Arrival at the docks

The air is cold and gloomy as the ship slowly makes its way into the harbor of SaiCity, a city of opportunity and money. The deck had become quite crowded as the ship came closer to the pier. Up on the stern of the large container freighter, was a lone man, his long black coat and gray hair waved in the cold wind as frost followed his every breath. His right hand held a rolled up cigarette while the left were resting on the railing, prevent anyone from falling over the side. It had taken a considerable sum of money to get the fake passport and ride across the ocean and now he could finally see it, see the place he had wanted to go for so many years. A place of opportunity, a place where he wasn’t who he used to be back home. The horn chimes across the deck as the ship begins to dock and everyone begin to go back inside, except for him – he stood there alone on the stern, slowly smoking his cigarette and studied the lit up skyline of the city.

As the ship began to dock and eventually hit the pier with a loud ‘dunk’ he began to make his way down towards the exit and head down to the landing ramp. The corridors were filled with people rushing to get out and into the city before anyone would try to stop, such as emigration, which would only put them onto the next ship back over the sea. Walking down the ramp, he stops for a short second to inhale the cold night air before continuing his slow walk down the ramp and onto the concrete pier. Down at the pier there were not only groups of people waiting for their relatives, but also small busses, cars and trailers waiting for people that had bought transportation out of the harbor area. This man however walked alone and was not greeted by anyone, but instead walked down the road in the darkness, heading straight for the city.
