In the past (before his vaspire turning), while staying in the place where Yamamoto sensei had told him to be, it was a strenuous life outside of learning to use the blade; he had to fish in a boat with other students and sell fish for their own money to support themselves. It was rather annoying to be with the others, and as a boy who knew the waters, it was rather annoying that they did not know what to do on the small boat that they were on. They first had to trek through the jungle to the fishing grounds and that in its self was not easy. He and the others had to defend themselves, and that was only really possible due to their techniques. Rei was the only one using Sonic Slash, while a few others used pure martial arts to just get to the boat its self. A low sigh came from the human as he looked up at the sky. He really wondered why they had to do this by themselves and not with others. As the group arrived at the boats, he asked them in a loud, serious tone, "Does anyone know the rules about being on a boat? We need to know if there are any first timers." Several would nod and Rei would nod back as he said, "Simple, really. Rule one: no rough housing. A boat is only as stable as you make it. Rough housing will make it harder to control. Rule two: no standing. This will unbalance the boat. And rule three: be patient. We'll likely be out here for a while." Some would nod and thank him while others didn't even bother to listen to him and moved to their boat. He shook his head and get on a boat with his group. They all had mesh nets to get their fist, and he would help them fold it in the correct manor: this way they could just unload it off the boat and wait. They shoved off and into the water as he muttered to himself, "Those others had best be ready..." He would only smile lightly as he watched the other groups start to go into the water without thinking. Shaking his head, Rei showed them the best place to go- not due to knowledge of this river more north of the village, but from what he saw. The others had grouped together down stream. He had them upstream for a reason- they others could scare the fish in both direction with their frustration and little knowledge of fish. His group would wait patiently as he had instructed, and this would last a few hours. His gray eye shown into the sky as he did a bit of meditation while he waited. It wasn't the type one did in a hall or house- he was focused only on the sounds around him, and the movement in the boat. He only opened his eyes when the guy testing the net spoke out clearly, "Yun, the net feels heavy." Getting out of the meditation, he would go to him and call to the others, "Give us some help, please." The others seemed to grumble, but complied and came over to assist him with gaining the fish from the lake for their pay of Shinny.

With a smirk, the group was able to easily pull up the catch, and with a quick glance, Rei commented in a joking way, "I wonder if we'll be able to carry it all." The three on his boat would all chuckle and laugh as they started their row to shore. Others in the other boats roared with rage and he would simply laugh at the fools, for how they had tought that they would get more fish then his group. The smile on his face would soon fade as they arrived at shore. The catch was heavy, and there was no dock to help them. He would assist them in getting near and said, "I'll get out and we can hopefully only ruin the bottom of the load. I really hope we don't drop it." The other two would nod as they came into the "port" and every one of them had to lug the weight of the net. It was luck that a passing man with a cart agreed to let them have it, as he would not need it. Apparently he had finished building a new one. Rei and the other two now had a way to ruin less of the fish and hulled the catch back to the city with good time. With the amount, they would have the salt the fish to make it last, so they took it to the house of the student who had done the least work of the three. There, they would all pick out the good and the bad, putting salt on the good. Rei was smiling as he remembered doing this with his family and now he was doing it with his qusai family. Maybe this trip was turning out better then he had hoped. After about an hour of sorting, Rei said, "Now we just need to sell the fish... this should actually be the easy part. Load up the third best, and we'll take them to market. Then tomorrow, we'll bring our second best. And then the next day, the best. Its an old selling trick." Nodding, the three of them would begin the work of loading the fish, smiles on their faces. With the fish picked out, the trio would load them onto the back of the wagon and then the three students would head out to the market, pushing through the crowd to the stand that their teacher had set up. A smile on his face, Rei remembered the old days when he did something very similar with his parents. They would make a decent selling on that first day, and Rei was feeling great about it all.
