Quest: Setting Ground Rules

king The fifth floor. Almost to the top. The space is leased from the Benefactor Group and the sixth floor is all his. Still, I have a nice view of the city on one side and the east side of the Lower Commons. Standing at the window looking out towards the Lower Commons, there are two smaller desks adjacent on opposing sides with data discs. The desk on my left is far more cluttered with discs and info chip reports from disturbances in the Lower Commons. No matter how many missions I coordinate to hinder dark demon activity there, more incidents occur. It dawns on me in this situation that perhaps I must take another approach now. I am not a fan of violence myself, but I legitimately recognize its importance. I will take a team of operatives working out of my office as well as one of my current client groups that are preparing to launch an offensive against a small-time criminal outfit. This outfit is said to work for a known demon gang that is raising hell in South Lower Commons. That area of SaiCity has the highest crime rate and the worst demon activity. I figure if I eliminate this outfit, we'll be sending a message that I'm planning to increase my coordinator efforts to really start putting a dent in the dark activities.

I check my messages and load the activity report. Seeing the volume of red dots and skulls in the Lower Commons, I contact Carmina and ask her to set up a tactical meeting between our team and the mercenary client. She agrees while I bring up the latest intel report on the criminal outfit. At the same time, I review the incident reports in their area. I need to know as much about what they're doing as possible, so I can calculate the best opportunity to strike them!

Carmina speaks over my comm link and tells me that the meeting is set for this afternoon at 2:30. I agree to the terms and tell her to set up Conference Room 3 for the meeting. I want this operation ready to commence tomorrow if possible. She tells me that she will do as I ask and inquires to my preference in regards to which team of mine I take with me. I tell her that I have no preference either way and she d/c the comm to get to work. Inside of my office, I return to the report and compiling my own entry into our systems for my summary version. These summaries are used for studies as well as evidence to support certain operations and risks.

king The meeting time rolls around and I am sitting in the conference room going over some files and mapping out the plan with the PsiCoven team assigned to look after and assist me. The leader of the group asks me how I plan to strike multiple targets at once and I smile. "I'll handle the coordination. You just worry about making sure that you and your men can get the job done." He looks at me and just nods. He prepares to ask another question and I raise my hand with my index and middle finger extended together to silence him. Carmina opens the door and gestures at the different sides of the octagon shaped table. She moves over to stand by where my seat will be.

Three other factions move in and I nod to each of them. One of them I am quite familiar with as I've helped them on a few previous occasions and their leader chuckles, "So you're finally planning to get those manicured hands dirty?" I smirk and remark back, "Of course not. I'm joining you all to make sure that you don't take all day and all night! I have plans for tomorrow night." He laughs and I welcome the other two groups. The company has worked with one of the other factions, but I was not the person to aid them and the third group is completely new. The PsiCoven-hired team sits on both sides of my position.

The small talk is very brief. "I'm glad everyone was able to make it here. In this new location there is far more security in case you were wondering why your weapons were confiscated. You all know why we're here, so let's get to work so you can relay the plan to your teams and we can be prepared for tomorrow." I look up at Carmina and the lights dim. The new group looks around trying to figure out how that happened and I smirk, "Relax. You're still safe." The holographic projection of the area that we will be assaulting comes up. "You all know this neighborhood in the Lower Commons. All three of you have contracts against the gang that runs this area. We're going to cripple them. The gold location is their main base of operations where the money, documents, and main leadership will be at tomorrow, the silver location is their main production and storage facility for their illegal narcotics, and the bronze location is the primary area for pushing their product and said to be where they keep people they've basically enslaved into service." Faction 2 raises their hand and inquires, "If we get that location, are the junkies there, expendable?" I shrug and tell him that I don't dictate how they carry out their missions since I'm not the ones who contracted them. "My capacity is as your strategic consultant to help you maximize your efficiency. The addicts may have families who will be grateful or vengeful depending on your actions. If you are planning on destroying the product, the addicts might interfere to protect the product, so you have to be mindful of that possibility as well." They nod to me now having a better understanding of my role in all of this.

"This is how this will work. The raid on the silver location will commence first, followed five minutes later by the bronze raid. This should stir up enough confusion that the thugs they might call back to protect the leadership will be sent back out to protect those locations. The gold raid is meant to take place fifteen to thirty minutes after the silver raid as that will give ample time for the confusion to really settle in. Each of these locations are in the same neighborhood, so I will be positioned near the main base to provide my tactical support while things are taking place. Now let's take a more detailed look at each location..."

The holographic model focuses on the bronze location first and continues in order to silver and finally gold. The gold location will be handled by the team I'm most familiar with. I am assuming that the team that asked about the drug addicts will be assaulting the bronze location. For me, each location is simply another target for me to help them accomplish their objectives. Once the briefing on the plans is finished, I ask them if they have any questions. The new group asks, "Now you said that you will be coordinating from a location near the main building, where exactly will you be?" Carmina looks at him and he clutches his head. A mercenary from the familiar faction speaks up, "That was a misstated question for sure." His faction laughs about it and I raise my hand for Carmina to stop. The vigilante looks at me and apologizes. The leader of my "security detail" speaks up, "Mr. Prince will be safe, so you don't have to worry about losing communication with him. You should be more careful about how you ask someone that you have never worked with before certain things. As you can see, his security is our top priority." The leader of that group apologizes as well and we conclude the meeting.

The two newer factions are escorted out by members of my security detail and I remain behind with the gold faction. Once everyone is gone, Carmina sets an electronic scanning device that makes sure that there are no surveillance devices or anything like that. Once she is assured that things are secure, a new model comes up and the faction looks at it. The leader chuckles and tells me that I am one very paranoid individual and he loves that about working with me. "Your raid will actually take place thirty minutes before the silver raid not after. The points of entry that they saw are not the ones that I would suggest you using unless I tell you otherwise. You want to bring teams in here, here, and here. You can actually get a full squad into the building within a minute this way. From there, they can move quickly to strike the security and communications room, secure the "armory", and start clearing a path to the main meeting room. Strangely enough, the outer window does not have armored glass, so you could actually bring a team thru the outer window in conjunction with the door teams. Another option is having a sniper team positioned on two or three adjacent rooftops with semi-automatic sniper rifles. As soon as the storm teams reach the door, the snipers open fire to draw attention and security towards the windows so when the storm teams rush in, they'll be exposed." The leader looks at me and nods. He tells me that his sniper team has been getting antsy, so it's a good idea to get them back in the game. The sniper lead grins mischievously and I realize that he really has been waiting for the opportunity to use his sniper skills. I nod and run them through the proposed movement patterns to reduce expected resistance in securing their target locations within the building. I tell them that if they can avoid prolonged firefights, they should be in and out as the silver raid takes place. I tell them that silencers are important if they want to make sure that the underlings from the silver and bronze locations or the police force doesn't show up. They nod and agree and I ask if they have any other questions or anything. They look at one another and shake their heads. I nod to them and rise from my chair. "I'll talk to all of you tomorrow then. Everything is ready. Time to execute." They nod and I get up and return to my office with Carmina as the remaining security detail shows them out.

The next day, my security detail secures an apartment that's actually across the street from the main base. A young woman dressed like a local greets me at the door with one of my guards flanking me. To an onlooker, it would seem like I'm some rich kid that is dating a girl from the inner city. We head up to the room and she leads me inside. I ask them where the main team is currently at and they tell me that they are moving into position as we speak. I tell them that I am not to be bothered. I walk into the bedroom and close the door. Looking around, there are too many windows in here and it smells weird. I leave out and head into the other bedroom. This looks like this normally belongs to a... I walk out and look at the security detail. The leader walks towards me and he is lifted into the air. "You are holding people hostage in their own home?!" I have to force myself not to kill him as I really want to right now. I drop him and tell the second in command to bind and gag him and move all of them into the smelly room. The team does it as I move into the kitchen then back into the living room and finally just get fed up with trying to find a place to sit and tell them to disperse thru the building to make sure that there is an escape route available should things go awry. They obey and leave me except for the guard that accompanied me here. He stays by the door and my body floats into the air as I sit cross-legged in levitation. The Crystalvision orb forms in front of my hands formed as if to push something forward.

Observing the gold faction, I watch as they execute the plan flawlessly. The comm room is secured first, followed almost immediately by the security room being neutralized with a gas attack. The comm and security room teams secure the Armory. The sniper team holds position and identifies the primary players in their scopes to make sure that they are the first to die. The "path cutter" team sweeps thru quickly before waiting at the door. I tell them to put a charge on the door to add to their element of surprise and the other two teams arrive at the far side entrance to the room. "Sniper team, Scorpio." I watch as they take their rifles off of safety to semi-automatic fire. Path cutter team tells me that the charge is ready and once the sniper team hears that, they open fire on their targets. Like clockwork, each head hits the table. The charge is set off and the two securing teams kick in the far side door. The combined forces open fire and it's a total massacre. I have to admit that I really enjoy watching the vile scum of this city being terminated like this. Once the room is purged, they sweep the room and over the next ten minutes, there's a systematic sweep of the buildings' hot spots to collect as much money, product, and useful data discs and such from this place as they can manage. As they are heading out, a van pulls up in front of the building and they load it up on their way out. They tell me that they were successful and they are returning to their base. We disconnect the Redfang earpiece channel and I switch to the next. The silver raid begins followed by the bronze raid. I don't give as much feedback for those raids as they are pretty cut and dry. I had more of a vested interest in seeing the head of this organization being taken out. With these events handled, I call for my team and we make our way out of South Lower Commons and back to East City. A good day's work to finally see some progress. This would be a message sent loud and clear that cancers to our society would be eradicated one by one if we have to.
