Rat tat tat tat……rat tat tat tat…..rat tatatatat….
Hell. The city of Gera'Sey. Its approxmtly 30 minutes to sun down. Earlier that week a rather monumental event had occured that had changed the land scape of Onitoshi for good. Literally. Two Hogashas fighting it out, and one jackass with meteor powers. It was never a good formula. Regardless for the most part Gera'Sey had escaped unscathed. However there was the question of the huge freakin crater that had wiped out a good portion of solvay forest and had left a large hole in the earth too near the city for comfort. Standing at the western most edge of the crater were two figures. One. The Archdemon and founder of Gera'Sey. The demon Pennywise. And one of his guards. Jonah. Penny had a rather questioning look on his face. Staring into the crater for what seemed to be a vast ammount of time.
The look on his face told of someone who was deeply thinking about this, that there was perhaps something that he was planning or perhaps considering about the whole thing. The guard Jonah looked on, for a moment thinking that his boss may have just realised that Gera'Sey was more vulnerable than he would have liked to think.At this stage Penny moved his hand down away from his chin and turned to Jonah. "..Hm...That hole...it wasn't there before was it?". For Jonah, this was one of those moments were he took time to realise just who he was working for. And that he should have known better than to expect some sort of dynamic response. Quietly he stared into the crater and replied with. " No sir". He rubbed his eyes. " It wasn't". Penny's face changed to a rather quizszical look. The archdemon wondering just what was bothering his guard. " Oh. Ok then".
If one thing could be said for working in the Gera'Sey guard it was that thingsunder the lord of madness certainly never got boring. The man was insane but strangely intellegent.And ran the city rather effectively all things considered. And then there was how he had led them during that battle. Greatly outnumbered and outgunned. And yet still they'd managed to inflict significant horrors upon their enemies. He was effective. Strange, no way anyone was denying that. But effective none the less. Unknown to his little friend though, Penny was consdiering just what he'd want to do with this hole. It was a scar on the landscape and a rather ugly one at that. It would fill out eventually but then one would be a fool not to try and take advantage of something like that. In effect the large crater had created a dividing point on Gera'Sey. Seperating the flat land and introducing an artfical uphill for any enemies of Gera'Sey.
Combined with the defenses hew as already building it would be good forn keeping opponents out. At least. From this side of the city. It wasn't so exposed, but still. Then there was also the question of just what secrets this hole contained.Perhaps nothing. But then within the earth there tended to be deposits of metals, there could be the possibility for a mine. Exporting metals, self sufficent weapon creation enhanced. Several oppertunities to bring up. But he'd have to act quickly on that and claim it for the city. Gera'Sey was after all the grey zone of Onitoshi. It was a place were merchants gathered. And those greedy bastards would no doubt have the same ideas as him concerning the possibilities for this crater. Despite being ArchDemon it wouldn't quite be in his own best interests to look like too much of a self supporting tyrant. Well too much of one anyways
There was also the option of trying to make the palce look as pretty as possible. Not really his thying but he was sure there was one demon or another in Gera'Sey that could take care of that. The purpose behind turning it into a " national park?". Raise a monument to those who had lost their lives in fighting against their fellow demons for the fate of Sai city. It would make him look like at least a thankful leader. One who cared about his men and the sacrifices that they had made. Which he did. In truth he'd had no idea when he summmoned those troops that they'd be facing those kinds of odds in the first place. If he had, he probably wouldn't have risked it. Regardless of Shiori's involvement. " Thinking about that girl again?". Jonah spoke up, taking him by surprise. His own thoughts had for the moment at least taken him away into a dream world imagining all the things he could do with this. He slanted his eyes slightly. He liked Jonah. The Oni was smart, and had extensive experience in espionage. He was usually quiet.
And despite them both having vastly different personalities they seemed to get along rather well. He just had to wonder though what had gave away that his thoughts had drifted to Shiori. " You mean Shiori?...What makes you think that?". Jonah was quiet for a moment and then spoke up. "...For one I only said girl. I could have been meaning any number of females that are here or in the human world...second...your face always makes a sort of frowning expression whenever you think about her". He raised an eyebrow. A frowning expression? Really? He had absolutely no idea he was pulling any kind of face let alone a frown. " People make tell tale expressions all the time". Jonah answered as if he was some sort of mind reader, which upon remembering he was an Oni. Penny thought was a real possibility. " You just have to learn how to watch for the right ones". It was an interesting thought. Perhaps he'd try it sometime.
He sat at the edge of the crater after having phoned in a call for the arcitecht to come out. The old man knowing him would probably take his sweet time. Jonah looked at Penny, who was now sitting at the edge of the crater swinging his legs back and forth. Easily amused. " Boss I hope you don't mind me asking but". Penny looked at Jonah, wondering just what it was that the usually quiet Oni wanted. " Hm?". Jonah looked down, for a moment hesitating. And then going ahead with it. " Just why did we take the side of the humans? What were we fighting for?". Penny knew this would eventually come up, his legs stopped swinging and he elt out a sigh. He had no real ideas of conquest and for the most part the army of Gera'Sey was a defense force. So leading a portion of it inot the human world to defend the human world when it was being attacked by demons who could very well be its citzens. Would likely make very little sense. And, he didn;t really have an answer. What could he say? That the entire reason he'd built Gera'Sey and its army was to help protect one human girl? What if the truth of that ever did come out. That the core. The heart of Gera'Sey was actually a human female. There would be questions as to his right to lead.
His abilities, revolts in his own factions. It would be an absolute nightmare. But looking at Jonah he suspected the man already knew the truth. At least for the reason behind the army being there." I see". Said Jonah, once again taking Pennywise by surprise. He pointed to his face. And Penny realised. Thoughts of Shiori, frowning face. Damned instant reactions. Penny shrugged and looked out over the crater. " I made an oath to protect her". He tapped the side of his leg. " And I'll see it through". Jonah shook his head. " Saw how you looked at her boss". Penny looked right at the guard, and Jonah would now get the idea that he was toeing on a very dangerous line in the sand. One he wouldn't want to cross. " And I saw how she looked at you". For a second he fell quiet. Somewhat surprised again. " Not the same". There was a slight feeling of. Disappointment. Outrage even at the diea of it. But even with all these fluxing emotions all Penny could find was. Knowing. Acceptance. It was...something he already knew.
" I'm aware".
There was quiet now. Then he looked out over the crater and the horizon again. " I think for awhile I had myself fooled that there could have been something there...perhaps I truely am the Lord of Madness for believing that one". He let out a laugh, but it was one that was forced. Tindged with slight sadness. " She saved me, showed me that there was more than just the alleyway I was stuck in, showed me a life that I could have beyond my despair...for that..she earned more than my loyalty...She'd been in love with someone before. Someone important who broke her heart. I came in and". Jonah nodded. Understanding. " I don't plan to get involved. I'll fulfill my oath, and be there for her when she needs me. But beyond that". Jonah looked into the horizon as well. It was rare that the Oni spoke this much. And it was rarer he'd even give advice. "..Its not many times our kind bothers with feelings like that. Becareful. You are a good leader. And we need you as you are". Jonah went quiet again. Penny thought about it. And, he was right. He had a lot of responsibility now. People were relying on him. Jonah spoke up one last time, removing an apple from his jacket. Penny removed a cigarette from his, putting it in his mouth. " This won't end well. You know that". Penny stared ahead, and lit it up. Blankly stating as he did before.
" I'm aware".
Bite of an apple, draw of the cigarette. Two men sitting on the edge of a crater discussing love whilst watching a sun set in a totally non homoerotic scene. It was beautiful. But this conversation wasn't finished. Penny knew that much and didn't like it. But there was little he could do about it. It was on a till later. For now Jonah had established that his boss had feelings for a human of all things. And had vowed to protect her, owed her loyalty. The next question it didn't take a genius to figure out. What would happen if it came down to a choice between her. And Gera'Sey. Between defending her. And the people of his city. The sad thing was. He honestly didn't know. And this idea split him. His loyalty to Gera Sey presented a rather logical argument. That shew as just a human. That, yes, she had taken him in. Given him a purpose in the human world but. Was she willing to risk herself for him? If it came down to a choice between himself and Jyn, which would she choose? He feared. He knew the answer to the latter. And it was that, whcih fuelled his main point. Was she as loyal to him, as he was to her? Did she hold him in such regard as to forsake all else? Gera'Sey and its people. His followers, would follow him into hell ( metaphorically speaking of course). And then there was his heart. Drawing in on the cigarette once more he looked to the sun set and blew out the smoke.
He always had stern thoughts. Doubts. But the moment she hugged him or was near him. The moment he saw that smile or heard her talking. All doubts seemed to be washed away in a tide of ephoria. It was foolish. Idiotic. And absolutely. Wonderful. The Lord of Madness didn't know the answer to this question and...highly doubted he would for a very long time. But it gave him something to think on for now. And perhaps something to bring up with Shiori the next time she decided to visit. Or if she ever did. Perhaps he'd have to look into going to her. No doubt it would end badly there too. But perhaps. It was something that needed to be done.
