Hotaka Kaito! You goddamn pedo! The darkness prevailed amongst the shining sun once again, leaving the place in blackness for the night. The chill winds of winter blew among the sleeping buildings, and drifts of snowflakes fell to the ground which already laid lightly doused in snow. Amongst the scenery, a lone male figure stood in front of an open alley, as if waiting for his star-crossed lover, destined to meet together amongst the light snowfall to hold hands and kiss. ...how uncomfortably cliche. After handling my earlier obligations, I find myself in the Lower Commons yet again. As per usual, my goal resided within the curious nature of the demonic spirits that seemed to flock to this place, however, this was a very special demon today. Demoness, perhaps, if anatomical correctness matters when speaking of supernatural creatures. It had been the week's time that was requested, and I showed up on time as per usual. It was around midway through the night, perhaps at 2 A.M or so, far past the time where any normal people would be awake. But alas, neither I nor the person who I was waiting on should be considered 'normal' in the least. Even though I would like nothing more than to be normal, with my unhealthy obsession and 'special powers', I find I don't fit in that category. The other person's odd nature definitely warrants her placement in the same category as me. Either way, the fact that I was here meant that my request wasn't based upon just the impact of the drug she had attacked me with alone, but upon my true personal desires as well. That in itself bothered me, but I had already come all the way here and was currently waiting for the arrival of the mysterious saleswoman, so it was too late to turn back now.

___The spirit that flew to meet him that night, dragging a rather large box held closed by static chains through the air behind her, seemed in relatively high spirits. While the winter cold slowed down business considerably, this customer would bring her enough cash in hand for at least some subs, some booze, and a frappuchino. All was well with the world. The box made thumping noises and complained of the harsh and chilling winds. "Shut up Midget Bitch. We're almost there." Confining the girl to the box had been exceedingly difficult, almost more trouble than it was worth, but with tactful negotiations... well, as tactful as this particular spirit ever got, the little lady agreed to come along, having been promised diamonds, toys, candy, and the kitchen sink. ___Travel through the air always turned out quick and pleasant, and the spirit could phase out of the reality that contained the numbing cold, using the spiritual chain to keep a good hold on the box despite the fact that it was technically in a separate plane from her. Soon, very soon, her feet rested on the same building she'd been on last week around this time. "Ey. Mighty chilly out ain't it?" she greeted the man, flashing a toothy grin.

Rubbing the back of my neck, I gazed in each direction looking for the woman who I was supposed to meet. I had been waiting for about an hour anyway, but I was a pretty patient person none the less. I could visually picture a chess game in my head and verse myself a bit, and just in general enjoy the look of the snowfall. But, then again, I was also anxious. I wanted my.. special order, despite how utterly and morally wrong it all was. The fact that I felt somewhat excited made heart reel and ache. Gazing at my watch, I noted she hadn't arrived yet. It had only been a few more minutes since I checked, but it felt as if more time had passed than reality seemed to say. Perhaps my watch is broken? Thinking so, I look at the clock on the building across from me. It was somewhat ironic, too, that at this time the woman I was waiting for landed on the very same building I was gazing up at. Her greeting is playfully casual, as expected. Come to think of it, wasn't this how I noticed her the first time? "You think so? I guess I just like the winter." I say, beginning to move closer to the building while I counter-greet her. My breath emits the small puffs of chilly air as I speak, which would float up into the atmosphere and join with the clouds, or something. As I watch one in particular waft up to the sky and slowly disintegrate out of visual existence, I notice the box she seems to have at her side. I stare at it intently for a moment, my heart skipping its first beat after realizing it. I had a strong feeling I knew what the contents of that box were.

___With her usual smug manner, Grunty prepared to elaborate on the deal. Unfortunately, in the process of phasing into the physical world, she lost her grip on the box and what was apparently a small girl clad in violet burst out in a storm of bats and shouting. "Oh shit! She's out..." the spirit groaned. ___"What is all THIS? You're making me miss the Powerpuff Girls marathon!" the girl seemed to shout at nobody in particular. Looking around, she finally noticed where she was. "Man, it's cold..." she commented, shivering, her somehow reddish eyes scanning the cold rooftop around her until they settled on the man before her. "Oh hey, are you the FBI? I'm so happy to see you. Arrest this woman! She promised me a new motorbike and a gold chain and a special surprise. I'm sure there's some law against scamming innocent women..." ___"Look here you fucking little mutant bitch," Grunty began with a growl, "if you don't act right for my customer here I'm going to jack you up so bad Social Services is gonna wond..." ___"SEE?!" the girl cried in a tremulous soprano so ear splitting it shut even Grunty up, "She's threatening me! Send her to jail!"

The sudden arrival of the loli girl can be likened to one's first experience with a jack-in-the-box. You know there's something inside that small crate, but you don't know what: yet you stare intently until a (creepy) creature pops out and laughs in your face. However, instead of a life, my case has a small woman yelling at an uncomfortable volume. The 'salesperson' also seems thrown off by this, but then again, this is my first time seeing my 'product', so I make sure to give it a good look over. The small, childlike figure was already raising my internal blood temperature. I didn't get this way when I saw any little girl; it must have been her looks in combination of knowing what exactly the situation was that lead me to be so flushed. Suddenly, I'm assaulted with the mighty finger of the child. Just as I think I'm going to hear her yell something like "you damn lolicon!", she instead mistakes me for.. the FBI? The following exchange between her and the one who was trafficking her proved to be a rather 'cute' scenario, had it taken place at any other time. Of course, the girl's vicious verbal attack was almost enough to make my ears bleed, and definitely stunned me for a brief moment. It seemed like I would have to try to settle things before they get out of hand. Letting out a sigh, I fold my arms and try to sort things out. "No, I'm not the FBI exactly.. but it is my job to take care of you. It's snowing now, so you're cold, am I right? Plus it's late.." Wait, it really is late, isn't it? 2 A.M? What's a Powerpuff Girls marathon doing on at this hour and why am I missing it? And how would she know it was on now? Did she often stay up this late? Anyway.. "..so I'm sure you're tired, right? My house is some distance away, so we should head there now. Can you walk, or do you want me to carry you?" If this worked, I'd be able to pay the odd woman and then hurry on my way, which would definitely be nice, but things in this type of business never go so smoothly, do they?

The girl looked confused for a few moments, blinking and looking up at the cloudy sky once more. "It's that late? Oh poo, that means I've missed it. Oh well..." studying the man for a few minutes, she nodded, as though reaching some consensus within herself, then turned to the dirty spirit behind her, pointing once again in a dramatic fashion that showed the spiral of her fingerprint. "You! I'll concede to your trickery and agree to stay with this glasses guy if you bring me my puppies, Gerbils and Gearing. They should be at my estate. One's a white German Shepard, the other one's normal. Make sure you yell, 'Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer' before they see you, though. They're sort of trained to attack strangers. On second thought, you don't look too bright, so just yell,'Seig heil' and you should be ok," The little one hopped out of the box and walked over to the glassed man to take his hand and put the other one up to her mouth, looking up cutely. "So we're going to your home now, Oni-chan?"

___Grunty blew a small cloud of smoke out of her nose. "Sure, sure, anything yew want, Midge. Just after I get my payment..." she looked up at Kaito expectantly. "It's all part of my awesome follow-up and ex... exsuh... fuck it. Good customer service," her smile was wide now that she saw there probably wouldn't be that much trouble from the girl. All in all the... thing, shall we call it, was much stronger than it appeared. She tried to get her into the box with coercion versus bribery, and those wounds only cleared recently. She wasn't physically all that strong but she was near impossible to hit and could easily make a monkey out of any opponents. "I trust you're satisfied with your product so far?"

Hotaka Kaito! You goddamn pedo!
The little one seems not to trust me as she spends a bit of time staring up at me incredulously. As she does, I continue to hold my position with a somewhat blank look. Finally, however, she deems me acceptable and tells her captor that she would go along with things under the condition she would be able to have her puppies. I began to wonder how exactly I would go about making this all a reality. Two dogs would likely end up peeing on my bed and eating things, but I liked pets anyway, so I could attempt to train them. Animals weren't even allowed in the dorm room, so I would have that difficulty to face as well. Add onto that that this child in front of me was: 1. a female, and 2. well, a child. Neither of which were allowed in the dorm room. I figured I'd think of something to say to convince the management to allow it. If I failed, I was sure I could get my parents to assist me somehow, but how I would go about explaining the situation to them was something I didn't know at this time. Regardless, it would work itself out. The fact that the child stealer had taken a nazi was something I didn't even care about. I wasn't the type to discriminate based on someone's views, and I wasn't one to think less of another simply because of what they believe in. That was unmanly. Especially since she was a child, she may very well grow out of it. She probably got this way due to her upbringing. Which also reminded me; what about her parents? Would they not care, or something? Was she the type with a bad past in her family and the family wouldn't care if she dissapeared, like those cliche stories in TV Dramas? And what about the dogs? Oh, whatever. Suddenly, however, the child comes over to me and grabs my hand. I figure she wants me to piggy-back her home or something, but the sudden movement of her other hand to her soft, small lips.. the lips of an innocent child who would be relying on me from this point out.. it makes me gasp and my eyes shake in surprise, the irides shrinking drastically. Then, the words of "onii-chan" nearly stop my heart. It gives one giant beat and then skips the following two or three before slowly getting back into rhythm. Using such an attack was... a truly underhanded move! when the woman comes looking at me for money, I use my free hand to rest itself on my chest while I breathe in and out once. Even the child's hands were soft, and it made me even more on edge. Once calmed, my hand goes to my pocket and pulls out my wallet, before I -- rather adeptly, I must say -- pull out a stack of bills with only one hand, fully utilizing my fingers. I had them in multiple bills, since I figured she'd not want to be seen carrying large, unmarked bills at night. Extending my hand after putting away my wallet, I give her what she wanted: $800.00. "Here. 800, like we agreed on, right?"

___Grunty took the bills rather suddenly, flipping through them as though she knew how to count. Narrowing her pond scum colored eyes, she looked sideways at her customer. "Oy, the puppies weren't in the deal... especially racist dogs... I can't guara... guarant... ensure their safe delivery, you know? Are you sure you don't want to buy some insurance so you can know they'll be there tonight?" A wide smile snaked its way across her face. A few extra dollars meant a few extra bottles of booze. Maybe she'd try some fine wine from the local winery in the morning. "The price is $100 per package, and we got two packages, eh?"

The girl turned her big eyes to the extortionist woman. "Oh, I guess I should tell you where my house is, you're a spirit so they might shoot you or something... but I guess it is pretty late. Everyone else should be asleep by now. Ummm... it was two houses from where you found me... the big white house with the unicorn topiary." Turning back to Mr. Pedo, the small child observed that... well, something was up with his eyes and he seemed to be not ok outside of the fact that he was handing the woman money. "Are you ok, Onii-chan? You seem a little flushed..." Deciding he was merely flushed and not impaired, she giggled cutely. "You'll like Goebbels and Goering. They're very good dogs. If you'd like we can keep them outside and they can keep away the homeless and other criminals... but the problem with that is they always spoil their dinner..."

As one could expect of the woman with the very flexible attitude, she quickly laid her hands upon her payment and went to work counting it. I wondered for a moment what monetary system people use in the spiritual world, if they do at all, but I never doubted she'd be able to count for herself. Then, like the good saleswoman she was, she swooped back down from her monetary high with the scent of another sale. I could have stopped her in the middle of her stumbling with words, but I didn't care to. All I needed to know was how much. Luckily, though, $100.00 was an easy fix. I had that much, so without thinking, I did another swift/adept/skillful/masterful/etc. hand move and pulled out the additional $200.00. I had another $100.00 left, so maybe I could go to one of the all-night snack shops they had and treat the kid or something? Whatever; didn't matter. She might not been hungry anyway. By the time I give the money to the woman and the little one gives her directions, I'd had mostly calmed down... mostly. I was still rather flushed and my face was still a bit red, but it was getting better. Of course, the second coming of the "onii-chan" was a complete terror, causing my heart to skip again. But, with much inner effort and will power, I manage to stop from going into total shut down a la the last time. Instead, my eyes only widen once more and my face goes redder than before. Her dogs become the subject of attention rather quickly though, so I do not have time to dwell on my pain for long. I answer in a heavy pant, as if I had just finished running. "No, no.. it'll be fine inside. I'm sure they'd rather be inside or whatever, but if it's exercise, we can handle walking them without a problem." Either way, I would once again begin to leave, assuming the woman had no other business. Turning to give her a proper goodbye, however, I bow slightly in thanks. "Thank you for your business. You'll find me in the academic sector; the main high school has a school dorm some blocks away from it. The big, wide building with the large courtyard is the school, and look northeast of it a few blocks and find the tallest building in the area with windows around each wall. It's really bright, obnoxious yellow. You can't miss it. My name's Hotaka Kaito, if you need to ask for me. If we don't see you in three days, we'll be back here. Keep the dogs safe until then; that's the purpose of the insurance policy, right?" Assuming she had no problem with that, I would make sure I had a firm grip on the little one's hand and begin walking back. "You hungry at all? I've got some cash left on me, if you'd like to eat out somewhere.."

___Another satisfied customer. The woman inhales the scent of the $200 she quickly snatched off of the boy. Ah, nothing quite like it... except maybe weed. Nodding, she grinned, both at his red face and at the delivery suggestion. "Three days? I'll prolly have it to ye a lot quicker, eh?" Squatting down, she pets the succubus's purple hair. "You be good for Mister Perv, ok? Don't go throwing him any curveballs. He's one of those Student creatures who spends all of their time locked up in a room being forced to learn dumb tricks so they can do bigger tricks for money some day. They can't take a bunch of change at once. I guess maybe I'll see you around if you want to hang out or something..." ___Standing to her feet, the spirit waved goodbye to the schoolboy and hopped off of the building, shifting into her vulpine form and disappearing into the snowy shadows below. Daylight would find her in the rich people district.

Moskau seemed quite happy about the plans to keep her dogs inside. "Really? They can stay? Oooo! You won't regret this, Mister! My name's Moskau by the way. In a fairy tale I read it was the most beautiful city in the world!" Her eyes were wide with excitement as she waved her arms with her speech... speaking of which, they'd gone from reddish to a soft amber... the complete opposite of her outfit and hair. "I think I want to go eat some noodles. Are the ramen shops on the east end of the city still open?"

I make sure to overlook the insults the saleswoman was handing out and feeding to the small child about me, as it didn't really matter. Once she turns and leaves, I make sure to wave properly for her departure. It was pretty cool seeing spirits shift forms like that, so it wasn't something that got old for me. Cutely, the young girl who introduced herself as Moskau was very happy about hearing the news that her dogs would be inside with us. In addition, she called me mister instead of onii-chan, so I avoided another potential heart attack with that. She went on to talk about her name and how she got it, and had that mystical glint in her eye that innocent children get when they talk about things that amaze them or are generally special to them. It was something that made me smile without resist, so when she asked if East City had any ramen shops open at this time of night, I, of course, couldn't tell her no. Luckily, we weren't SO far from East City, and it wasn't completely out of our way. Northeast was still North to a degree, so we'd be heading home at least somewhat. "Mm. Yes, there should be one or two that are still open at this point. I can think of one famous for some good food. You interested?"
