Jazz Sonata Empty
PostSubject: Jazz Sonata   Jazz Sonata EmptySun Mar 20, 2011 6:00 pm

It was an effort of Roshi's to make sure he could understand all of human culture, so that he could blend into it, also it proved to be a rather fun diversion at times. That was why he found himself having drifted down into a small jazz bar. It was a dark dingy place with smoke clouding up the dank interior. He would pretend to cough as if the smoke offended him somehow; though, he was an Oni which meant that the smoke hardly effected his lungs. He would move towards the back of the place and take a seat in one of the booths. The odd melodies of the musicians on stage sounded oddly pleasant too him, so he would hardly notice the arrival of a waitress. He was brought out of his daze and just ordered a thing of Bourbon, then he would lean back and relax listening too the odd melodies drifting through the bar.

I stop outside the door to the small bar and look up at the neon light that flickers a little, before looking at the yellow post-it with a name and address and time on it. Seeing that I was at the right place I put the note into the my inside pocket as I enter the smoky dark place with music playing. Walking through dark to the "meeting place" in the back of the bar, was I adjusting my tie when I see the big guy in the back booth getting his order taken by a cute little waitress. Take of my coat and set down at the other side of the booth, "I would like a scotch and a vodka martini for the lady." She about drops note pad when I get her attention and the little pixie that table flies up onto the table waves at her before she giggles.
"Oh sorry... sir I didn't see the two of you there."
I give her a smile, "It is ok cupcake we get that a lot." With the waitress gone, I lean back and cross my legs, "Man I had a hell of a day. I tracked that "little yokai" we been looking for down into the subway... well by the time I found it, it wasn't little anymore. Damn thing was as big as a dragon. It eat Fay whole and I had to cut her out of it. So you have any luck today?" I don't really ever look at the guy and the small pixie lays on the table with her head resting on her arms with a leg in the air moving with sound of the music.

He was resting his eyes and only letting the slow rythem of the piano keys before hearing the creak of leather and wood announcing the arrival of others. His eyes would snap open to reveal a pixie and what he could only call a tomboy sitting in front of him. He listened to her rattle off about tracking down a Yokai spirit, but he was a little confused since he didn't know this girl at all. "I think you may have me confused with somebody else." He would say just loud enough over the ambient music. Roshi wondered in the back of his mind if this girl was one of those spirit hunters that were rumored to hunt down spirits. He was interrupted from saying anything further by the arrival of their drinks. "I guess though I wouldn't mind having some company until the person you are to actually met with comes in. The name is Roshi by the way." He told her.

I blink for a moment and lean in to get closer look at the guy when he informs me that I must have confused him with someone else. My attention goes to the waitress when she returns with the drinks, I give her a smile as she sit the drinks down, "Thinks baby doll." My eyes follow her as she walks away before returning to guy across from me as he intrudes himself. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr. Roshi. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I am Fate Valentine."

The pixie that hovering at the edge the martini glass that is as tall as she is, looks up for a moment, "Oh I like that one!"

I give her a closed eye small as she tries to drink from the glass, "Me too. I read it in a book and thought it had a nice ring to it. Here let me help you out." I reach over to use my finger to flip her feet over her head causing her to fall into the glass.

"Hey! What..." Her wings start to turn red as she was about to get mad be realized that it was going to work. "Thanks!" A big smile come across her little face and she lays in the martini like she was in a bath.

"And this is my little assistant Fay. So what brings you to a play like this Mr. Roshi? Business or just kicking back for the evening?"

He let his hands wrap around the glass containing his Bourbon and let it sit there for awhile. "Its no problem since it is not everyday that a interesting girl like yourself shows up introducing herself like this." Roshi responded back as he picked up the drink and took a little sip of it. His attention was diverted too the pixie who had been dunked into the alcohol, and he would just cock an eyebrow at it. Roshi would stay silent however as he took another small sip of his bourbon. "I just like wandering around the city. Humanity is such an unusual creature, that you can be constantly surprised, like finding this little place in the wall. Its quite the pleasant place." He said.

I look around the bar after hearing what he had to say about it, "Interesting point of view you have there. I'm not sure if I can agree with it." Resting my elbow on the table, cupping my cheek in my hand as I lift my glass to eye level to look at the liquid inside of it. "Humanity always seems to find a way to disappoint me in the end so I have give up on them." My glaze looks pass the glass at Roshi, "Or maybe I'm the one that is disappointing for giving up on something I find hopeless?" A big smile comes to my face and I set the glass back down onto the table, "But who cares about all of that! So Mr. Roshi is it just a hobby of your to talk about philosophy with people you just meet? Become you don't look like the type to do it for a living."

Roshi gave a small little smile at hearing what Fate said. There were certain aspects that he could recognize with his own experiences concerning humanity, but they were simply more fascinating then the demons of Onitoshi. He leaned back in the booth and regarded the tomboy when she asked him about philosophy. "Indeed, I don't care much about having a philosophic discussions much, but I do very much like doing things that are fun. Sex, drugs, rock and roll, and even good old fights, particularly the last part." He would say with a little grin towards her. "But what about you? You didn't just pop in here for meeting with somebody, and from what you said before your life seems filled with some measure of excitement, unless you like mucking about in the subway tunnels looking for rogue yokai to hunt down."

I let out a soft laugh, "Well when you say it like that I guess it can sound exciting, but fighting is only entertaining if there is a chance of losing and they don't die after a few hits..."

"She ev has a feal o her sooo she can't get any mtrongerrr!" The little pixie, who was clearly dunk as her limbs hang over the edges of the martini glass.

Looking over at her for just a moment before rolling my eyes, "Fay it isn't very lady like to have your legs spread like that. People will think you're a slut."

"Oh yah! Woll jor de flut!" Her head falls back and a sleep bumble starts to come out of her mouth.

My face twist for a moment before I get back to his question, "Well to answer your question, I wouldn't be here if I had much choice in it. Would rather be in Arden reading a nice book then running around in a cold subway after some idiot that thought he would steal from us and get away with it. Really what idiot gambles his soul then thinks he can just run off with it when he loses. I would be sitting in my normal spot where it is nice and warm if wasn't for that. At less the company isn't too bad up her so it isn't a total lost." I pick up my glass, "To hmm sex, rock and roll and hope of finding someone wroth the time of fighting?"

"True enough, fighting humans is boring when you got them outclassed most of the time same with weaker spirits. They have developed methods of overcoming their physical limitations though, which does make fighting them not completely one sided." He would say. Roshi's attention turned too the little pixie who was now completely wasted. He took the little drunks ramblings in stride as he turned towards Fate, and he made careful note of her twisted expression. He would more then likely have to avoid this topic of conversation in the future with her. "It looks like he was a fool indeed, but at least he got a beautiful woman to send him off into the afterlife, rather then some ugly animalistic demon." He would say giving a soft chuckle at her toast. Roshi picked up his own glass and clinked it against hers. "To sex, rock and roll, and hope for a good fight along the way."

"Yeah she is cute for a little pixie isn't she." I add to his beautiful woman comment as the glasses clink together and I bring the edge to my lips before I paused

"Sex and Rook doll!" The little pixies body lifts up with her arms in the air for a moment before falling back down into the glass.

I pull the glass away from my lips. "Hey so you been wondering around this city for a while right? Maybe you can help me out a little, I've been trying to get some info on some rumors I have been hearing around in Onitoshi about a group of powerful demons that have been doing some stuff up here for a while." The glass comes down to meet the table once again. "The only think I have gotten so far is they show up after the Keeper vanished."

Roshi just gave a little smile at the antics of the pixie. He could understand that it would be amusing to have such a creature around all of the time. Roshi leaned back and listened to her request, and his smile vanished. "Its not all that hard to hear such rumors all through the spirits that live in this city, most of them are so wild that you can't believe them. I've heard one where the the keeper left because he fell in love with a angel on the other side and was waging war in the human realm in an attempt to get her back, and I've heard one where he is creating a ritual to turn himself into an omnipotent god rivaling the watchers." He took a sip of his bourbon "Personally, I think these guys are just bored and doing something to relieve it by peeing in everybody's cheerios. I am afraid that I don't know much more then that though."

I fall back laughing so hard that I it hurts my side and spooking Fay from her drunken slumber to the point that she jumps up from the glass saying, "Damager! Will Robinson, damager!" She looks around for a moment giving me a dirty look and sliding back down into to the glass with her arms cross on the edge and her head laying on them like she was in a pool.

"Oh man I haven't heard that one." I wipe my eyes with my finger and brush a lock of gold hair back behind my eye. "Fell in love with angel. I don't see anyone or anything falling in love with something that has eyes like that even if she is an angel." I pull my vest and fix my tie. "You're most likely right that about it being some guys that are just bored. Or rather they are fighting the fate they have been give. Somme people are like that but in the end fate is always going to win and everything they do becomes part of the great plan." My head leans back on the back of the seat as I look up at the ceiling

Roshi ignored the pixies antics when Fate disturbed her, but it did seem like the love rumor had stoked the other spirits funny bone. He would give a small smile upon remembering the first time he had heard that. "Yeah, I could hardly understand how that rumor got started, but it is one many small mysterious of the universe." He would say in a sage like manner. His right hand came up too stroke his chin. "And we come full circle back too the philosophical discussions." He said after a small chuckle. "It could be that he wants to fight fate, but I think its more typical that he wants greater power and having some fun on the way. You can see it with these most recent attacks by the 'terrorists' no less." Roshi would say with another soft chuckle.

I grin, "It seem that we have... that we have." I am quit for a long moment listening to soothing music as I think it over. "That could be it. I have read a lot of sayings about power. Like no matter how strong you are these is always someone stronger. Or that power brings you freedom. Or with great power come great responsibly. My personal favorite is, the stronger man isn't the one that uses his power but that one that doesn't... not sure if that is right way for saying it but yeah I like that one. Not really sure why though. At the end of the day I'm just someone else puppet. I wonder if he felt the same way haven to watch that gate every day even though he has all that power."

Roshi gave a little chuckle. "All very interesting sayings particularly the last one." He would say swirling the bourbon around inside of the glass. "Humans have many euphemisms like that, but I personally like that power without purpose is useless. Its why so many spirits are aimless. They have power but no goal too put that power towards. I bet the leader of this ruckus had a myriad of goals and ambitions, some easy to grasp, some that are pretty obscure." Roshi picked up the glass and drank some of the amber contents "I am curious as to why you would say you are somebodies puppet. You seem quite the capable young woman, who can determine her own destiny, or am I wrong in that assumption?" Roshi asked her letting his voice die down and the jazz music too take its place.

The grin on my face fades, as it takes me a moment to answer his question. "I'm capable of doing whatever I want whenever I want to do, but being capable is not the factor that keeps me from doing so. I have a debt to pay and till I do so I'm not free to just walk around as I please."

My eyes glance over to this side as the waitress comes over with a drink, "Sir... Oh I'm sorry Miss... the gentleman at the bar wanted you to have this." She sits the dink down on the table with a yellow post-it that was folded with what looked like a phone number. "What guy?" I didn't turn to look for myself.

"The gentleman with the hat..." She blinks as he man spoke about wasn't there. "Well he was just there..."

"It is ok peanut, thanks for bring it. Here you go. Keep the change." I look at the note as she takes the money before picking up the empty martini glass that Fay was still laying in but was unseen by the human who thought she was a young lady sitting in booth next to me. This cause Fay to fling about as she tries to get out the glass it is moving in the waitress's hand. Rolling out of if the little pixie lands in Roshi's drink. "Sorry to say this but it seems I have work to take care of." I pick up the glass and bring the edge to my lips before I pause for a moment to let out a sigh. "I just can't drink this stuff..." The glass comes back down to the table as I stand up from the booth. "Just something about thought drinking and eating makes me feel... dirty. I really hate being in a physical form." I pick up my jacket and sliding my arms into the sleeves, I remember Roshi saying he liked a good fight. "You want to come a long? There could be a good fight if we are lucky." I fix my tie and vest as I make the offer to him.

Roshi gave a little chuckle. "Its self imposed shackles then, but I won't pry. I can understand why we impose such restraints upon ourselves." He would say as he noticed the little sprite getting dumped into his bourbon. "You can go ahead and drink the rest of that if you want too little one, but you should be careful with it since it is a strong drink." He would say straightening his clothes before sliding out of the booth. Roshi would reach into his pocket and pull out enough money to cover his drink. "Hm, I guess for those who aren't particularly used too it would feel discomforting, but the more time you spend in physical form the more you get used too it." He would say transitioning into his spiritual form. He briefly stopped to consider her proposal, but he just broke out into a big smile. "I'll take you up on that. It should help digest the alcohol." He said as he followed her out of the jazz club.
