"Shi-chan. Order for table eight," comes the voice of one of the baristas on duty tonight. Kami.. What was his name again? I honestly can't remember. The old man tends to fire those who can't keep up or who bore him. Hell if I know. Gregoros-san is a strange man to begin with.

"Hai. Hai." I answer as I pick up the tray with three lattes, a cappichino and a doppio con panna. I don't even acknowledge the other worker as he tries to smile at me. Che.. I have no need for pussies like that. He probably thinks I'm a sweet girl because I'm such a nice waitress. Wrongo! I'm simply acting nice in order to get tips. There is a huge difference.

I work over to the table and a smile is placed on my lips. I forced Yume to stay home in order to finish another paper. I don't mind taking a shift by myself. Plus the boss thinks its just one less person to pay for the night. Also.. I don't think the boss will fire Yume just because she is so goddamn adorable when she is here.

"Here is your order," I say in a friendly tone and set the drinks down. THey thank me and I bow politely. I look up as another customer enters. I smile brightly. "Welcome to Moonbucks Cafe!" I say and begin walking over to seat whoever has come in. Yare yare.. Looks like I'm in for a busy night.

I stand in my living room to the side of the coffee table between it and the kitchen, near the front door. I am dressed in a pair of black slacks, shirt and my large black coat and am looking down at the small kitten that lives with me. “So… a café estima with extra cream?” I ask the small animal. I am answered by a soft mew. “But you’re lactose intolerant,” I remind him, “All cats are.” There is another soft mew as it simply sits on its hunches and peers up at me. It shifts to the side and licks just beneath its shoulder a few times, then rolls onto its back. With a nod, I agree, “Yes I am crazy for talking to a cat.” It was Tre’s fault in the first place, dropping something like this onto me all of the sudden. The thing had grown on me and it added a certain amount of life to the house, even if it did tear up the bottom corner of my leather couch. With a sigh, my head rocks back and I gaze up towards the ceiling for a moment. I had finally gotten paid, even though it wasn’t as much as I wanted. But either way, I was able to make rent with ease and keep some pocket money. My head lowers and I turn heading to the door. Reaching for it, I open the door to the inside and then step through, closing the door behind me leaving Little Ghost to watch the place for me.

The night was calm and my stroll was peaceful as I made my way through the neighborhood. I approach the famous coffee café known as Moonbucks. At any given time of night, this place could be packed with people drinking coffee and socializing. It was a bit strange how much people liked coffee, but since I was among that demographic, it had to be perfectly normal. I had been craving a chance to come down and relax to a smooth house blend, sit and enjoy the atmosphere for some time, but my new night job and sporadic availability. Well, that was an excuse. I was also cheap as well so small visits like this were an actual treat for me. The outside of the café was populated as usual with people hanging out, browsing the internet, reading and the such. I make my way to the door and interior of the coffee house to approach the counter. After a short wait in line, it is finally my turn to order to have my drink brought to me. My gaze is tilted up to the menu that rests elevated behind the counter as I put in an order, quite calmly stating, “let me have a vente café americano.” After the order is received, I pay for it and am given a small green order indicator with the number 24 on it. With it in hand, I make my way back outside until my drink was ready. Finding a vacant circular table, I sit at it to await my order. My elbows rest on the table and my left hand holds my fist as my chin rests on it with my gaze slightly down and on the table drifting off into my own thoughts as I sit idly.

Kami its busy tonight. Maybe I should call Yume. She won't mind coming here. But.. I really hate to see her stressed. I shake my head. I can handle this dammit. I sigh, lifting my hand and tucking a wavy length behind my ear. I always kept my hair up when I was working. Kami forbid something happen and I got it snagged because it was down. Plus it is not sanitary in any manner for me to serve people with my long hair down. I guess I shold be happy I don't have a morning class. But I have kendo at noon then my Advanced Literature class. I swear I have no real life.

"Order up." the voice of my co worker draws me from my thoughts. I say nothing and pick up another tray of orders. I walk to several tables, dropping of random orders. Kami I could for a cafe ole with skim milk and a hint of vanilla flavoring. Coffee is my god in all honesty. It what made morning classes actually work for me. I walk back to get the next order when Mia comes over to the hand off bar and is giggling. Oh kami. Meant she got a cute one in line. She pushes the dirnk toward me. I look down at it. An americano with no room. So the person was definitely male and liked his espresso turned more into coffee to give it a smoother feel and allow it to glide over one's tongue in a rich manner. I take it and place a lid on it.

"Kyro-san.. You're so lucky. He's the hunk sitting outside at table eight," she chirps and I roll my eyes. So what if he had a nice face. All men have a way of making you see only their face and making you fall before they break your heart. But then I don't trust many.

"Whatever.." I mutter and place the drink on my serving tray and walk away from her idiotic whining about how lucky I am to be able to serve all the cute ones. She is such an airhead. I step out of the main cafe to the outdoor seating. My eyes fall on table eight. The guy is looking down, face covered lightly by his hair and not giving me a very good view. I approach the table. But then suddenly one of the patrons gets into an arguement with his significant other and the chick chucks coffee at him. He apurtly stands, slamming into me. The tray goes flying and I let out a yelp as I plummet back. I shut my eyes tightly and wait for the unforgiving ground to meet with my backside or worse... Slamming into one of the other tables.

My downward gaze is broken as some type of public disturbance captures my attention. Glancing up, I notice a male’s voice increase in volume as an argument seems to ensue, and as a result, the male stands to his feet knocking into a nearby waitress. At the time it occurred, the waitress would be to my right side. As she feel back and towards me, my arms unconsciously open and I find that I have caught her, softening her fall somewhat as a loud crash signals my order and the tray it was on hitting the ground to our rear. Immediately, my gaze cuts to the male as I am short, “learn how to act in public, idiot.” But the male wasn’t important and he had issues of his own with the significant other who seemed to want to reprimand him as well. Instead of lingering my anger on him, my attention turns to the small frame in my arms as I look down and request, “are you alright? Does it hurt anywhere?” 175

I expect the ground or the sting of crashing into oneof the table. But its neither. My descent is suddenly halted and I feel the breath knocked out of me a little. But I find my eyes blinking open rapidly in surprise as a male voice is heard. I look up and my eyes widen. The man.. Had caught me. I blink again as he looked down at me. Oh hell.. Mia was right. He was handsome. And his voice was smooth and made my heart flutter in an odd manner. I flush lightly. SHit I must look like a goddamn pansy. I nod quickly and get my footing and quickly move from his arms. I look at him as I smooth out my uniform, glad the skirt had not flipped up. I incline my head to him.

"Arigato. I'll get you a new drink.." I say to him before my eyes narrow and I round on the man who had sent me tumbling. I point out to the street, aura deadly. "You both are to leave. Right now," I inform them, my voice icy and the same one I use when I truly am pissed. "You both nearly caused injury to someone who is not even involved in your lover's spat. No go," I order them, my voice leaving no room for arguement. The female huffs and storms off and the male runs after her with a 'Baby! Hold on! Let me explain'

And thus the reason I don't get into relationships anymore. I sigh and the anger melts away as I look at the man who had saved me. I smile a bit, not using that fake smile I usually use. "I'll go get you a new drink now. Again.. Arigato," I say to him, giving him a moment to replay and if he chose not to I would head back inside to get his order again.

For a moment, I got to hold her there in my arms and there is a bit of time where eye contact is held. As I get a good look at her face, she seemed pretty to me. Just by looking at her, I was certain she was among those types of women who were regularly harassed and hit on at work to the point where they block out male attention of all types. I give her a moment to compute everything that’s happened, since it probably was a shock, falling like that and being caught. She seems to get up with no troubles, and I release her from the momentary embrace as she straightens out her clothing. With her off of me, I stand a bit so that I could see if any of it got on my coat as she speaks of bringing me another drink. Preoccupied about the mess behind me, I turn and in crouching down, I pick up the fallen tray. By the time I stand rise back up, her icy tone has rejected the ones creating a disturbance and they leave the premises. Her gaze returns to me about the time I stand before her and hold the tray and empty cup back to her at chest level, offering it to her. As she speaks, I answer, “that is fine. Thank you.” 228

I am halted in leaving and I blink in surprise as he actually hands me the tray and the empty cup that he had picked up from the ground. It makes my eyes widen a bit. Most would have just left it till I came to clean it up. It makes my smile soften and warm a bit. I gently take the tray with the empty cup on it and incline my head to him. Dammit. He's handsome and nice. I mentally slap myself. No Shiori! You've fallen way too many times for that. Remember Masa. He was nice and then the moment he got you alone he wanted you to suck his cock or he would break up with you.

THat helps calm the fluttering butterflies. "Arigato," I say to him once again and then turn and head back into the main part of the cafe. As I come to the hand off counter, Mia is all ready there and looking at me with curious orbs. Oh kami. THe girl was a gossip and now wanted the entire 'scoop' as she put it. I hold up my hand before she can open her mouth.

"Just get me another venti americano with no room. Now," I say in a cool tone. SHe leans back, knowing never to mess with my 'ice bitch' voice. She hurries and gets the espresso made and then fills the cup with hot water after the four shots are drawn. I take the new cup and then wave her away. She wasn't getting anything out of me. I then think for a moment and pull out my paper pad and jot down my cell number. I can't help it. I'm tired of scaring men off because they can't stand my forward way to life. I come back out, avoiding everyone. I come up to his table and set the new cup down and slip him the paper. I smile and wink. "Well prince charming. If your ever up for a fun night. Give me a call and I'll see if I can get out of work or my team meets. I would really like to treat you as my thank you for that. You saved me from a bruised backside when I have kendo in the morning. My name is Kyro Shiori," I pause. I know I'm forward and I tend to take the bull by the horns, so to speak. I try to guage his reaction before I add. "Can I know the name of my savior?"

Her smile was genuine, catching me off guard as I see a bit of sincerity in her eyes. There is another apology and then she moves away from me. My gaze watches her for a moment, then shifts as it looks around to see those who might have been looking at us up until this point. It was understandable to have attention from the series of events that’s just gone down as our actions were attention getting, but the man and woman arguers were gone, and with the waitress heading back to interior, people would be heading back into what they were doing or their own conversations. Looking to the seat to my side, I sit back down as I was before the catching of the waitress. My arms rest on the table and I lean forwards a bit. What an odd thing to happen out of the blue.

The wait isn’t long before she comes back out to with a fresh cup of what I’ve been waiting for. I happen to get more than I bargained for when a piece of paper is slid to me along with the coffee. That, mixed with her words, catches me off guard as it takes me a moment to comprehend that I’ve just been hit on. It wasn’t something that normally happened form a cute girl, but then again, I wasn’t the most social person in the world. I glance down at the paper that was slid to me before placing it within the inside pocket of my coat, answering, “I’m Jyn. Asei Jyn.” I didn’t feel like what I did was such a big thing, but I wouldn’t refuse the request of a cute woman; I wasn’t gay. I assure her, “it was nothing… but I’ll call you.” Somehow by her being this forward, something makes me feel like I would have been rejected had I asked for her phone number. She was interesting to me, maybe I would see her around. 332

"Jyn.." I test out the name and then nod. He seemed clearly surprised I had hit on him. I mean.. Did he look in a mirror. He was the dark, mysterious handsome type. Exactly my type. Much to my failure in relationships. All my dark princes turned out to be total assholes only looking for a way into my pants. But maybe.. Just maybe he could be different. I smile softly at him. Glad he'll call me.

"And if you can't reach me. I work here every night but Sunday night," I tell him. Kami I bet Mia is boiling inside while watching me flirt with this man. Honestly that's what I need. A man. A real man who won't mind that I can care for myself and that I don't need to be defended all the time. But.. That I'm still a person and I need contact with others. I don't wish to ever turn out like my parents. Now a test. If it scared him I would just lump this with my failures.

"Ano.. Do you like Kendo?" I ask. I needed to know if he didn't mind a strong girl like myself. I look delicate because I know I'm cute. But all of this is muscle and I can snap some people like twigs. If a man can't handle that. THen I have no reason to pursue him.

My name sounded nice in the tone of her voice, coming from her lips. The question comes in about Kendo and I find it an odd thing to ask out right on first meeting, but as I was learning, the female before me could be a bit unpredictable. It couldn’t help to learn a bit about the girl I would be calling either. “Kendo?” I say after she mentions it. “I suppose I like it. I’ve watched the regional competitions on television; it seems very intense.” I clarify, “…but, I’ve never participated in it.” When it came to martial arts, I had never been formally trained, so I couldn’t perpetrate as if I were very knowledgeable about such things, though, much like other things, I did find them very interesting. Actually, as it was, I was only good with guns. Staying with the conversation, I remark, “could it be that you are a practitioner?” I didn’t know of too many people who practiced Kendo outside of high school, and from what I could tell, she was a bit old to still be in high school. Could I be robbing the cradle here? She was cute either way, and younger girls were trendy these days with the idols and such. 210

Well at least he's wathced it. The Regionals.. Didn't I get second place? But then at those things most people think I'm a guy anyway. His question comes and I find myself smiling and nodding. I truly loved the art of Kendo and martial arts. THey allowed me to be free and let go of the chains of life and society. But now comes the next thing. Would he look at me oddly when I told him my true role in such a sport. I've had men turn me down after this and show no interest in a woman who could manage being Captain of SaiU's kendo team.

"Hai. I'm Taicho of SaiU's kendo team. I was also Taicho in High School when my former taicho graduated," I explain, unable to hide my love for the sport as I speak about it. I watch him, waiting for he rejection most men gain in their eyes and stance. Would this one pass? By Kami please.. Please let him be something worth going for. I'm tired of losers. And I haven't gotten laid in ages because I'm so picky these days. Come on cutie. Don't disappoint me. Try to handle me. So what if I'm strong. Just means I know how to get out of something without needing help.

As she speaks, I start to drink the coffee that she has brought to me, as I didn’t want it to get cold without having a chance to taste it. I hold it in my right hand with my arm resting on the table with my body turned and opened towards her. I almost felt as if I should offer her a seat, but she was working and would probably be called back at any moment. With a nod I admit, “captain level. That’s pretty impressive. It seems I’ve met someone very interesting.” I admit a soft smile coaxed by her smile, as it is drawn from me. She was too cheerful when talking about Kendo for me to merely keep a straight face while conversing. “I suppose that explains your vigor for the sport,” I understand. So she was a college student as well. She seemed like a very busy person. Just from what she’s said thus far, I understand that she works at nights, participates as a captain in a university Kendo club and probably takes classes during the day as well. That was a lot for one person compared to someone like me. I had plenty of time during the days, but my nights seemed to be getting busier these days. 215

I wait for it and then he surprises me completely. I find a smile blossoming on my face. So my dark prince has passed and with flying colors. I hug the tray in my hands to my chest, happy. Its so rare for a guy to pass that one test. I then find myself flushing a bit with his next words and grin a bit sheepishly. "Ah. Hai. I love it," I admit. No use in lieing about it. I look back through the windows and I can see Mia looking at me with seething jealousy. I smirk. Bitch lost out on this one. I look back to Jyn.

"Give me a call anytime. Just leave a message. I tend to have morning classes," I say to him.

"Also.. Congrats on passing my first test, Jyn-kun," I say to him as I step closer and then lean down to him and move in to give him a kiss on the cheek if he does not move away. It was his reward for passing and making me interested in getting to know him more. I don't care what people think. I go for what I want. That is never going to change.

I seem to give correct responses that correspond with what she would like me to say. Her mood increased and the order to call is reinforced. I nod, understanding, “I’ll keep that in mind.” I am told that I’ve passed the first test, which was cute. Once again, I had not expected her to lean forwards and kiss me on my cheek. I did not move away from it, rather I sat there and allowed it to happen. Her soft lips presses against my skin for a moment and then regretfully she pulls away. With that, I inform, “I look forward to future tests, Shiori.” If the first test gave a kiss, I could only imagine what the tenth test could possibly yield. “I’ll try to have a few tests prepared the next time we speak as well.” It is a dry tease, but based in my personality. I notice the woman staring at her from the windows and wonder if I am the subject of a bet or something. Things were progressing a bit too smoothly; but then again, I would find out if I called the number that was given to me. With a nod, I assure, “…but I will call you.” 204

My lips press against his cheek and I'm pleased he did not pull away. Slowly I move back and I blink at his words. I then straighten and let laughter bubble from my lips. What an interesting man I've found. I calm and give him a wink. "Bring it, Jyn sweetie. I'll be waiting," I say and I hear as Mia yells for me. I roll my eyes. Jealous bitch. I sigh and look at him.

"Make sure you do. I don't usually give out my phone number to men. Oh.. Also.. Since you passed. The number is written backwards. Even rarer for me to tell a man that its written reversed. Talk to you later, Jyn-kun," I say to him as I turn and head back in.

"Don't get your panties in a twist!" I yell back to Mia as I get back to doing my job. Hopefully he would call me. I wanted to know him for some reason. Maybe its all because I sense a.. Shall I say bond that we can share? I don't know. I've never been good with men. But maybe.. Just maybe I'm right about this one. Kami really I hope I am.

“Heh,” I murmur lightly to her jest of bringing it. It would seem that it was time for her to be taken away from me, as the café called for her. Ashe turns back around and informs me of the encryption of her phone number. Thinking about it, I found it pretty amusing. I figured it out that if she hadn’t liked me after talking to me, she wouldn’t have to bother about hearing from me. That was cute as well. I nod and lift my left hand slightly as she says goodbye and moves back to her job. Her frame gets smaller as I watch her walk off. My gaze shifts back to the table as I bring the cup of coffee to my lips and take a sip before lowering it back. It would be awkward for me to stay much longer, if she had other tables to attend to that were outside and near me. Eye contact would be made and it might get a bit creepy on my end. I couldn’t have her thinking that I was the stalker type. I decide to enjoy my coffee on a walk home. The chair slides back a bit as I stand to my feet. With my café americano in hand, I make my way away from the Moonbucks café to begin the casual night stroll home. 230
