy was just about as resilient to emotion as Sora appeared to be. An awkward and a little intimidated smirk mars her face as she scratches behind one of her feline ears.

“Wes should bring Fluffy here back to that guy before more come along. Wouldn't want Sora here to exert herself.”

She speaks with a touch of sarcasm.

Sora turns around and looks towards Mei. She doesn't respond to the girl's comment and begins to move onto her bike. She doesn't withdraw any stickynote to 'communicate' with the others as of yet. Halfheartedly she gestures towards Seraphim. Sparkles move around her like someone dumped a jar of glitter over her head. This a lot of fatigue that she had barely spent with her actions. Her honed proficiency with the moves made the drain minimal at the least.

Seraphims lower a little before dispersing her wings. She lands on the ground and takes several steps towards Sora. She begins to kneel in front of her. She bows her head to her apparent superior.

“Is there anything you need, Sora-dono?”

After her question Sora appears to gradually shake her head. She withdraws a stickynote from her basket and holds it up in front of her familiar. The demon seems to be uncharacteristically obedient at the order. It read: 'Dinner soon?'

The pair’s surprise was more than apparent, though little did it stir the one Mosquito would soon know as Sora. Mei’s suggestion was one of reason, one that quietly dismissed the storming surprise this individual had birthed. Power ran rampant within the most unexpected of places. Surely, fate was not without a sense of humour.

Sora’s summon came to rest just ahead of her, displaying her obedience by requesting if there was anything the girl needed. A note had been made and held up in the same fashion as before, which stuck the rodent as odd. “Wait a sec,” Mosquito started, never timid when it came to expressing his opinions. His attention fell skyward to Mei. “She’s doing that note thing again.” Right, this individual could both see and here him, he was sure of that; judging from the feats she had just executed. He looked upon her directly. “I heard you speak eariler. What’s with them post-it notes?”

Mei simply observes when the demon displays its obedience. She identifies the strength of the demon via kankaku and finds it almost overwhelming. It was extremely sinister and is contrary to the light nature of Sora herself. She seen this but a few weeks ago with that male. Nowadays she didn't mind the method of combat which sucked for the poor dimwitted soul from before. Though mentally she jots that at least Sora didn't claim to be capable of fighting by herself. Though she didn't speak at all to begin with.

“Mm. That's a good question. Back in highschool you took singing lessons I recall. The note deal seems uncharacteristic.”

Mei pushes her hands into her pockets and looks to the duo before them. Questions awaited answers.

Sora looks over. It only takes moments before her attention retreats back towards the ground ahead of her bike. She tosses the block of stickynote into the basket before loosely gripping onto the handlebars of her bike. Then she looks expectantly towards Seraphim. The demon rises from her kneeling position. By now her eyes had lost their luminescence and their bodies' discarded the translucent mist. She greets Mosquito and Mei with green eyes.

“You know Sora, so you'd know that she almost became an official singer. She didn't pass because of an accident that damaged the tissue of her throat. She can only talk in a hush now because of this. Since then her own goals have moved from their original course.”

The brunette remains silent as her familiar does the talking. Her voice is dignified and authoritative despite how she was just kneeling before a cosmetically inferior race.

Mei’s commentary revealed that at a time within the past, this individual showed an interest in singing. No room was there for timorousness if one truly thirsted for such a carrier, a fact apparent to even a yokai such as himself. Her retainer moved to elaborate following a purely gestural exchange. Her definitive voice composed a story of fractured goals and dreams laced with an underlying, ridiculing irony. His eyes did not deceive him. She was definitely one capable of performing the elysian healing arts. Could she not invoke healing upon herself?

“Oh,” Mosquito replied without a shred of sympathy. The response was more matter-of-fact, uttered as if that was just how things were. “Doesn’t that just beat all. A healer’s spells can’t affect themselves excludin’ a few. Your restorative healing exclusive to yerself wasn’t enough.” He paused, permitting a doubtless duration of festering ire to emerge to those with the assumption that was all there was to his reply. “Good thing I got the same type a magic, eh? Since y’ helped us out an’ all, I’m willin’ t’ lead ya a hand.”

Mei blinks a few times. She seems confused when Mosquito talks about the healing arts only working for other people. She lets her hands rest on the back of her head as she continues to observe.

“Huh. Funny how that works.”

She didn't seem to have anything else to say about the matter. She too didn't seem extraordinarily sympathetic, ether. Only Mosquito would know the reason why. It was the same reason she had no concern when dealing with a group of flame wielding trolls. Her phone vibrates in her pocket and plays her ringtone. It was a familiar one at that. <.<

“Erugh, at a time like this, Sakuya?”

Mei grumbles as she flips open her texting keyboard.

Sora's head raises a little at the offering. She doesn't seem to respond to how everyone had little sympathy in the matter and seemed to suspect from the initial cold shoulder that there was a reason behind it. It is confirmed to her when Mosquito brings up his own affinity in the supportive arts.

She herself appears to be lost at words. There isn't even a tap once for no or tap twice for a yes. Her eyes are wide and her face looks exceptionally pale; there is no verbal response of course. Seraphim clears her throat to try to bring attention towards her instead.

“Murakami-dono would want that if it's possible.”

She takes several steps towards her master and pokes her in the throat with her slender index finger. Her touch is still warm from the lightning's embrace and gives a static shock as if she'd rubbed her feet against carpet before touching Sora. The brunette would wince but is receptive.

“The problem is here, in the larynx. The vocal chords are ruptured and can only move enough to allow her to whisper. I don't know if her habits will change but you'll forever have allies if you do this for her.”

Her voice is firm, not emotionless. She seems to be intellectual and critical to some degree but positive currently. What a dignified woman.

“True that,” Mosquito said in response to Mei’s initial utterance. “Support magic’s a selfless branch an’ the spells are designed t’ reflect that.” He appeared intent on sharing that interesting tidbit of information. Though, Mei would soon come to deal with Sakuya, apparently, who chose a rather incontinent time to sent her a message. Not that it was bothersome. It appeared other things were on Sora’s mind, the kinds of things that stretch your eyes wide with a surprise bordering fright. She was speechless, evident as her spirit became her voice. Instruction followed, a highlighting finger stretched towards what could be defined as the problem area.

“Calm yerself, it’s no problem,” Mosquito began as he drifted from the bag, tossing a glance Mei’s way briefly. “I’ll be back in a sec.” His movements placed him just in front of the girl, his eyes already alight with his characteristic, carmine energy. Extending his hand, he allowed his bestial digits to unravel. From nothingness came tainted brilliance, a crimson, ovoid field of radiance encompassing her throat specially. Ever-present was that self-assertive, slightly impish grin. Delighted he appeared to be when utilizing this magic.

Mei briefly types up a message and sends it off to Sakuya. She closes the phone back up and puts it into her pajama pocket. After the interruption she would become comparatively attentive again. After Seraphim's speech she escalates her brow curiously.

“Ruptured larynx?”

She seems a little confused but wasn't spared much time to make a query about it. There isn't a lot of concern in her voice and she seems to be aware prior that Mosquito was easily capable of mending this. Her eyes continue to observe the crimson light that governed Sora's neck as the rodent wordlessly initiated the spell.

She goes and sits on a rock. Her chin rests on top of her palm as she watches the familiar process.

She is unable to make any sort of sound, especially when restorative powers envelope her throat. Her eyes knife Seraphim to stop poking her in the neck. The spirit seems to understand and backpedals a few feet away to give the girl space. The oracular red radiance is familiar to her which was why she did not appear to be alarmed.

Sora places her own hand gently on her throat. Her svelte fingers caress the skin; she feels the abnormalities of the voice box begin to lessen. The incredible quick healing process immediately makes her cough. It looked like the first time she'd been healed by something like this and irony strikes again. The feeling is a little bit more than a scratch in her throat. This makes her cough and double over. When she recover she takes deep breaths. No longer is her breathing coarse like aged grinding stones.

“Mei..?”

She looks over to Mei who was seated upon a rock. The statement seemed to be just testing her voice. Her tone is still mild and gentle but no longer seems restricted and caged in. Her expression seemed to be blank until at last the edges of her lips curl up to form a small smile.

“I'm in your debt.”

The brunette says to Mosquito. Her voice was actually suitably soft unlike you-know-who.

Hardly did he mind the sudden expulsions of moist air, though an instinctual wince did come to pass. It failed to disrupt his concentration, so he could finish with relative swiftness. He withdrew his hand and gradually drifted rearward. His spirited smile persisted, complete with its usual louche dressings. Her words were spoken as if nothing unfortunate had every occurred. “Eh, I wouldn’t worry ‘bout it,” he replied as he hovered just over his usual mode of transportation. “Uh, yup,” Mosquito breathed while sinking into the bag with a swift descent. “Guess now that that’s over with, we should keep on goin’.”

“Yeah?”

Mei answers to her name seemingly thinking that the girl actually had wanted her attention. She blinks widely when she awaits some sort of query. Then she scoffs to herself when she realizes her name was just said for some sort of voice test. The ivory haired youth things that a 'Wow I can talk'? Would have sufficed. Her arms cross underneath her chest.

“Good. I'm glad you've felt the love Sora. He also brought back my family.”

Her tone is nonchalant. She stands up from her position and dusts off her hands as if they'd done a job well done. Judging by the incinerated trolls and eviscerated griffins they definitely had. Her feline eye reflects some peculiar light and her other remains behind her silk eye patch. Nobody had yet to ask about her status. She contemplates about the reason why.

“Let's go, then. We'll escort Fluffy back. You can pedal ahead and we'll catch up, mm.”

She stretches her arms vertically before beginning to walk in the direction of the shack. Fluffy follows along after she instructively gestures for the beast to follow along.

“I'll be going now.”

Seraphim closes her eyes. Her figure turns into energy before swirling into a vortex that suddenly opens up adjacent to them. Its colours are occult; purple and black, like someone had put licorice into a blender. Eventually both this and the familiar dissipate from view. Before sher went she at least seemed a little bit happy for her master. It was in question at this point truly how much the spirit enjoyed her company.

Sora gives a solid nod. She doesn't seem to pay heed to her spirit's exit. There is no suspicious eye towards Mei even though she had both a tail and feline ears. Her feet push against the bike's pedals and she begins to nimbly move up the coarse forest path and also towards the small shack in the distance.

“Uh…” A breath, words fated to be never found, was the beginnings to Mosquito’s response. “Oh yeah. Guess I did.” Had the matte slipped his mind? One would imagine reviving someone’s family from the dead would persist at least a little while. “What can I say? Just like usin’ magic.”

With Sora’s summon taking her leave, they would begin to make their way back to the dark blacksmith’s apprentice. He was still there, however possessed the company of a rather small-statured, goblin-of-a creature. The griffin had long-since caught the man’s scent and upon seeing him, took to the air before descending directly to his side. Much like how one would shower their pet dog with attention, he did the same to this apparent mythical beast. The assumed demon to his side nearly lost his balance with the creature’s forceful landing, casting an annoyed eye towards the pair.

“Hey, is that..?” Mosquito started as he caught wind of the green-skinned entity. “It is! Qualude! What you doin’ up here?” No immediate response. The goblin tossed a curious glance towards the rodent, though sight of it sparked no familiarity. The delight tinging the rat’s face lessened somewhat as the silence spoke volumes. “Y’ don’t remember me?” Leaping from the bag, he took a spot adjacent to him. “I’ll give y’ a hint. Name starts with an ‘em’.”

Qualude blinked. “Buddy, you got me confused with someone else,” he replied, doing little but spawning an awkward silence between the two. Though, puzzlement had plagued him for how did he know his name?

“Thank you. You both saved me some time today,” said the smith, ignoring the previous conversation that evidently was going nowhere. “Let me see your charms. I’ll make an adjustment to them for your benefit.”

“Oh, uh…” Mosquito stuttered. “Mei, mine’s in yer bag still. Can y’ hand that to’em?”

Mei watches the conversation that goes on between Mosquito and the gremlin looking creature. With wide eyes she would look as the two demons communicated. When the green creature calls Mosquito buddy the feline girl snorts hysterically.

“Called you buddy.”

Then she refers to the question Mosquito made after the apprentice's humble demands. She reaches into her bag and fishes out the charms from its confines.

“Oh yeah. Sure.”

Several steps are taken forward and a prudent eye is moved towards Qualude. She hands the apprentice the charms for him to begin the process from before. She ignores the adhesive awkward silence. Then she hears footsteps approaching from the shack's rear. Immediately her eyes pick up the misty aura that surrounds the individual. When this person reveals themselves to be another long haired brunette, a female, she seems surprised.

“...Who the hell are you?”

“Cripes... Just my luck. Stumbling on a group of... Qualude?”

Kyouko looks curiously towards the green creature. Her stern tone of voice raises when she states the name. She briefly looks downward, sort of between her legs, for no apparent reason before looking amongst the group. Dismissively she tends to Qualude.

“Yeesh, what are you doing here? Especially with all of these shady characters. Anyone give you lip lately..? If so, I'll kill'em. Simple.”

Amusedly Mei looks towards her.

“Interesting atmosphere you've got there.”
