The doors of the elevator open and before us are mahogany "shields" that cover the glass wall that slides open. "This is a private access elevator. Only executives have the code to use this elevator. On normal days, you will use the eastern elevator which is conveniently near your parking space." Stepping off the elevator, the flooring is a dark gold carpet like material. Directly ahead is the main receptionist's desk where the calls are fielded and already she seems to be quite busy fielding calls. She looks at me and I shake my head so she tells the caller that I'm not in my office right now, so she'll transfer them to my assistant or one of the consultants to assist them. We turn to the right as this is the side where Alexis will be working. Once we turn, this space is much bigger with a line of eight offices along the far wall. There is a break room and supply room back to back in the center and along the near side wall are the conference rooms for larger meetings. We walk along the near side wall where she is able to peer into the conference rooms. The mahogany wood grain table has several slots for digital displays as well as a Live Definition projector in the center of the conference room. All of the chairs are top quality leather. The flooring inside the conference room is a slightly plusher carpet. The break room has two sections to it that can be viewed when passing. One section is for watching LD entertainment or shopping using the Realm hub that we have set up there and there is also the full-size kitchen with a culinary arts extern that works here to prepare snacks during the day. They were a gift from the Benefactor, so I would assume that if they successfully complete this, he will be placing them in one of his higher end restaurants or hotels to work. The supply room is filled with stuff. I have no idea what all is actually in there since I never venture into that place, but I know there are forms and supplies.

We make it to the end of the walkway and on the door is an engraving of "Alexis Andrews" and below it reads, "Lead Assistant Office Manager, PsiCoven Corporate Strategy Consulting". I ask her if she is ready to see her new office. I had taken the liberty to have one of our "probes" from the coven find out some information on her "quietly" in order to provide her with optimal comfort. While on the other side of the office we are training "Psychic Infiltrators", our probes simply gather harmless information. Her favorite playlist was one example of this tactic being used and the setup of her office was another. Some might consider it an invasion of privacy, but she works for me, so I'm supposed to know these things. I step to the side and point at the scanner. "The Benefactor has some really interesting security mechanisms. Place your hand on the keypad and the system will enter your information. After that, you'll be able to simply stand before the door and it will open for you. Quite useful if your hands are full. There is a keypad on the other side as well that will allow you to enter an access code that can lock the door when you're in a meeting and the scanner will appear red as it does now. Obviously, when it's green, the doors will open whenever someone stops in front of your door. The yellow setting lets people know that you are working, but not in a meeting. The door only opens on voice command from you or inputting the access code. Carmina and I are the only two people here with master codes to all of the rooms and offices here. Well... let's have a look at your new office, Ms. Andrews."

Moving Into the New Office Pt 2 (Alexis) Lexipost

Standing there, heart pounding a tattoo within my chest, I wait for the elevator doors to open and reveal the new office. Immediately as the doors part to reveal the mahogany 'shields' my mind runs through a 'what if' scenario involving a malfunction of the mechanics and being trapped on one side or the other. Before my body could go into full panic mode Psyre's words restore a small amount of calm. I won't be using this particular elevator on a regular basis. Hopefully the eastern elevator, the one for normal employees, wouldn't be as remarkable as this executive one.

With that moment behind us I was free to appreciate the splendor and beauty the lobby area has to offer. It was much different than any office I had ever seen and worlds away from the basement that once was my work space. The carpet even looked too nice to walk on but since my boss was already making his way towards the right, I was forced to step out onto the golden threads. The journey past the conference and break room was almost overwhelming. How would I ever be comfortable working in such a lavish place? I would have never imagined myself in a place like this, not in a million years... and to think that all of this became possible after a chance meeting over dinner. The stars were definitely in my corner that night the hostess seated Psyre Prince next to me at a hibachi table. Maybe I should go back there and give her a large sum of money to thank her.

Following Psyre, trying not to look like a fool with my jaw hanging wide open, I am led past the conference rooms and break room with full kitchen complete with a chef. If I were not feeling the very real effects of all of this within my body I would swear that I was walking through a dream. I am able to note the location of the supply room, one of the two most important rooms to find upon entering a new office. The other is of course the bathroom, which I haven't seen yet and would be sure to find right after Psyre leaves me to my own devices.

At the end of the walkway we come to a stop before the door to a private office. Closer inspection reveals that it is, in fact, my office... the engraved nameplate clues me in on this. The question of whether or not I am ready to see my new office is answered by a hesitant, almost fearful, nod. There was no turning back now, no pinching myself to wake up and return to the real world. This was my real world now, and evidently it was complete with handprint identification screens. At least that's what I assume the panel to the side of the door is, the one Psyre tells me to place my hand before explaining all the other technicalities about my office door and how the system thingy works. Since I trust the man, not that I really have any choice in the matter now, I place my hand on the screen and wait for it to read my information or whatever it was that it was doing. After a few seconds with my hand on the panel the glow shifts from red to green and the door slides open to reveal what could only be described as my perfect working space.

Unlike the decor of the rest of the place, my office was the opposite of luxurious. It was still decorated nicely but not in the upscale and extravagant manner that we had passed on the way in. Where the wooden accents outside of my office were dark and rich mahogany, inside they were a more inviting honey hue. The room was bright and airy with sheer curtains for the windows to give some measure of privacy while still letting in the natural light. The carpet was a toned down bone color rather than the gold we had walked on to get here. Most of the decor I would like could have easily been perceived from observing my personality but once my eyes fall on the artwork donning the walls I knew the investigation had gone a bit deeper. Psyre had never been inside my apartment, nor had anyone else from the company to my knowledge so how would they know what art I had on my walls there? The framed prints here weren't exactly the same as the ones I had at home but they were from the same collection, perfect compliments to the ones I had purchased myself. Turning away from the walls, I look to Psyre with a raised eyebrow. "First my favorite songs and now my choice in art? Are you sure you're not spying on me, Mr. Prince?" There was a hint of laughter in my voice, but an undertone that would let him know there was some seriousness in my question. "I do love the office, thank you. It's perfect."

Standing in the doorway, I observe the young woman's office. I could not say that I am surprised that it is "downplayed" from the rest of the office, but I have come to expect that from Alexis. While I am able to fly without engines, she is becoming my gravity to keep me grounded. Her likes and tastes are bare and simple as to prevent me from wastefully spending money on unnecessary decadence. The artwork in the office is interesting. Not really my thing at least not from this artist it would seem, but it is easy on the eyes. I was wondering why the costs for the windows weren't uniform and this would be why. I smile and nod in approval. Walking in, I make my way over to the desk and smile with another nod of approval. "Your files are gathered here in the order that they were found on your old desk. Also, you will notice that I took the liberty of having of cyber specialists scan everything on data discs. Your computer should be cataloging all of your files as we speak. So much more organized and easy to manage. Efficiency is key, Ms. Andrews." I head towards the door and stop when I hear the question. "No need to mask a question like that. I will not find it offensive as I am assured that nothing you say to me is spoken with ill intent, Alexis. I am glad that you like your office. I do not spying on my own employees. It's a misuse of resources, but I do have profiles compiled on everyone. Carmina is responsible for it to ensure my safety and to make sure that PsiCoven's employees are as comfortable as I can make them to increase the productivity and morale of our workforce." I look at her then at the paintings, "Who is this artist? I am not that familiar with their work."

Yay! My files were all still in the same order! There is a benevolent higher being somewhere out there, one other than Psyre and his mystery benefactor. When the information comes out about the computer organizing my files as we speak, I flash a grin at my boss and nod my head. "I agree with that. Efficiency is key but hard copy backups are a necessary evil, you never know when technology will let you down and leave you in the dark. That's why I prefer to update files in both areas just in case something ever goes wrong. Also, how would you feel about backing up the computer on zip disks and storing them in an alternate location in case of office fire or some other ungodly event?" I know I probably seem anal about the files but working with them exclusively for a while you learn about every mishap that can possibly happen and hopefully come up with ways to fix or prevent them.

A nod is all that comes in response to the man's reply about having people spying on me. I didn't think he would really go that far but the artwork was sort of freaky. The artist is not that well known, at least not around this city. When asked about the artist I could feel warmth and color seep into my face. "The artist is a young man who started sketching and painting to kill time and avoid the nuns that ran the orphanage where he lived out his childhood. When he came of age a couple years ago, he struck out on his own and moved away to make something of himself. He hasn't come back here since. I don't even know how they found his work around here, I had to have mine shipped in." From him directly, but I left that part out. No need to tie his story to my own by mentioning the fact that we were in the orphanage together or that the girl in three out of the four pictures hanging on these walls was me back then. Thankfully I have the more recent works on my walls at home, the ones that are obviously my image. These prints were the ones where half of my face was obstructed or where I was shown from the back, they were the thoughtful scenes, the ones some would call lonely.

Shaking my head, I just look at Alexis and smile. She is so adorable to me at times. "Ms. Andrews, you have an assistant that will handle those sort of tasks. I don't pay you what I do for you to make back up copies of files that I have on data discs. The files themselves are saved in three separate locations from what was explained to me. First they are saved on the building server, those files are saved on a private archive for PsiCoven in a secure location as well as in the archive vault of the Benefactor Group. I trust that they are safe and you should too. When you open up your e-mail server, you'll find a list of objectives for you to get started on. This is your opportunity to prove to me that you are a sound investment. Do so and you'll continue to grow with PsiCoven. Do you have any other questions or concerns, Ms. Andrews?" Carmina makes her way down the hall to my location and I turn to look at my companion and often guardian who approaches and greets Alexis asking her how she likes her new office. Her eyes look at me and let me know that there is something that requires my attention on the other side. I nod to her and wait to see if Alexis needs anything else from me as I want to make sure that she is comfortable in her new surroundings before I head off to handle my affairs.

Great, now I felt like an idiot. That seemed to happen every time I actually tiptoe out on a limb and open my big mouth. Sheepishly nodding to let Psyre know that I do trust the security measures and will immediately check my email and get to work on the objectives assigned to me, I begin to move around behind my desk. About that time Carmina appears and is greeted by a polite smile from me.

"Yes ma'am, I love it. I'll be fine, you two go take care of whatever you need to, I'll get right to work and make up for my late arrival. Thank you again, both of you." I was looking forward to immersing myself in the work, especially with the hopes of it chasing away the lingering guilt about the late start that I had gotten today. My goal for the rest of the day was to work quickly and efficiently, skip as many breaks as possible, to round out the day on schedule.

I chuckle and Carmina looks at me and says, "I believe she wants to get to work." I smirk at Carmina's obvious assessment and nod to Alexis with my usual "Ms. Andrews" before turning to exit the room and proceed back up the hallway towards the western side to the "other suite". There is some issue that needs my attention which most likely is going to be a contractual dispute. We turn the corner and the door to Alexis' office closes. I suppose it is time for me to get to work. Alexis' car would be parked in the garage on the eastern side with a bow on it. The keys have a PsiCoven keychain on them so hopefully if she's having a bad day, she can look at the keychain and there will be some pleasant thought or memory that comes to her to cheer her up. When I hear the raised voices, my demeanor changes from the jovial and benevolent employer that Alexis spent the morning with into the disciplinarian that this side of the office knows me to be. Upon seeing me the room falls silent. "Conference room... now... all of you." It was time to lay down the law of the new office since we would be under the watchful eye of the Benefactor. The coordinators head into the conference room and the door closes behind Carmina and myself...

After Psyre and Carmina leave my office, I settle in behind my new desk and check the file stacks to make sure they were in fact still in order, which they were. Since I didn't have to reorganize them it only took me a few minutes to finish up what had to be done to them and then to update the very same files in the computer system. Once that was out of the way I checked the new email server Psyre had mentioned to see what else I would need to get done today. Judging by the list it would take me from now until the end of the day to make a significant dent, even with my plan to skip lunch. In all there was enough work on there to keep me busy for most of the week. Maybe that is the point, give me a week's worth of work at one time and see how long it takes me to get through it all. That would be one way to figure out if I was a sound investment or not, which is what Psyre had specifically mentioned. I could only hope that my work ethic and efficiency were up to his undoubtedly high standards.
