The next lvl of work (work thread)

Another day of human work. It was nearly maddening how sad these fools lives were. Even though he was once human that was a long time ago. And now he no longer felt the connection between him and them. He was a demon, a cold and manipulative one. Strangely enough though everyone he felt he was manipulating, was actually out for their own means. But maybe thats what it truly was to manipulate. Using what others want, and helping them achieve their lesser goals to build up your own grander one. He would ponder more on this as he walked through the maze of cubicles. These people worked everyday and for nothing. Only if they had true drive could they make it farther in the business. He sat down at his desk and looked to see if his cohort Samuel was there.

Samuel wouldn't be as he had been busy working on a particular call that had come in, one that couldn't just be explained by human stupidity. It was refreshing really to have something to do, that didn't want to make you hit your head against your desk. "Looks like this needs to go in for a retrofit. It probably just needs to be cleaned out and made the fan replaced if it is making those weird sounds like you are saying." He would say as he stood up from where he was leaning over the computer tower. "I'll have a repairman come over and pick it up, and then see about getting it back to you within a day or so." Samuel would say as he trotted back to his desk. "Hello Jacob having fun working this job yet?" He asked.

Jacob hung up the phone with a customer just as Jacob was asking him if he was liking the job yet. " If you mean by what it allows me to access than....no. Im far to restricted here and I cant get what I need. You may not know this Samuel but, with the right information I can find demons in this city." He let it hang for a second so it could catch Samuel's interest. "Nothing against you and your skills Samuel, as im sure you have by now. Researched everything there is to know by human knowledge about demons. But there are very slight things you need to learn to look for. " He paused for a moment thinking of something in his mind. "Hmm alright, ive finished over 98% of my work for today and tomorrow ill give you a crash course on just what to look for when your searching out demons."

Samuel listened to Jacob talk, and it looked like the demon was wanting to put the screws to him once again. *He wants to show me just how numerous his kind is out here, and at the same time put down everything I've learned so far about them.* Samuel would say, but he would only give a slight smile towards the Hyena. "Fine, let's start talking about how to find your fellow demons. Let's just start with the office right now. I am sure there must be some spirits commingling with us right now." Samuel said.

Jacob looked at him as if he was crazy. "Are you insane? You really think that I would sork somewere, that other demons are? So that I could be easily found out? No Samuel there are no other demons anywere in this company. But let me give you the first thing you look for when looking for demons. And all this information can be found with the right access. First thing is death. I check the obits as you call them quite often. And I study every face in it. Most Oni and Kami were once human. Very few are actually made from the spirit world. And the dumber ones will take the form of their previous selves, or their old names." He paused again. "And dont go looking up my name or my face anywere you wont find it. Im not supid enough not to follow what I know."

"I don't know. You might think of yourself too highly if you think that there aren't demons or other such spirits lurking around here." He would say as he leaned back. "That makes sense, but you haven't been the only one who knows how these things go. Obits are a good place to start, but its really the strange news where the greatest hits come from for finding other demons." He would reach in and pull out a tabloid magazine and the normal Sai city newspaper. "Unusual weather phenomenon, gas main explosions, freak power outages there is always some logical or good explanation for these weird occurrences no matter how freakish they appear. Like take the gas main explosion that happened a few weeks ago. That to me seemed pretty suspect, so I did some digging. There was no gas main running through that street, not to mention that any footage of the actual explosion has mysteriously vanished. Those are precisely the events that one looks for in addition to the obits like you said." Samuel would say with a little smirk.

Jacob grinned. He had almost forgotten how smart this human was. "Your on the right track Samuel, that was my second one, strange events. Now that my seem obvious but this is why im aggitated at the lack of info I can get access to. Most strange events are cover ups. For example the gas line explosion, anyone could find out that there was no gas running there. But what we really need to find out is just who was covering it up. And what do they know. For they are the ones either knowing who and what the events really are. Or they are the puppets being used by the puppeteer. But im sure you figured most of that. That last thing Samuel is simply to open your eyes to the world around you. There are many demons walking around causing trouble and not caring about how they show their abilities. And with your awareness, it should be ten times easier to see some foolish demon walking around." Jacob then cut the conversation cause the assistant director was coming.

Samuel would just roll his eyes over at the demon. "Its rather obvious there are only few entities that could pull off such a feat excluding any demonic agents. I'd put my money on it being a government agency. They would have the resources and the clout to handle such things on a regular occasion." Samuel would say before he quieted down as the director approached the both of them. *We either did something good, or we did something really bad. You can't tell from the directors face since it always looks like he has something distasteful in his mouth.* Samuel thought to himself as he waited to hear what he had to say.

The asst director walks over with an emotionless face. Something Jacob liked dispite that the man was exremly unpleasent to be around. He stopped in front of their desks and looks at them suspiciously. "Well I dunno how you two did it. But you have caught the attention of the higher ups. So both of you as of today are being promoted to support specialists. Everyone that is in this current department will be under you. You will be moving to another location, well its just the room next door. Another foot of cubicle space. Id congratulate you but I really cant figure out why this is happening. Especially when Jacob just got here. Anyway get going moving your stuff." He said and then walked away. Once he was away Jacob flashed Samuel and evil grin and then turned around and started clearing out his work space.

"It looked like he was swallowing shit." Samuel said with a dry laugh as he leaned back to see if the director was well enough away, which looked like he was. "Well, it looks like you are moving up in the world ." Samuel would say as he started to clean up his own space. "At least we won't be hearing more people with their stupid computer problems anymore." Samuel would say in relief. "Now, we get to supervise them all." Samuel said with a chuckle.

"Yes he did look like he hated telling us about that. I will say though I didnt expect you to be promoted as well. Its a welcome addition though. If we advance at the same pace it will be much easier to get what we need done." He said still clearing his desk. Once everything was in a box he walked out of that one big room and over to the next. The room was almost identical but with far less people. Besides Samuel and himself there was only three others. One tall, skinny and blad person saw them come in and approached them. He reached to shake both of their hands. "Hi hows it going? Im William. You two must be the two new guys. Well newly promoted. Congratulations. Over to the right is Jill." He said pointing to the right. A hand waved from over the cubicle wall. "Shes pretty into her work, or sleeping I cant tell. And to the left is Richard." He pointed left. A older guy with light brown hair stood up looking over the wall and gave the boy scout two finger salute and sat back down."The job is pretty simple and I think its better than being on the other side of the wall." He said. Jacob took notice of the way he mentioned it. This one had cut himself off from his former peers. "Well get settled and if you have questions feel free to ask me or Richard. You can ask Jill to but I doubt you will get an answer." He said sitting down.

Samuel gave a slight nod of his head as he set down his things on a spartan desk and started putting down his personal effects. "Well, I got a question, what are we supposed to do, push paper around?" Samuel would ask as he started arranging things as put things down. "Ah, thanks for telling me about that." Samuel would say as he sat down to look across from Jacob.

Jacob had shaken the guy's hand. "Well im Jacob and its good to be working with you all." He said, as he set his stuff on the desk. "Well we do a lot of the important work around here. We dont go out into the field like you guys are used to. At least as little as possible, we might be called to do some senior field work but not if we can help it. That is for them to do. We sort it out and clean it up so the higher ups can clearly see whats going on. If you do a bad job they will notice and you will never get promoted." He said with a fairly serious tone. Also one of agitation. It was clear to Jacob that William was proud of what he did and felt anything else was lower. Something Jacob could appreciate except this blinded him from further goals. Not something Jacob liked.

Samuel would give a slight nod of his head. *So, they just push paper around then, figures.* Samuel thought to himself. "Okay, so we don't do field work. I get that, but that's not exactly telling me what it is. You know what are the things we are doing here and all of that." Samuel would say knowing this would earn him a bit of ill will from his fellow co-worker, but honestly it would be nice to know what they actually did here.

Jacob just listened to the two banter on about the job. At his request William went into great lengths about the job he was so proud of. It took an entire half an hour to get it all out. Everything from organizing letter statements to processing software upgrades. The latter seemed to catch Jacobs interest the most and he was sure Samuel's to. "Every month we have to go to the main server support systems. And we upload new data and changes to processes and what not. Its very tedious and usually takes all day. We usually rotate every month on who does it." He paused for a moment. "This month its me." He said with a fairly depressed sound. Jacob was quick to jump on it. "Well me and Samuel could do it. Rather you could show us the main parts and then handle the tedious stuff to us. Im sure the letters are better done by a person with far more experience like you. The higher ups would want to see quality work than the weak stuff we would put out. Right Samuel?" He said looking towards Samuel.

Samuel would look over towards Jacob who was moving to trying get them into something, that wasn't quite right. (Well, it looks like Jacob wants to plant a bug in the main database.) Samuel would think to himself. "Well, I don't mind working with the database again, and I am sure that letting us take care of the more technical aspects of the job would be best for the entire team until we can get a handle on the data processing portions of the job." Samuel would say.
