With his running through the streets to avoid the rain, the young male reached his inn, muttering about the cold and wet outside before he pulled the cloak off and nodded to the inn keeper, who was also a bar keeper. The man would nod back and Rei walked up the stairs towards his room. It was irritating to be going in now, but the bar might provide him with what he wanted. Drinking away his problems wasn't something he was into, he was just going to get a bit of water. Walking down with a tire treed, he would look around the corner before entering the bar. It looked innocent enough for him to enter, nothing that he needed to use his justice on. He would keep the blade with hi, thought. One never knew when trouble could arise. Stepping up to the counter, the man turned to him as he was cleaning a glass and asked, "Water again, One Eye?" The male nodded and pulled out the coins for the man as he got the glass and added in a pitcher of water. After paying, Rei turned and went to a corner as he mulled over the nickname that he had as he swirled around his cool water. "One Eye..." None of them really knew what this eye was wrapped up for. His remaining gray eye turned to who was around as he contemplated what they really knew about him- scant little, other then he acted with a sense of justice and acted apart from the authorities when investigating or 'solving' a crime (which sometimes involved the use of his blade).

The real reason for the eye was simple, yet almost useless- it could see spirits. Strange that only one eye could, but it was the truth. He would release a sigh as he took a sip of the chilled water and looked around with his showing gray eye. He was wearing rumors that more and more spirits were around the world, but what they were doing, he didn't know. He would close his eye as he gave a light smile at the memory, it was two villages ago. He couldn't forget this, there was no way that he ever would. Thinking back to that day, he looked forward, towards the bar as he finished the first cup.

It was a rainy day like it had been today. He did have the wrappings around his arms and the bandages over his left eye- the bandages on his eye were there for his sword training. Rei was smiling as nothing bad was happening here, at first. It was a pleasant day, and nothing could seem to mess this up. He walked to an inn, small as it was, and got a room. He would watch the others there, who seemed out of energy, and that was understandable: after all, the rain drained a lot of people's spirit. Checking his sword, he would keep it with him as he went to his room and took the soaking cloak off and hung it to help it dry faster as he looked around the place to give him something to do for the night.

Rei couldn't find anything to do outside of the little places that the people had, which were mostly closed down because of the rain. He would heave a sigh and become frustrated at this- why did the rain always have to come at a time like this and ruin everything? Shaking his head, the human would walk to the door and open it to come face to face with an old man, who wore old tribal vests and furs, and seemed somewhat unneeded for coming to see Rei. He looked wet, but fine with it, but there was something on his mind, and Rei was right as the old man almost went down to his knees before Rei caught him as the old shamen begged, "Warrior! Thank the Temple of Light that you are here!"

It seemed that there was more to this town then Rei had thought, as the old man was led to his bed and spoke as Rei used the fire from the fire place (lit by the inn keeper) to make some tea, "It started just as small as it began. A little spirit here and there, maybe once a year. None of them were like the one that appeared last year. It slinked and stayed mostly hidden, only coming out the next month and ate the other spirit." At this point, he was starting to think the old man was crazy- and who wouldn't? Those not aware of the spirits were not aware of their danger.

Even unaware of this, Rei would let the old man go on- he figured that the people told this legend and it was at least something to do while he was waiting on the rain. The old man went on, saying, "This spirit has gobbled up any other spirits that come, but after seven months, they stopped appearing. And now once a month, this demon eats one of our children! Our ways to fight it are with magic, but not even our magic works against it." The sword wielder raised an eyebrow as the old man took a moment to wipe a tear from his face- was it a tear? He would nod his head as the man continued after wiping his tears, "We shamen of this village will assist you in any way we can, stranger- even if it means giving up our lives to save the children."

Rei would keep to himself as to what he thought about this whole situation, but would nod his head as he asked, "And when does this spirit come?" The man looked over at him in all seriousness, "Two hours." Rei would nod his head as he looked into the fire as the tea pot went off. Taking it off and pouring a cup, he would say, "Then I have one hour of reparation. Go gather who you will, and then you can have a younger man lead me to the spot." The old man nodded as he sipped on the tea while Rei finished his quickly. Though he didn't believe the old man, he would just see what would happen. In the mean time, he was going to switch the bandages and place them over his right eye, as he did periodically.

As the old man left, he pulled the bandages off and muttered, "It's been a while since I used this eye..." But there was something different about it, a different feel. Mostly while he was saving that girl, it seemed the act of taking her life was extreme, when they could just have wanted money. He placed a hand under his chin as he thought to what the old man had said, about the other demons being gobbled up. He wondered, with that feeling, this was almost the same. Shaking his head, the gray eyed warrior pulled the bandages off the rest of him, taking his shirt off and removing the arm bandages as he checked his fresh scars from that rescue. Some were pink, while others seemed like they might reopen. Releasing a sigh, he would place on fresh bandages onto his arms as he placed the bandages over his right eye as he said aloud, "I really hope this isn't a spirit..." Strange as it seemed, e felt better, more secure with this eye out. Placing his shirt back on, he checked his cloak, which he had moved to ear the fire. It was getting dry, though he had a feeling that it wouldn't matter.

He moved to the bed and sat there as he went into meditation, preparing his mind. One might say a swordsman was also a mediator, depending on his practice. Rei's style was a mix, as he never received any formal training. He pulled from various schools and sects that he had seen and used them as his own. Thinking little in the way of the demon, or much anything at all, he was unaware that this demon was targeting him tonight. The only human here who seemed to possess a means to kill him, since all the other spirits he'd eaten had him immune to these shamen's magics.

After the short time of mediation (it felt short to Rei) the young warrior got a few knocks on his door. It was a bit early, but he moved to the cloak and slipped that on first before moving to the door and pulled his sword behind his back- an old habbit, since his way of justice often led him to have enemies. Opening the door a bit before openng it fulling, the elderly man stood there, panting. He spoke with panic in his voice, "Stranger! The demon has attacked early!" Eye widening, he asked, "Where? Show me to him!" The old man nodded and turned, moving down the hall and into the streets. There, he could barely see a shape. It wasn't fully manifested, but the old man said, "That left eye of your's... you must have the ability to see spirits with it! Or at least it's developing." He seemed winded, so Rei said, "Rest, and I'll take care of this." Nodding, the old man nearly collapsed as Rei charged at the shape. It was like a lizard, but had three tails, large horns, and an extra arm. Its tongue currently held a child in it. The human raised the longsword and slashed the tongue with the child, surprising the demon as it gave a shrike of pain. It didn't know that he could see it!

Turning so that the child was behind him, Rei said, "Go! Run now." His tone was firm and serious. Narrowing his eye, he could see it easier now, through he moonlight. It's eyes now shone, orange and angry, pain-filled, and a light amount of fright. "So," Rei thought to himself as he prepared the blade, " He must be scared of me... but why? Is it really because he cannot be killed by spells?" He would dodge a strike from the sliced tongue of the beast, then jumped at it. Knowing it's reaction, he stabbed the sword to the side, catching it's hand with the blade cutting through into it's scale free palm. Another shrike sounded as the demon pulled it's arm back- with Rei hanging onto the blade. He waited until it stopped and then pulled the blade free and would leap onto it's arm, running up it.

It goes almost without saying that the demon howled with rage and attacked his own arm, though Rei knew something like this would happen. This demon was simple-minded when driven by fear. Moving the blade over his head, he struck at the hand of the beast first before rolling forward. He caught onto the arm and pulled himself up as he ran up the rest of the length, the demon howling in pain from the slashes on its palm. He arrived onto the back and started up as he thought, "This is a bit easy. This is too simple..." He moved to the eye and stabbed the eye, seemingly killing the beast as it thrashed and fell to the ground. Rei panted from slaying the beast before he stood up and moved out of the fallen demon. He looked around at the gathered people, who cheered. He smiled and thought, "Maybe... it was reality..."

Before leaving the village, he thanked the elder for telling him about the sight and refused any pay for helping them out. He would move away from the town with the banadges over his left eye again- he wanted to protect the eye, thought he would use it again if he heard of more demon activity. He was determined to uphold his belief of justice.

The memory went away as Rei went back to his room, a smile on his face.
