"Good Morning Adrian!" Professor Akiko Suzuhara said as her assistant entered the office. "How was last night?"

Adrian smirked as he closed the door behind him He was used to the professor's questioning ever since he became her hired help. He made his way to the desk and sat in the chair across from her.

"Actually I slept quite." Adrian said, frowning as he opened a book. "So what do you want me to go look into today?"

"Well there are tons of things I could use. Help with the western forest is always appreciated, if you'd be willing to go out there and do a bit of research on the shrines out there. I'd cover your travel expenses." she said, smiling as she took her glasses off.

"If you need me out there, fine. What have you found out about the puzzle box we found the other day?"

"Well I think I found it but I'm waiting on the carbon dating results. We're hoping that it's the one you think it is."

"Hard to imagine the spirit of a witch hiding deep in that thing."

"Well that's how legends are. All of them have at least one foot in reality, and one foot outside of it. Your grandmother knew that."

"Thanks, doc. If you need something just leave a message at my place. I should get going if I want to make it out there in time. I'll see you later."

"Just be careful out there. I don't want you to get in over your head. If you find anything call me immediately. I want to know if anything happens."

"Got it. Ask before I do anything. Does that include taking a piss?"

"Only if you're about to piss on an artifact of some kind. See you when you get back."

Adrian just smiled as he stood and headed for the door. Nobody could say the professor didn't have a sense of humor. And, at least to him, she was pretty easy to talk with. He made his way back to his apartment. He had to gather some things before heading for the western forest.

Adrian gathered his things, together, smirking as he moved about his apartment. He had a way to go to get to the zone that he was supposed to go do research in. Sighing he grabbed his history books and mythology books, throwing them in an old military issue duffle bag that had been passed down to him. He stuffed them in before he threw in his journal and notebook, followed by a sleeping bag, rolled up pup tent, and his audio recorder.

"Let's see. Tent, bag, work stuff. Good. That's it" he said.

He slipped the bag over his shoulder and strapped the Devil's Teardrop to the inside of his coat. He walked away, heading out to the parking garage. Climbing on his bike he kicked the engine on before he made his way out to the forest.

"Let's see.. I have five of these shrines to take care of." he muttered as he came to a stop.

Taking a map out of his pocket he marked one off, four other circles going deeper into the forest with every movement. He was on the outer most edge of the forest but would be venturing deeper before the day was through. Sighing he ran a hand through his hair before he put his bag down and dug out his books and notebook. He looked the shrine over, writing in his notebook the whole time, describing it before breaking out his text books and looking through them. He looked through them and even went on to draw a five minute sketch of this ancient shrine, this one appearing to be in poor condition but up kept none the less.

Adrian knocked lightly on Akiko Suzuhara's office, having returned from the forest. He had gone straight home to sleep and shower and to compile his notes. He had them all with him as he waited for the violet haired teacher to answer.

"Come in!" her soft voice called.

Adrian pushed the door open smirking when he saw her look of surprise. Something had told him she was expecting him to be gone for a while. He made his way to the chair across from her desk and sat down. He dropped the notebook on her desk.

"That's all you got?" the paranormal studies professor asked, quirking an eyebrow.

"Well that's what I have here. They're my notes compiled from all five of the shrines, and then cross referenced with the internet and text books I have. I even took my grandmother's journals out and looked for anything about the forest in them. Not much to say about them in there but it never hurts to try." he said, watching her.

"Really? You seem... different." the professor said.

"I was attacked out there." he said simply

"By what? What happened?"

He told his story about the demon he had encountered in the night after working on the last shrine. She listened intently very interested in his story as if her very life depended on it.

"Wow. Did it leave a scar under your shirt?" she asked.

"Yeah. The wound had sealed by the time I woke up but you can see the scar.." he said, lifting his shirt. "Three marks, all going inward toward the center here. Whatever it was it was smart. If it had been trying to kill me a few inches lower and to the right and it would have pierced my heart. This spot let it go deep, but didn't even nick a vital organ."

"That's amazing. You did great Adrian. Go ahead and take the day off. Unless you want to put in overtime. In which case just come see me and I'll authorize it." Akiko said, nodding lightly.

Adrian just smiled and shook his head as he left.
