It was a calm night, the sky was open and allowed a weak shine from the stars and moon to light up the city through the smog. Nikki had a day off and had decided that instead of being at home, watching a film and then falling asleep alone, she’d rather go out on town and maybe meet some people she could make friends with. Ever since arriving in Saicity almost ten years ago, she had made very few friends and those who she could consider friends were now not someone she would be hang out with. Much had changed in the woman’s life during the past five or so years – getting out of the red lights and the life as a dancer and into the safety of a nice flat and a steady job within the force. Chuckling to the memories and dreams, which had come true, she noticed that she had wandered into Gothstone, a part of Saicity that she had never traversed in before and so she had no clue where to go. Following a small group of people which were walking down the sidewalk, she found herself after some time at a pub of some sort which had a big board outside its door saying ‘Live Music’ which was followed by a long list of singers and entertainers.
Shrugging for a short second, she decided to enter despite not having anyone to share her night with, though upon entry she saw how packed the place actually was, that put a damper on the feeling of being alone, and hopefully she could make some friends as well. Heading for the bar, she removed her jacket to reveal a blood red tank top and a small tattoo of a kanji on the back of her left shoulder. She hung the jacket carefully on the back of the chair as she sat down and ordered a pint. “Aah, you’ve come at the right time lass. The music is just about to start” the bartender said as he motioned towards a small stage in the corner behind her.

On that list of names was the group "possessed" It consisted of a drummer, a keyboardist, a bassist, and a guitarist. All of whom were male, and were fronted by a female singer. That was me. I had joined the band the other night and this was sorta like my trial run, so far we had done two songs and the crowd seemed to love it. The drummer was wearing a rag on his head and dressed in typical goth style clothing but without his shirt. The keyboardist was wearing his long black hair flowing around his shoulders and a plain white, wife beater. His nails glistened black with nail polish. The guitarist had long blond hair and was dressed in black. And the Bassist was sporting a long red haired beard done up with a braid on either side. His long red hair was frizzed every which way. He looked more like a saxon than goth, but it worked with this group. Me, I was wearing my black puffed thigh length skirt with pink lacing and a pink shirt under the black bodice. It was rather neat to be a part of this group and I was trying my best to fit in, at least it was gothic attire.

They came for him one winter's night. Arrested, he was bound. They said there'd been a robbery, his pistol had been found.
They marched to the station house, he waited for the dawn. And as they led him to the dock, he knew that he'd been wrong. "You stand accused of robbery," he heard the bailiff say. He knew without an alibi, tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom.
Over the hills and far away, for ten long years he'll count the days. Over the mountains and the seas, a prisoner's life for him there'll be.
He knew that it would cost him dear, but yet he dare not say. Where he had been that fateful night, a secret it must stay. He had to fight back tears of rage. His heart beats like a drum. For with the wife of his best friend, he spent his final night of freedom.
Over the hills and far away, he swears he will return one day. Far from the mountains and the seas, back in her arms he swears he'll be. Over the hills and far away.
Over the hills and, over the hills and, over the hills and far away.
Each night within his prison cell, he looks out through the bars. He reads the letters that she wrote. One day he'll know the taste of freedom.
Over the hills and far away, she prays he will return one day. As sure as the rivers reach the seas, back in his arms she swears she'll be.
Over the hills and far away, he swears he will return one day. Far from the mountains and the seas, back in her arms he swears he'll be.
Over the hills and far away, she prays he will return one day. As sure as the rivers reach the seas, back in his arms is where she'll be.
Over the hills, over the hills and far away.
Over the hills, over the hills and far away.

The bartender arrived shortly after the band had begun to sing. Turning in my chair with the beer in my hand, I just took to enjoy the music as I admired the girl that was the lead singer. It had always been my dream to maybe stand on the stage someday and sing, but as life came spinning around the corner, she found other interests and goals in life. At first I had fulfilled my dream to become a dancer, and a good one at that, but then it just became boring and sort of intimidating as the clientele changed and rules where no longer the same rules. It was about that time that I found out about the police and the force and to be honest, it was more the uniformed men that pulled me into it than the law-abiding citizen.
Sitting in the chair, I let my eyes glide across the room, which were a bad habit from my dancing days. I always used to scan the room for possible ‘sugar daddies’ and people to avoid and now that same technique had served me well in certain situations when I was in the force. But with the music and the overall atmosphere I let it slip by this time and instead just leaned back and enjoyed the show while gently nipping to my pint, seeing no point in hurrying it as it seemed that this band would be playing for quite some time.

The song went over rather well as I danced and flowed with the song. The added male vocals on some of the parts was a rather good touch. As we finished the number I scanned the crowd and took a bow. Then in a fluid moment, the bassist moved to me and whispered into my ear. With a nod, I smiled and took a few steps back. At least he was pleased with the way this was going. in fact he was enjoying himself rather nicely it seemed. the keyboardist gave me a reassuring smile. I knew their secret and they had helped me find mine. As the bassist announced our next number, I smiled to the bartender. Soon a waitress was up towards the stage with drinks for the band. Setting them on a stool as the Bassist talked, I quickly drank my water. Since I was still too young for other drinks.
It wasn't long before we began the next number. The bassist walked off the stage to only come back a few moments later looking like a werewolf. He let out a howl and the crowd went whiled. The keyboardist flashed his sharpened teeth as the bassist and I picked up the singing. It was a strange sight, for normal humans A pair of gauzy wings unfurled from my back but for those who could see spirits, there appeared be real feathered wings behind me. We were playing it up for the crowd. And the crowd did not know it was real, they thought it was for stage effect.

Halfway through my beer, the bad finishes their first song and seems to be taking a minute break for some refreshments and other things. Taking the chance, I place my jacket into the chair and motion for the bartender to watch my place and drink while I was going to the bathroom. By the time I came back into the room, I did not notice the band at first as I was trying to make my way over to my seat. But when I threw them a quick glance, I could immediately recognise the scene. ‘Oh great!’ I thought to myself as I sat down into my seat and finished my beer, motioning for the bartender to come my way. “Water please” I ask as I comes within earshot as I begin to study the band.
‘Why? Why couldn’t they just use effects instead of their transformations?’ I begin thinking, as I’m tempted to fish my phone up and report this in to the division, which would likely send out a platoon, which in terms would ruin the life of the band or even take it. Luckily, I had my badge with me, though it was hidden securely within my jacket, but I hadn’t brought the gun which could prove to be a fatal error if things were to get out of control. Looking around to see if there were something else going on, I decided that, when they were done, I would request to have a talk with them, not something about the criminal aspect of what they were doing, but the possible danger and that they should not do such things in public, despite it being for the crowd. I was sure that if Jyn had been around, he would have gone to immediate action, despite it being civilians around, or maybe called into a squad to block of the block and in that way locking them in – me on the other hand preferred the way where nobody would get hurt and nobody would get killed – if it was avoidable.

The crowd was having the time of their lives as we finished this last number and bowed. Then with much cheering and cat calling, they chanted encore. But it would be to no use, for that was the last song of the night and I was rather tired. IF the lady asked, she would be brought to the backstage area that served as our 'dressing room.' The closed door she would be able to hear voices
Back Stage "Marcus, Come out of it" "Dev? Is Marcus' alright" "Yes, sweetheart. Unlike the rest of us, the beast sometimes gets too much of a hold on Marcus' But don't worry, Tobias can hold him until he lets it go. We've have years of practice with him" "Alright" A soft scuffle could be heard and finally Dev spoke again "See there, sweetheart? All better" A shaky voice spoke, but it was too soft and sounded more like a growl. Laughter could be heard as the door began to open.

The last song for the night concluded in cheers and applause as the band bowed and made their way of the stage. I on the other hand had already began moving by the time the applause started to thunder and by the time the band had gotten offstage and back into their dressing room, I would find myself by the door, having put on my jacket and put the badge on its necklace around my neck. Giving the door a two solid knocks, I would slowly begin to push it up while trying to prepare myself for a possible encounter. As the door slowly winded open, I could hear them talk and from what I could gather, they had done this before, however, one of them seemed to be unstable in his form and had problems coming out of it. ‘No turning back now’ I thought to myself as I push the door open and entered the room, making sure that my D12 badge was visible as I stepped into the room, closing the door behind me.
“Nice performance” I said as I let my eyes go between the men and the girl before they rested onto the werewolf. Taking a step closer towards the girl, I would pocket my hands as I look around the room, before turning to one of the men that seemed to be in control of the situation. “You must know why I am here, right?” my voice was of the almost unpleasant sort, the sort of voice the bad guys in movies talk in before something really terrible is about to happen. “Can you get him out of it? Like… now?” I request as I motion towards the werewolf, not taking any risks with going into details when I was outnumbered and confined in a small room with people that could transform.

When the cop knocked no one heard and since she did not announce herself she was pretty much let inside. There was no werewolf by the time she got to where they were sitting. In fact they all looked pretty much normal if not a bit sweaty. But that could have been the lights from the stage. Marcus was pretty much back to looking like the saxon, without his shirt though. Blinking all of them stared at the woman that entered spouting nonsense. The black haired keyboardist stood up and looked from the shield on the necklace to the face of the woman. "Is there a problem officer? Get who out of what?" He was all smiles as I looked at the woman and my face went white almost as white as my hair. They might look normal, but as for me, those gauzy wings were still barely visible to those with the power to see spirits. There were like little wisps that if one tried to focus on them, they would be gone. the black haired one put his hands out as if to say 'no weapons' and spoke again. "You do know that this is an invasion of privacy. Correct?" Dev there must be a lawyer during the day with the slick way he like to talk to people. But I was never one to ask what my fellow musicians did with their day times.

Giving the man a cold stare, I smirk as I take a step closer towards him, using my left hand to brush the hair back behind my ear as I reply to his ‘invasion of privacy’. “No, I can actually do this – as I’m not an ordinary cop” I reply before turning back towards the girl, give her a soft but shallow smile before turning back to the ones that seemed to be the smartest one. “Most people would think you performance to be a nice show, which of course sells, but so it happens that some actually know what you really are…” turning around towards the girl again, my eyes narrow as I can barely make out what would look like a veil in the air. “Now, I hope that you don’t know this, but I assume that your ‘friends’ know what I’m talking about when I say that your performance tonight could get you into serious trouble” I say to the girl, hoping that she was unaware of the system and the consequences behind such activities as transformation. The tension in the air was so thick that I could feel it, but it was a reassuring thought that with a single phone call, I would have backup.

A few blank stares was all she got but as for me, I just looked down into my lap, not knowing what to do. Dev smiled and laughed. "I have no idea what you are talking about Chica. You must be on something. Perhaps we should report you?" Then Marcus sniffed and shook his head as his low voice rumbled as he chuckled. "Dev, I don't smell oil. If you are a cop, lady. Where is your gun?" Dev's eyes lit up and he start to walk towards the door. "If we are so dangerous, why are you here without your weapon, Chica." I looked to the cop and then to the guys. The tension in the room was getting thick and it screamed of violence about to happen. "Marcus, Dev." I spoke up softly in a questioning way as if I did not know what to do and this situation was starting to turn a bit dark.

The fact that he revealed that he couldn’t smell oil proved me right in him not being a normal human, but as the situation turned out now, it had become quiet dangerous, like a room filled with gas and only a single spark would be enough to lead to its explosion. Standing in the same spot, my thumb began to quickly slide over the cell phone as I began typing a message on it while trying not to seem to concentrated with it as I turned to the guy that walked towards the door. It didn’t take many seconds for me to write a message that would stir up some real reaction in metro, at least not when I head sent it directly to Jyn, which I knew always worked overtime. ‘Mayday! Gothstone, Fossgate inn!’ the text had said before it sent through the invisible grid of millions and millions of cables and other system and radio transmitters our the city as it would eventually find its way to Jyn cell.
Narrowing my eyes slightly as I looked towards the man that had now blocked my only exit I would reply to him “Because no one is that stupid to try something against a division officer. Taking a step backwards towards the wall, I would now have both the men in my sight and the girl in the middle as I quickly began to think out a possible scenario and counter measures. However, it was impossible for me to take down both of these on my own, and especially since I did not know how fast they were able to transform, nor if I would be able to beat any of them with mere hand to hand combat. ‘Damn! I should have taken that martial art class’ I thought to myself as my hands exited my pockets and calm rested at my sides as I waited for the cavalry to come, and hopefully I would be able to stall them out long enough for the squad to get in and neutralize them.
Then my thought’s went to the girl, if she was a spirit, she would along with the two males been taken away and the imagine I got form what would happen put a ugly feeling in my gut as I began to think of a way to get her out of the room or finding a way to convince the squad that she was a normal human, just as I was. Nevertheless, it all depending on me actually get out of the room alive – if the squad was to arrive and find me dead, it would escalate things into something that would put the whole city through another war, though this war would be hidden from the eyes of the public and would be fought in the shadows.

Marcus got up, standing to his almost 6 foot height. This brought the drummer to a standing position as his eyes flashed red for a brief moment. It was so quick it could be mistaken for a trick of the light. Dev spoke again as he pulled the door open completely. "Might I make a prudent suggestion, ma'am. Perhaps you should leave before we do more than just ask you to leave. We have done no harm tonight, nor have we done anything outside of our nature. You have no real proof of anything you have said, and we are rather tired of hearing your yappy little mouth." Marcus chuckled as he advanced toward the woman. "aww, but Dev, I was just about to ask if she would like to dance." As all of this started, I whispered to myself more than anyone else, "time stops now" the words I had found so long ago when I had been trapped in the past. Everything halted for everyone but myself and the cop. I looked up at the woman and smiled. "Please don't touch anyone. I can't hold this long." Standing up, I grabbed her hand and started to pull her out the door. If she allowed me to get her out of there and into the hallway she would see that people had stopped in midstep or in the middle of a conversation a little way down the hall. I would lead her towards another set of doors and open them. Slipping out we would find ourselves in a quiet world, no sounds on the street nothing. Then all would resume as the sounds of a city at night on a weekend could be heard.

My heart skipped a beat as the two was closing in on me, and it was maybe the first touch of uncertainty that I had felt in a long time. “You are still violating the law set down by the division! And who do you think they’ll believe? Me, an officer or two guys who actually violated the law in a public place?” I respond to them just seconds before they simply seemed to stop in their tracks. Blinking a few times I notice that they didn’t only stop in their tracks, but also their face stopped in what seemed to be sentences. Not really understanding what had happened I look around me and as I notice that the sounds from the pub are gone, the girl is speaking to me. “eh… ok” I reply as I carefully approach her, bending my body to avoid touching the two. Being pulled after I her, I speed my own walk so that I would be to her side as we left the room. Letting my head look into the pub I can see the same thing happening there as well. It was as if time had stopped. She doesn’t give me much time to take in on what had happened as she drags me through another set of doors which leads to the back alley of the pub. Once out there it does not take, long before the sounds of the city suddenly appears again and the music and cheers from the doors behind us resumes. “What the hell…” I mutter as I turn towards the girl, still holding her hand within my grasp in case she decided to make a run for it. “Care to explain what you just did?” my voice is like a mother’s when her kids had done something that they should not do or was inappropriate.

I glanced at the woman still holding my hand as I leaned against the wall of the back alley and slide to my rear end, exhausted. There was not a drop of guile or deception on my face as I looked up at her. "I stopped time" It was simply said like everyone could do that. Then I shuddered and my power drained from me. "I had to get you out of there. They are not bad men, they just are misunderstood. The crowd thinks its effects and loves it. Just like I'm not a bad person just because I can alter time." I looked down at my knees and sighed. "nothing has been the same since I came back to the city." After a deep breath I stood up on shaking knees and offered a smile to her, "If you want to take me in, I'll come quietly, but please don't mess with them. I don't want to see anyone hurt"

Putting on a unsure smile I bend down as the girl slide do down the wall, seemingly tired from her little time stopping. “Hmm, You are a user as well…” I mutter in a gentle voice as I placed my hand atop her head as she began to explain why she had done it. Suddenly I felt somewhat guilty for sending the message to Jyn, but it was after all my job. Looking out of the alley and onto the street, I knew it would only be a minute or more until the first car would drive up and stop before the people would rush the pub. I hope that by that time I would be gone from the site, with the girl as she had saved me and I would do what I could to save her in return. As she stood up I would let my hand fall to my hip as she say she would come calmly with me to the station. Shaking my head slightly I would bend down so that our eyes were on the same level. “Heh, first we have to get out of here. Second, you saved a officer’s life by using that time altering thing of yours, and I’m sure my boss would like to hear that…” a short pause before I would continue to speak “So I think we should go and see him, as long as you are with me, no other cop would touch you and hopefully my boss would be understanding… aah just one more thing, are you a spirit?” I ask, begging inside me that she would say no at my question and accept the little trip I was offering her.

I gazed at her eyes and nodded. I was naive and innocent. It was my flaw as well as my trait. I trusted people too easily. "Alright. We'll go see your boss." And then I looked at her for a moment thinking about her question. "Not really, maybe, I don't really know what you would call me." I fidgeted with my hands for a moment before looking up to explain. "My father was spirit. But according to my mother's dairies, he was a good one. So far I've only met bad ones" My golden colored eyes got a very haunted look in them as I watched her. "You're not going to hurt me are you? Like some of those spirits did?" There was such a hurt in my soul at the experience with Nova for those two hellish days, that I looked at her with large puppy dog eyes and waited almost expecting to be kicked again. Then the look was gone behind a smile. "I'm sure you wont. You are an officer after all." Grabbing her hand again, I start to walk down the alleyway. "Shall we go talk to your boss then?"

Placing the girl next to one of the cruisers, I would look around to see if I could spot someone that, I could talk to, but to avail. Seeing that the enforcer’s back was opened I figured there would be someone inside watching the SpiriNet and thus I dragged the girl with me over to the back, peeking inside. Inside were two guys, one in a black jacket having the initials ‘D12’in big white letters on the back, while the other were sitting in a green Hawaiian shirt, typing on the SpiriNet. “Officers…” I said as I flashed by badge to them, making them both. The guy with the jacket was wearing glasses, but I could feel that he stared directly at the girl before staring at me. The other person, the technician seemed to be too busy to even give us a proper look before he turned back to the computer. “Please step away from the vehicle miss” the man in the glasses said as he stepped out of the car, adjusting his jacket. Flashing my badge to him once more to get his attention, I would voice my authority. “I need one of the cruisers. Have to grind this girl to Commissioner Asei” I said as I gently clutched the girls hand, hoping that she would remain quiet. The man gave me a suspicious look through his glasses before nodding and handing me the keys. “Ok, we’ll just clean up here and head back as well. Please check the car in at the garage while you’re there.” He said before walking around the enforcer and into the pub, which had now become quiet silent. “Ok girl, get in the front” I said to her as I unlocked the car and walked around it, getting into the driver’s seat, waiting for her to get in and buckle up.

I watch and listen to the interactions of the three of them in my normal silent way. But I had a warm innocent smile on my face as followed her to the car and slid into the passenger seat. Inside the bar, the band had already disappeared before the division could get there. They were not stupid. After coming to and finding their singer and the cop missing, they scattered like seeds on the wind. They figured their singer was strong enough to distract people, even if it was by mistake. So they would not b caught by the little nosy chick cop. Me, I would let her take me into metro and to her commander, whoever that was and I hoped that I would not be hurt, but something kept nagging at me. My mother had always said to beware of the suits. And I was still trying to figure out if that was just another raving of her mad mind during the final days of her life. But still, something nagged at me.

Putting the car into gear before turning the key in the ignition to get the car starting, I would slowly back away from the curb before putting the car into drive and slowly drive away from the bar. A minute of silence went by as I drove through a light stop and as we were out of it and onto the road with little cars, I would turn to the girl and give her a smile. “We haven’t introduced yet have we? My name is Nikki,” I said as I reached her my hand in a handshaking manner, while having my eyes on the road. My mind began to wonder off as to how Jyn would react, hell if we ever were going to get in and see him. I knew about the SpiriNet inside the Metro. It had a reputation to blast away at spirits, even those working for the division! Letting out a silent sigh I clear my mind of such awful thoughts and turn to the girl again. “If you are hungry, we can stop on the way. I know of a very good place just a few blocks away from here, have the best wraps and Panini’s in the area.
